Anyone got this?
A nice one-shot Memorial Day story featuring Grundy and GL. No great shakes but a gap filler ready for Robinson's tenure to begin.
Vito Delsante was the writer and let me tell you, this guy CANNOT write Lois. It was cliche'd as fuck.
She appears in 7 panels over two pages and has this to say :-
Page 1 -
"But Chief..."
"Lex Luthor's new Queenland Park Factory...Possible dumpings of CFC's in the North River"
Page 2 - (and this what really cheesed me off)
"Relax Smallville...Maybe you'll find a three eyed fish in Hobs River"
"It sells papers Smallville,. Hey Laura do ya have my ticket?"
"Okay Smallville. See you in a few days. Try not to break anything whilst I'm away"#
"That didn't take long. Good going Smallville"
I mean is it just a fucking stretch of the imagination that maybe she wouldn't say Smaville EVERY SINGLE FUCKING TIME she addresses Clark?
Bad, bad, bad.
Rest of the issue's not too bad and slots nicely into the Man of Steel between issues 4 and 5 and also adds a nice little touch.

I've often thought that. She's fucking MARRIED to him. Who the fuck calls their spouse a (condescending)nickname everytime they address them? Or at all? That's one thing that grates on me and needs to go.

Point taken. They still do it, though, don't they?

I loved it. "Flashback" story, "first" meeting of Alan Scott & Supes, and Gruindy. Plus the art was pretty darned good too. I really enjoyed it immensely. Which is all too rare nowadays (although the latest Jonah Hex kicked ass - too bad probably nobody reads that)...

Yeah - sounds like the writer spent too much time watching the cartoon and even the current Smallville series - where Lois constantly uses the nickname "Smallville". But even in those - she does mix in the occasional "Clark" or "Farm-Boy" and so on. So - I'd have to agree with you. I think I was more interested and jazzed about Grundy/Alan Scott - and glossed over the rest.

Said my piece on this issue in the Quick Fix, but yeah, I thought it was a nifty little issue. I guess Lois was a bit of a snark-ass in this issue, but as it was just a one-off (and a flashback at that), it didn't feel too excessive. I wish we'd see more books have good little one-offs like this.
