Any interest in doing a book of the month kind of thing? We could have a build up with voting for the book or even run and then those who want can read it, talk about it, and we can sum it with an article on the front page from some of our talented writers. It's an admittedly rough outline of the general idea so anyone with input, speak up. Could be fun though and a way to revisit or discover new material.

EDIT: RULES

Name one story you would like us to read and discuss as a group. If it's a trade, we'll need issue numbers as we'll do what we can to make it easily available for everyone.

We've only got 11 days till the new year so we'll do a flurry round of initial recommendations for three days ending the 23rd. We'll chose a list of five from nominations and vote for the final choice.

if you are interested in being a part of the writing process please PM me. We have so many funny people with varied perspectives. I'd love to have a great rotation of Mess talent on this thing. Wouldn't it be great to read Jersey's take on a golden age gem? Or Mike's lambasting of a nU turdfest? Pr Scot's analytical breakdown of some silver age silliness? Please step up and we'll break it down.

I think we'll have blind reaction pieces that will be very brief and independent of one another and then a round table of some sort. (Would welcome advise on how to facilitate the collaborative part) Then we'll top it off with a good old fashion Mess thread.

All recommendations welcome. Looking forward to this!

EDIT 2: "Book of the month club" sounds like we're going to be reading 50 shades of gray after months of using a book club as an excuse to get together and bitch about our spouses/partners and eat uppity snacks. Let's also get some nominations for a name for the feature.

Yeah, or a good run that can be made easily available but might not have been collected.

Could be fun, but we would need to vote on the books. And we would need to have a group of at least four readers. Maybe not the same group each month, but at least four guys (and gals) dedicated to a monthly Roundtable to discuss that month's selection.

Great. I'll change the title and we'll start taking suggestions.

That's a lot of issues. Any particular run or are you nominating the whole series? I think the first trade covers the first nine issues.

For my first nomination I am voting for

Superman/Shazam! First Thunder - This was a fantastic story about Captain Marvel and Superman meeting and more importantly hit a pitch perfect balance of putting Billy in a more modern world while maintaining what makes the character so special. As the story closed I found myself with a tear in my eye and when I shared the story with my wife she responded "Wow, that actually gives me goose bumps!" and showed me her arm for proof.

I'm going to buck the trend a little here and recommend the original Milestone run of Static, back when he was a kid trying to deal with real issues and become a super-hero at the same time.  The storytelling was pretty good back when it was basics.

Okay, if you want something a little easier to digest, how about the first Hellblazer trade?

Hype, I may check gnat out regardless of whether it gets any votes. I have wanted to see his source material for a long time.

Blis, it's just nominations so either is fine. Both would be amazing.
