Rod, Have you ever thought about starting a bootlegging factory in China? I for one would gladly subscribe.

Hee, I wish I could!
With Mattel slowing down production to basically a figure a month, I just don't think Mattel is gonna get to a lot of obscurities now. I'm pretty confident that I won't have to do Metal Men and Doom Patrol, but I think there's still lots of room for the customizer.
Unless they surprise us with a boxed set, the SSOV ain't likely to happen as a whole. Shining Knight is a probable because he's a great visual and seems to have a high fan-demand; Speedy and SSK have other affiliations that make them likely down the road; Vigilante, SA Green Arrow aren't impossible, but I think Crimson Avenger (never mind Wing) and Stripesy are especially extremely unlikely now that they can't be buried in waves.
Can you imagine how well July 2013's sight-unseen offering, of a big orange-haired doofus in a red and white barber-pole shirt, would go over with the general sub-buying populace, as they've been revealed, as a whole? Yeah, exactly.

In that case how about if I just deputize you to make three of each custom. One for you, one for me and one we'll raffle off here to pay for the whole enterprise. I'll be your Julius Schwartz.

Those are great Rod. Love the arm swap on Ted. Those wrapped forearmsbug the hell out of me. I really like the motorcycle you have him with. But it needs the cathead windshield and the comic paintjob.

That's a Marvel Legends cycle-- from Wolverine, I think.
I'll eventually go with a proper 1:12 cycle as Hype has suggested. He seems to know what he's talking about, so I'll take his recommendation.

So, remember back when I started a thing in early 2010 called "Mattel, I Dare Ya", where I challenged Mattel to make 2-packs using one simple repaint and a second figure that used mostly pre-existing parts?
The ever-talented (and seemingly mostly-disappeared) Coffee Joe made a great banner for me:
The first was a gold Dr. Fate vs. Wotan:
http://www.criticalmess.net/index.php?page=410
Anyway, I was going to follow it up with Bronze Age Parasite vs. Supes, with a repaint into light-blue Superman. Finished Parasite at the same time as Wotan in February.
Then, got busy with other things, and before I know it, I'm in Singapore in October 2010, stumbling onto a nice Carolina blue Superman.
Perfect,
I think!
Now I don't have to make one.
Then what does Mattel do? They put out a Parasite vs Superman 2-pack, strict re-issues of the MA versions.
Kinda kills my challenge, y'know?
So, without further ado, here's something that's been sitting on my shelf for a year-and-a half, waiting to be seen by Messy eyes:
As the format was using pre-made parts, our little SA/BA Parasite uses Deadman's head and one of his hands for touchin'. I actually think it works better for him than Boston Brand.
This is actually my second attempt at the character, who was one of my first Supes villains I read as a kid, so he is probably more important in my mind than to others. Made a DCD version as well (that one can find in the early pages of this thread).
But that's not all! He comes with an accessory: his Power-Prism, that he received in Superman #304, and then came back to pester Supes with, in issues #319-322
So, finally the match-up I wanted to give a long time ago:
Well...
Mattel, I STILL Dare Ya!

Great job. That's the Parasite I want to. With a green variant.

Parasite looks great. I assume the color in the JLGL cover is actually incorrect, and inside the issue the stripes down his chest (which I admittedly don't even recall) match the color you chose.
That Singapore Superman though...looks like someone just mashed his face in.

Looks awesome RK. That's what Parasite is supposed to look like. Hate the MA version.

Yep, that Singapore Supes seemingly had a bit of a forceps squeeze popping out of Lara. I really should just do a quickie head transplant.
Both times I've done Parasite, I've wondered what the hell those white strips down his front are. The purple is his skin, so it's not a zipper or Velcro.
And yeah, they're supposed to be white. Not the best colour representation there, you're right.
As for the purple, the shade seems a little arbitrary in the books; mine's definitely erring on the dark side.

Just found your stuff today! Wow! I used to list
Ultra the Multi-Alien
on my wish lists of obscure characters I figured DC would never do. Awesome job on him!
I've probably spent more time perusing your thread today than my wife would want me to (you're spending too much time on the computer!!!!). Wish I had found it sooner, but better late than never!!!!!
