I scored a couple of trades compiling the first few issues of the Nexus series at First from the early 80's. Always thought Nexus was neat, had stuff here and there over the years, but like most of us I've always been wired into Marvel and DC. The art is beautiful, but the stories are also great. They were light years ahead of most of what the Big 2 were doing at the time. The style of storytelling and warts and all nature of the characters reminds me a lot of the Davis/Moore/Delano Captain Britain from around the same time, and that's a glowing recommendation from me.

Mike Baron is one of my favourite bat-shit crazy writers (under-appreciated probably applies), though I've always been on the periphery with Nexus, only really being exposed to him through cross-overs and guest appearances with Badger.

Dark Horse is publishing a 416-page Nexus Omnibus, due December this year. I'm all over it.

Badger turns up in one of the Nexus trades, and he's whacked out and hilarious. I knew of him through osmosis, but I don't think I'd ever had a comic with him in it. It was super fun.

I read the recent comeback, but it was later than a 90's Image book.  The art was spectacular!  The story was thinly-veiled right wing propaganda.

There is also a Nexus story running in Dark Horse Presents at the moment.

I wouldn't mind getting those Nexus Trades. Never really collected the series proper, but I did buy a 3-part mini-series called Next Nexus is which three daughters of a character Nexus had killed -- inherited the Nexus power.

Indys were a lot of fun in those days. I don't know if Image is responsible for their decline or something else.

I would love to blame Image, but I don't think we can. The indie scene has always been tough. If you want to blame someone, blame Diamond. They've got a monopoly.

That's really disappointing. I hate politics in superhero comics, left or right. Jeff Smith thoroughly ruined his Captain Marvel book with it. And he spent years on it, I couldn't believe it. It's like making a perfect lasagna and then dropping a turd right in the center of it.

Check out Image now.  If anything they're keeping creator-owned/indy alive.
