Check out this quote from Alonso, found at Entertainment Weekly:

“I feel that it’s a much more humane approach for retailers and fans to tell them: ‘Look. In the months of October through February, every week you can go into a comic book store and find a few new jumping-on points for the Marvel Universe, a place you’re going to like visiting. Or revisiting.”

The problem is, all these fucking ideas to draw in new readers....DON'T! Now all they're doing is alienating what existing readers they DO HAVE!  Angry

Avengers made eleventy hundred bazillion dollars and we'll see fuck all increase in sales of the comics.

Comics: Nine Marvel Titles Ending in October

by SuperHeroHype

July 10, 2012

If you're keeping track of the Marvel NOW! initiative it has now claimed it's first victims. The Marvel soliciations for October have arrived via CBR and nine titles are coming to a close as Marvel NOW! gears up to start.

The series that are ending include Fantastic Four, FF, Captain America, Invincible Iron Man, Mighty Thor, Incredible Hulk, New Mutants, Uncanny X-Men and X-Men Legacy.

No word yet on when some of these titles will be coming back or if they're coming back at all. So far the only series that is confirmed to be a part of Marvel NOW! that is on the solicits is Rick Remender's Uncanny Avengers, but expect more to be announced soon.

You can take a look at the comics we want to see Marvel do here and the comics we DON'T want to see here.

Gimmicks.

Apparently, that's all the creative geniuses of this era can come up with to sell comics. Good luck to them. Looks like another great juming off point.

Yeah, I'm pretty tired of series re-starting, going for 10-20 issues and then re-starting again. Looks like I'll be losing Fantastic Four and Captain America. Le sigh.

I love how Cap, Thor, Hulk, Unc X-Men barely got underway as it was. Some of them were barely even in double figures.

Joe Cocksada I despise you.

Well, with Cap were talking about the end of - what seven years?- Brubaker.  Its ended shaky.  Really improved with the new Scourge, but WINTER SOLDIER is so much more of hat he wants to write.

He ends and the NOW takes over.

Great time to end a collection.

Bru's getting bounced off Cap?

Oh, wow.

BUT! I quit buying it a long time ago, and when I checked back in for the Davis art, it felt...weird. So sure, reboot that shit. Winter Soldier is still good.

As he tells it, it's his own choice. Wants to work on creator-owned stuff, and some movie/tv script stuff.

I can tell that's a good interview just by skimming it, I'll need to jump in full scale later.

8 years on any one book is enough, I think. You can judge that entire run as before and after they brought Cap back from the dead. It was never the same after that, it fucked the suspension of disbelief for the tone they had carefully created. The only way to read the stories in between Cap's return and the end of that version of the book was to just put out of your mind that he had died and come back. Did he die and come back because of editorial shit? Maybe. He says he did exactly what he wanted the whole run, though. I don't think he would bullshit about that.

Winter Soldier works, and it works very well. It's back to what made his Cap work so great. It's off on it's own tangent, I don't think it's too likely that it's gonna get sucked into any crossovers. Long may it reign.

AV Club is having a comics week. It's been good. Here's Mark Waid, talking about a number of things, including the Marvel book that is now my #1 with a bullet (sense):

Daredevil.

Yes.

So another series for Hawkeye debuted this week. This time, it's without MBird, but I believe the female Hawkeye from Young Avengers -- who is basically a socialite who took archery in college -- will be involved.

Fraction and Aja are the creators. I'm not a fan of Fraction, but together, both did some good work on Iron Fist -- though Brubaker got the show running.

I would probalby have sampled this, but I just can't put up with that new generic/Ultimates/movie Hawkeye uniform. Just too utilitarian. I really don't mind if they retire the old Wolverine type mask and accoutrements, but how about something with a little pizzazz?

I thought the Aja art on Hawkeye was really average.
There won't be any Mockingbird because he's shagging Spider-Woman now.

Picked up Captain Marvel #1 and it was very  so-so
The painted art was distracting.

I woulda picked up CM, but didn't see it at the shop. Probably had low orders -- if any, and I didn't put in a special request. I know the Ms. Marvel outfit is a bit sexist, but it's a good look -- and the new outfit just cries "Miraclewoman."

I did pick up her appearances in Avenging Spider-Man, but I'm just not sold on this change.
