Who would've thought we'd see a Vertigo John Constantine in the DC Infinite Earths sub?

For many years, Vertigo characters were off limits to DC proper, let alone a toy line based on such.

Now, it seems the sky's the limit..and when it comes to DC/Vertigo properties, which is the biggest that springs to mind?

First published in 1989, there's no doubt that this series was firmly embedded in the Nineties.

Following on from adult orientated titles such as Alan Moore's superb Swamp Thing run and it's spin off comic Constantine..this series pretty much built the Vertigo imprint.

I'm going to assume that everybody is familiar with this comic, writer Neil Gaiman deftly wielded a heady mix of influences from classic fairy tales to modern fables and in the process created one of the most revered runs in comics history.

But..

I know that for those who love the Super-hero set, Sandman figures taking up valuable sub slots, probably won't hold much appeal, a not unfair viewpoint.

This year though..Mattel solved that problem for us.

Once the untouchable ideal, DC Comics made it clear this year that nothing is impossible.

Eschewing series creator Alan Moore, DC released the "Before Watchmen" project.

Taking these seminal characters, DC have issued a series of prequels written by big name creators and trading on this much loved series.

Mattel, sensibly, have jumped on in and finally given fans the chance to own much coveted "Comic accurate" figures.

So if Mattel are chasing this Golden Goose, why can't they do it again?

The fanbase is there, the figures are achievable and there are plenty of characters to choose to fill the optimum year of subscription.

Dream, Death, Desire, Despair, Destiny, Delirium [Redacted for those who've yet to experience this book] and latecomer Daniel..

The Corinthian, Lucifer, Brute and Globb..Hell, sneak in a Kirby Sandman.

So what do you think?

Would you sign up for this, secure in the knowledge that sister line DCIE is untouched?

We can dare to Dream right?

Maybe.  I passed when DCD did them.  I loved the book at the time, but I think gothy emo twits may have spoiled it for me.

Oh.

I thought this was the Dream Girl thread.

The Sandman series was great, but when it comes to figure, I only want 70s Sandman and the Golden Age Rex Tyler in spandex (with boy toy Speedy).

I just can't get THAT excited about the DREAMING.  Amazing comics, with occasional crossovers from Sandman or Hector Hall/Silver Scarab and Fury and whatnot... But there's just too many Goth emos floating around.  I think it's literally an aesthetic/taste thing for me-- too many pale vampire wannabes in black.

Swamp Thing meanwhile, with the Floronic Man, and Arcane, and the Patchwork Man, and crossovers by DC's magic characters and whatnot, just seemed a much more imaginative and colorful and toyetic place to mine for toys (although I know Constantine is just a guy in a trench coat).

It's one of those really rare instances where I loved the comic but don't particularly want a figure.  CHASE is kind of like that for me.  I don't particularly want a figure of her, but I loved her book.

I would of course buy the Dreaming assuming they were in scale... But because I'm a DC completist, not because I think they make cool superhero toys that I want on a shelf.

I would beat you all to death with a Cyclotron figure for a full set of nicely sculpted, 62 Sandman figures.

And all those Goths and Emo's can fuck off.

They're completely missing the point of the book.

Just because Dream was morose, that makes it emo?

Still one of my favourite stories ever, up there with Clive Barker's Galilee for introducing a generational based fantasy epic.

No, because he and his sister look like Edward Scissorhands wannabes, THAT makes it emo.

Yeah, but Swamp Thing is a big fucking tree and all his stories were about protecting the Green.

Bet that makes you a pinko, environmentalist, vegan pain in the arse.

As I said, fuck those emo wankers, they need to stop cutting themselves and listening to My Chemical Romance, get a blowjob then a haircut and grow the fuck up.

Maybe then they could appreciate Sandman for what it actually is.

Bunch of make up wearing, Daddy doesn't understand me, even though he bought me a car cunts.

I think our wires are crossed here-- I'm purely talking about the LOOK of some of the SANDMAN characters, I'm not saying he IS an emo.

nu 52 Superman is much more of an emo than Morpheus will ever be.
