They showed this before the trailers when I saw the film today. I thought it was pretty funny.

Is he actually saying that his death will be what makes the Avengers take the name to heart? Not all the other people who were killed? Just him?

I really did think that was weird. I though it was even weirder that it actually seems to have worked.

That was a bit of misstep. Really, it took his death for them to realize the stakes?! Um, no.

Yep. I prefer no Vision to one that is created by Stark. I don't need the android Human Torch connection, but I do need Pym and Ultron involved.
Pym working for Stark would work...and the Human Torch costume was seen at the expo in Cap...so this would be a good way to start this.

Fuck dude. I'm so sorry. I thought I was in the other thread. sincere apologies of I blew it for anyone. I don't know if a mod would feel like.editing stuff but since we have a separate spoiler discussion thread it would probably be good to relocate some of this stuff over there.

more thoughts on the toptic in the proper thread.

On my Free Comic Book Day travels, I would walk into stores and exclaim "Man, did that Avengers movie suck or what?" It got funny reactions, and not a single person seemed to believe for a second I wasn't pulling their leg.

The last thing that was this much buzz was Revenge Of The Sith, and haters ruined way too much of the fun. It's beautiful to have something like this that everyone is geeking out about. People I know who aren't at all geeky are over the moon with this thing. It's like the Thriller of movies.

The boys LOVED it, Giovanni literally sat in awe the entire movie didn't say a word at all, eyes WIDE open. The movie ends, we sit through all the credits, and Giovanni turns, looks at me and says

That was the greatest thing I have ever seen.

Then, he looks at the screen and screams at the top of his lungs

THAT WAS TOTALLY AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, that's just fantastic. i like that you share stuff about your kids, KP. I feel like a virtual uncle.

I do not want Stark to be the driver behind The Vision.  Introduce Hank creating Ultron and asking for help.  No problem.  Then bring on the Vision.

I think RDJ Stark would be freaked out by Vision. I think he would be the "It's not can we but should we" guy. And Cap would be completely opposed. "There's only one God, and he doesn't dress like that."

The term Life Model Decoy was used in the flick, so they could go that route.

They did! I forgot that.

One little thing that bothered me about this ...

When Coulson says it wouldn't have worked any other way, because they needed something to avenge.

Him?

Is he actually saying that his death will be what makes the Avengers take the name to heart? Not all the other people who were killed? Just him?

I really did think that was weird. I though it was even weirder that it actually seems to have worked.

Well, mainly Stark. Stark's been established as a guy who's self absorbed and something's really got to hit home in order to get him to pay attention. That got him to shut the fuck up for a minute, then he and Cap had their conversation on the matter. And not just Stark, but all of them had met him and liked him in some capacity.

See, this is kinda the difference between Marvel characters and DC characters. DC guys will say "The world needs to be saved! Let's all go save it together!" where Marvel guys are saying "What the fuck is your angle? Why should I trust you? In fact, why would I need you anyway, when I can kick ass all by myself? Kick rocks, bitch." It's no coincidence that the first Avengers story had the line about "There came a day.." These characters are not joiners. But they all liked this guy, none of them managed to save him, they have something to bond over, and if they have a common enemy, then go for it.

But thankfully, this Avengers was comprised of heroes and not the asshats who live in the Ultimateverse.

Yeah, rereading Ultimates as a man 10 years older, Ultimates comes off as way too snide and shitty for my liking. And the cute little meta celebrity mentions every other page have not aged well at all. Shannon Elizabeth and Freddie Prinze Jr, anyone?

They showed this before the trailers when I saw the film today. I thought it was pretty funny.

Gotta love the Alamo Drafthouse. Really difficult to explain the full scope of the Alamo experience; most people tend to gravitate to the strict no-talking policy, but they always have unique events. For example, they will be re-screening the following films this summer (celebrating their 30th anniversaries): Conan the Barbarian, Mad Max 2, Rocky III, Poltergeist, The Thing, Star Trek II and Tron. They are advertising it as a celebration of how 1982 was the greatest summer of movies ever (anybody think differently?). They always have clips and parodies screened before the trailers that have a relationship with the film. The Alamo is great and I recommend going if you ever visit Texas. As seen in Tarantino's Deathproof:

Hmm.  Someone should tell that to Green Arrow and Hawkman.  Wink

Actually, the first Avengers story didn't have that line.  The "And there came a day" prologue didn't appear until the 1970's.  It was issue 128, I believe, and it was written by Steve Englehart, not Stan Lee.  Stan was off doing the college lecture circuit at the time and wasn't writing much.

Well, you got me there. But there still did come a day! The principle of the matter already existed, and Stan did say that until Cap came back, he was hard pressed to come up with a reason these guys would get along at all.

I might be off on this one too, but wasn't the obtuse nature of Green Arrow and Hawkman character traits that came later in the day, like in the Bronze Age? Marvel guys were antisocial straight from Jump Street.

That's correct.

Correct again.  The subtle antagonism between Green Arrow and Hawkman didn't start until Justice League of America 100 in 1972, which was written by Len Wein.

you and I should have some kind of a game show or something where I just talk a bunch of shit and then you come on and explain what I got wrong, and the contestants try to decide if I was right or not in between.

Okay, now I'm sure this wasn't just my imagination, but here goes something.

I saw The Avengers in 3D with my wife and some friends. During the scene where Tony and Bruce are talking in the lab, they're on opposite sides of a computer monitor. The scene changes pov and you can see their faces reflected in the glass. I pointed out to my wife that Bruce's reflection was actually the hulk, while Tony's was normal. She looked and said "oh yeah, clever!"

Then I went and watched it again, but in 2D with a couple friends who hadn't seen it yet and just as the scene approached I said to a pal "watch Bruce's reflection in the glass"......and it was just Mark Ruffalo.

Was it just me?  confused

Giovanni woke up this morning and wanted to go see it again. He played till he passed out last night with his Avengers, when I picked him up off his floor he still had Cap and Hulk in his hands. He woke up early this morning and went straight back into it, I had to pry him away to get him to eat breakfast.

Since we took him and Shane to the 2D version yesterday,  I'll be taking him to the 3D IMAX version of it next weekend.
