Common Painting Defects that Can Ruin Your Home

Painting your house is one of the ways you can improve the aesthetics of your home. However, when painting your home, you may encounter some common defects. These defects may ruin the quality of your painting. The defect may arise as a result of poor quality paint, poor workmanship or poor materials used to paint. Here are some of the painting defects that can ruin your home.

Fungus Growth

When the surface of your walls is continually dirty or damp, the fungus can grow on the surface. Sometimes, the paint you are using may be containing an insufficient fungicide. This may cause fungi or grow on your walls after you have painted your house. To avoid this, you need to ensure that the paint you are using is made of enough algaecide or fungicide.

Bittiness

This mainly caused by using dirty brushes or painting on a dirty surface. The small particles on the brush or the dirty wall surface will project themselves out on the paint surface. You may end up with a rough surface after painting. You can avoid ending up with a bitty surface by ensuring that you use a clean brush. Also, clean the surface that you would like to paint before actually painting it.

Brush Marks

Cracking

You may have noticed some painted walls with paint cracking and coming off them. The cracks usually develop throughout the entire paint film. Sometimes the crack may even extend right down to your wall’s original surface. Cracking is usually caused by using poor quality paints or by using paint with very high viscosity. You need to use paint of lower viscosity to have a painted surface that will not crack or fade with time.

Flaking

Poor dispersion in paints makes them unable to hold up to the surface. The paint may get detached from the painted surface as a result.
