I'm NOT getting my hopes up, but am curious to see what or IF they're going to show any new figures at Toyfair.

I heard some serious rumors that were quashed when it was announced that we weren't getting any more.
wonder if any of it holds weight, since I heard we might get a New Mutants/New X-Men Academy boxed set.
which would be aces. If it happens, I might actually buy into the 3 3/4" line as well, but the only thing holding me back is the fact that I don't wanna hafta endure six more years of figures they already did at 6", before we get to new characters who haven't been done yet.

I heard that it wasn't dead but instead of waves we would be getting 2-packs.

That's what I heard all along, but the figure choices weren't encouraging. When you see stuff like Reed and Ben in Dull Blue, Ronin Repaint, Ronin Repainted as Hand Ninja, SHIELD Agent, SHIELD Agent, SHIELD Agent ...
I
suppose
various heroes with alternate Skrull heads
could
be interesting ...

Well charecter selection has always been a 50/50 crap shoot with Hasblo and I'm honestly not expecting that to change. The rumor was that they would continue the line with 2 packs and possibly waves without BAF, but there hasn't been even a hint of news about anything new since SDCC. So there has been considerable doupt wiether the line would continue or not. At this point I'd be satisfied to see some of the prototypes they've shown make it into production along with 6" versions of the "new" charecters in the 3 3/4" line. Something along the lines of Aa FA Storm /Black Panther, Northstar/ Aurora, Valkyrie or classic Ms. Marvel would more than work for me.

The only reason they were stopping the BAFs was because they feel there aren't any must haves left. I disagree, but I'm not in charge of this line.
The two-packs haven't done much for me -- because of poor quality (Marvel Girl/Cable) or poor selection. I definitely want Iron Man, but neither Maria Hill nor Sharon Carter are great choices to pack with it -- Madame Masque, Jack of Hearts or a new Black Widow would have been better.
I'm hoping for some decent boxed sets. With the prototypes shown so far, they have the good beginnings for a G.S X-Men boxed set (Storm, Polaris, Thunderbird, classic Sunfire and Colossus) and Alpha Flight (the twins, Snowbird, Shaman and Puck, I guess).
An Avengers gift set would rock -- Ultron, Enchantress, Count Nefaria...
More Inhumans, Invaders, Defenders would all be swell in boxed sets. Plenty of viable character choices left!

I gotta say, Marvel and DC's more shit than not is kind of hurting my enthusiasm for DC and Marvel toys. There's like a synergistic aspect that works both ways. When the two are cooking, I find myself more excited by the toys, but now I'm not as much in a comic-booky place. Don't get me wrong, I'll still by figures of both sets of characters (partly because I know that will turn around in the future as some point), but I find myself thinking less about wishlists and shit like that, or I don't get bummed out when Legends sputters to standstill.

I believe Jesse. I think it's great news. There's still so many characters that Hasbro can do in the 6" scale. Inhumans, Alpha Flight, Masters of Evil, Thunderbolts ...

Jesse is the coolest mofo in the business. (Although ToyGuru is gaining fast). But I'll always dig Falcon for raising Lazarus from the dead, walking on the moon and putting a stake through the heart of the music industry, and pal Jagger with his release of Sgt Peppers. Oh and Marvel Legends were cool too. Jesse is tha man though.

I've been out of the "insider" loop for a year, but what I recall, is it's ALWAYS about dollars and cents with HASBLO. If they gave up on B-A-Figs, I'm sure financial was the biggest component. That's why they stopped doing paint-washes on the figs--it cost pennies-- but that adds up to a lot of dough, apparently.
Build-a-Fig was just fucking brilliant. I believe it started because Jesse wanted to make Galactus. But soon it became a way to bring fans third tier characters and not have every case be Spidey and Wolverine heavy. Mattel gets it and stole the winning concept as soon as they could.
Brewer, however, could have been doing them for the past 5 years. But he's a lazy sack.

Reading the DCnU is like trying to shit a brick. It's agonizing. While I'm one of the few people around here who thought there might be some actual merit in a relaunch, the execution has been just that, an execution.

IMO it's not that there aren't any decent canidates left to be considered for a BAF. It's that the overall q.c. and the articulation changes Hasblo has made to the figures aren't strong enough to support them. I also don't think we'll see any more of the multi figure box sets like we did with Toybiz because they're just not cost effective anymore. Personally i don't want to pay $45 for a 4 figure box set that will more than likely include a reissue or 2 of a figure I already have. It's bad enough paying $20.00 + for a 2 pack that used to cost $15.
