Saw this today and thought it was good.  Leary was definitely a highlight.  The dinner scene with him and Garfield, especially how it ended, was perfect.

I even shed a few tears during the crane scene.  I'm such a sap some times.

Saw this last night. I thought it was REALLY good but not quite excellent. Enjoyed it more than Raimi's trilogy (yes, even 2).

The first 30 minutes or so were perfect but the Lizard was just ok (the plan was predictable and the "villain monologue" scenes reminded me too much of Green Goblin). CGI was good, excellent at times like when Spidey is swinging or fighting (some poses looked so comic book-y that I giggled). Some scenes (like Spidey and the car thief or Peter dinning at Gwen's) were perfect, also, the suit didn't bother me as much as I thought it would.

Missed the "with great power..." speech and some more easter eggs would've been cool. Can't wait for the sequel.

PS I don't even wanna google how young Emma Stone is, I thought she was HOT as fuck but if she turns out to be too young then I'll feel like a perv  laugh

For now, bring on Batman.

Without spoiling her actual age for you  Grin, she's been playing a high school chick since Superbad in '07 (and maybe before that), so I'm sure she's of age.  Not sure how young "too young" is for you, though. laugh

According to IMDB, she'll be 24 this year.  Almost too old for Playboy.

The Amazing Spider-Man Webs Up $140 Million

by SuperHeroHype

July 08, 2012

The 4th of July has come and gone and Sony Pictures' The Amazing Spider-Man, starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Denis Leary, Sally Field and directed by Marc Webb ((500) Days of Summer), won its opening weekend, taking first place with $65 million in 4,318 theaters. It opened on Tuesday, July 3, with $35 million then dropped off on Wednesday and Thursday but then picked up steam on Friday and held up well over the weekend to score the fourth-highest Independence Day weekend opening behind Michael Bay's first and third "Transformers" movies and Spider-Man 2. It also scored the highest daily gross for the 4th of July on Wednesday.

The movie opened domestically on 307 IMAX screens where it grossed $14.3 million over the six days, a little over 10% of the domestic business.

Internationally, the movie expanded into 57 more territories after opening in Asia last weekend and added another $129.1 million to bring its international total to $201.6 million. Its total worldwide gross is currently $341.2 million.

I saw spiderman tonight and for me it was so so. I was not blown away honestly. I loved the SAM spidey films and this did not come close to what was already laid down. Glad to finally see lizard but thought the Conner's from the SAM films should have been used.

Some of the CGI was excellent but there are little things missed. like the great power speech and even smaller little things like the pings and sounds when spiderman jumps off fire escapes while running along the side of a building

I really wanted to like this film but for me it fell far from what we have already been shown. i know its a different view but i was not impressed.

Wife and I saw it last week.  We both agreed that we thought it was the best Spiderman film to date.  Yeah, there may have been little things here and there but that's with any adaptation.

This is the first time I thought they got the spirit of the comics right.  Spiderman was quippy and funny, something the Raimi films missed by miles.  "If someone told you this was a happy little tale..." Give me a break that was terrible.  I finally felt like I was seeing Spiderman on screen and not just some cheap knockoff first attempt (sorry I really hated those first 3)

Could someone who is familiar with the Hollywood machinery please explain to me why Spider-Man has to continually rip his mask off and show his face to everyone that will look at him? Tobey Maguire did it as well in all 3 of his movies, and now in this one...same thing. Why even wear a face mask to protect your identity, if you rip it off all the time? The way the write the removed mask into the script is clunky at best...it seems like some contractual obligation that is being worked into the film.

Is it an acting thing? "I can't effectively emote in a full face mask." (to which I invite people to watch V for Vendetta).

Is it an actor stipulation, we have to see the actor's face in the costume, in action, in order for them to get likeness royalties from merchandising?

Or is it some other actor egotism that has escaped me?

this is just what i am thinking so i really don't know but i would guess it is to get the emotion from the audience. yea you can dub over the seen but i think they think/thought in order for people to connect in the Sean's that required alot of dialog or emotional parts we need to see the face to see his reactions or the emotion of the Sean of his face,

Does that make since?

It's actually the Hollywood Execs. Sam Raimi said in an interview that the Sony big wigs made him do it. They were paying so much money to Tobey Maguire that they didn't want him covered up all the time.

That's bizarre...look at Darth Vader...an actor in a suit with a voice over from James Earle Jones. Why does Spiderman need to have Tobey Maguire's face in order to get their money's worth? Hell Maguire was in almost every other scene as Peter Parker...more than half or 2/3's of the movies.

No one ever said the Execs could emote with the common person....especially comic fans  Smiley

OK spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen this yet:

I was reading Death of the Staceys trade yesterday and got to wondering, they say that this will be a Trilogy, and maybe more down the line. You think you could be taking the Death of the Staceys/Death of Green Goblin and making it into a Trilogy of movies?
