When the SDCC 08 exclusive toys were announced last year, I practically reached through my computer monitor and grabbed the MINI MATES INVADERS 4 pack.  Prior to that, I was the owner of a lone Mini- Captain America.  Now I could get the whole team in one fell swoop.

Or could I?  There were, after all, five Invaders.

I grabbed whatever 2-pack of MINI MATES at TARGET, stripped off the extra gear, and tossed it into the primer spray booth.  I sculpted flame from putty, trying to match the same body regions that the HUMAN TORCH had flame, just less.  I used a nice Italian Red and then detailed orange and chrome yellow on the edges of the flame.

The Invaders set was very nice- I removed the bracelets from Namor, which were Silver Age additions, and the ammo/ utility belts that Cap and Bucky were given.  Both Cap and Bucky were given shoulder straps to hold a shield, so I removed Bucky's.  Finally, I selected the Golden Age shield- with the blue stripe- for Cap.  Torch came with a translucent flame stand, which I may have to duplicate for Toro at some point.

The set comes with three shields and two masks for Cap.  Luckily my old Cap Mini was perfect for creating a FA figure.  The original Cap figure has less detailed boots and body.  I used the FA "cap" mask and three-edged shield.  It worked out great!

Did they ever make a Red Skull Mini?

Nice work Doc, I was just looking at my set last night thinking... "I need a Toro and a UJ and a Spitfire." Yours looks great, I love how easy these things are to change around and remove stuff.

Also, there is a Red Skull minimate coming in the next series with a Bucky Cap.

That's so funny, because I have held off kustomizing these things as I think it would be hard to recreate all the black line work!
I have a Ghost Rider left over that would make a brilliant Blazing Skull- perhaps this the is line to make the Liberty Legion and The Twelve in?

I bought c3 and DC Minimates as a precursor to lego for my son when he was 5 and almost instantly regretted it- he loved taking them apart.  I have re-engineered the Hawkman/ Hawkgirl wings twice.  Now that he is a little older, he doesn't loose the parts but instead makes mish-mash characters dubbed The Freaky Patrol.  He is getting curious about an Avengers set and I was contemplating an over-sized Giant-Man figure.

Also, there is a Red Skull minimate coming in the next series with a Bucky Cap.

Holy shit-- I have to get those!!!  When do they come out?

=sigh= Addiction is funny.

Not sure when they're being released, but here's a link to some pics.

The Skull/Captain Bucky 2-pax is a must-have! Captain America

He is getting curious about an Avengers set and I was contemplating an over-sized Giant-Man figure.

I'm into as many classic Avengers as I can get for this line. I'm thinking about using the old Giant Man from the 5 inch line, I think it came in the Avengers box set. I know it's not a minimate but eh, I'm not as strict with this line as I am with others. I ordered the FA Avengers set for the Wasp and Ant-Man figures and I might get the Secret Invasion set for the Beast.

I'd love to see you do the Liberty Legion in a minimate style, I gotta think that would be a fantastic looking set all grouped together. I'm also hoping they eventually do a Spitfire/Union Jack set, it's a no brainer.

Interesting news on that jumpsuit Skull you pointed out, I hadn't seen that before and that's the version i'd really like. Of course I'll still order the Bucky Cap set.

These things are great and the price point make them easy to buy without suffering buyers remorse. Even when I'm getting figures I don't need it doesn't bother me due to the price. I wouldn't be able to buy like this with the 6 inch lines and such, my conscience would kill me.
