That was...not at all how things seemed to be getting set up.

Switcheroo from where you thought the killings would happen.

I actually tossed the book down when I read it, same feeling I had from when they killed Lori and the baby, not real happy about it.

It's very very violent.

I'm surprised that this situation Rick and co find themselves hadn't occurred pior to now.

I'm more surprised I still read this.

I actually chucked my TPB across the room while muttering "fuuuuuuuck" when that happened to Lori and the baby; almost put me off the series for good. It wasn't because it was bad or illogical, it was just so... brutal. It was a kick in the gut, but a kick in the gut I respected.

I'm pretty far out of comics in general these days, so I'm way behind on Walking Dead. I didn't think a spoiler would matter much to me. Due credit to Kirkman that it does, because just hearing about what happened to a supporting character in a series I used to read makes me sad.

I think sometimes those moments are just about shock. I think shock is am important part of this kind of horror story. It's shock built on emotional investment in characters rather than just body horror, though. Dale's death was shocking without being terribly gruesome just because it was good ol' Dale, y'know? When Kirkman shocks me, I respect it.

By the way, I'ma bow out of this thread. I'm spoiled on the what, but not yet on the how, and now I'm keen to catch up.

W#hat's refreshing is how the shock happens without 6 months of hype.

"Four more issues until the final fate of Glen is revealed!!"

They come out of nowhere and are more powerful for it.

Just not sure how much I will enjoy the book from this point forward, considering most of my favorites are dead, at that point there is no real reason for me personally to read anymore. I'll finish the arc more than likely, but it may be the end of the road for me.

I just read #100. My initial reaction? "Oh."

It just seemed like the same thing again, on a larger scale. New boss level. But THIS guy will outGovernor the Governor. We got the prerequisite sacrifice...and it didn't bother me as much as I thought it would. I'm really kind of indifferent right now. I didn't want it to happen but I suppose if you want to build up the new heavy...well you just can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs. I just happen to be getting tired of eating omelettes.

Rinse, repeat, new boss level...pretty much sums it up.

You know, if the TV show hadn't happened, I doubt I would care so much. But now I see Yuen when I see Glen, and it really Irks me all the more.

I didn't think about it before you said that, but you know what I agree with you, that might have allot to do with it. That and of all the characters Glenn and Maggie are the ones I liked the most and rooted for the most. I wanted them to make it, I enjoyed reading their story and now their story isn't being told anymore, I guess that may be why I don't know if I want to read past this arc anymore.

That group of the old crew is getting PRETTY damn small now isn't it? Rick, Carl, Andrea, Sofia. And Maggie and Michonne who came later. Kirkman said something about creating Jesus in response to all the fan favorites coming from the beginning of the series. As if Jesus is his attempt to build the cast back up.

Out of the new cast I like Abraham alot. I'm not up to date though (couple issues behind), so he could already be dead. (and just saw he is. lol.)

So Andrea and Maggie are the only characters I still like.

lol. I just don't mind spoilers.

Just caught up though. And Razz. I think part of why it bothers alot of us so much is that we're dads. We all know what it feels like to find out that news. And how alot of your wants simply boil down to making it to that day to see your kid. Just surviving to see him/her. (not that that stops.) To have Glenn receive that news and bit of hope in the same issue they killed him? It could be considered a cheap shot. And not one I particularly like.

Alot of the drive of this series is the hope that one day things will get better for these characters. And as a writer that means you've gotta cut them some slack here and there too. It's getting to the point unless Kirkman's going to make some brutal final point about the cost of survival, that there isn't going to be much to be thankful about once this comic is all over.

And let's face it. The way in which he was killed was unnecessarily graphic. Even for Walking Dead. What was it? 5 panels of Glenn's head caving in to different degrees?

What bothers me the most about the whole thing though isn't Glenn's death necessarily, but the regression in character growth. After all the shit that's gone down, Rick is still a cowboy? Who here didn't see trouble when he sent one guy back with the whole "Tell Negan not to come 'round these parts no more. There's a new sheriff here" schtick. The next shot should've been Andrea putting a bullet through that guy's head and asking Rick if he's a fucking idiot? I mean you warn a bunch of Mad Max rejects you're coming? Whatever.

If the characters don't learn anything from their experiences, Dave is right.

Rinse, repeat, new boss level...
