Coincidentally, I was just thinking about starting a thread regarding FAIREST.  I saw this promoted in the back of a DC Comics a few months ago -- and noted the Adam Hughes cover. Then, a few weeks ago, I spotted Fairest #3 at the LCS and picked it up. Really beautiful cover with a snow queen or something (couldn't make out who she was supposed to be in the comic). Oh, Phil Jimenez is doing interiors -- so that was part of the draw (no pun intended) as well. The issue featured the first part of a retelling of Sleeping Beauty. Any way, it's been ages since I collected a Vertigo comic, but I've decided to stick with this -- and Hughes's covers are the main reason.

I dropped Batgirl after his last cover. Only collected the Zatanna issues where he did the cover. But I never once picked up any of his Catwoman covers, because I hate the Brubaker version of Catwoman. Just too utilitariain for my tastes -- all substance, no style.  Grin

Loved it!  Thumb's Up

Hughes covers always catch my eye and his stuff is one of the very few I'd love to get a sketch from.  I wonder what his Dawnstar would be like?

If I would have known, I would have come up with some Maze Agency questions for you. I so love that book.

Great stuff! A cool guy too.

Shame many of us have missed the boat on getting some of his art. I got a quick sketch in the back of my Hughes art book at SDCC last year, but when he does do commission pieces they go for $3-4,000 now.

Thanks for doing this, Gill. Very nice of both of you. Adam did a sketch for my son a few years ago--of Superman! Adam Hughes drawing a guy! Gah!

This guy made Zatanna mesmerizing for me on the covers he did. I just loved looking at the covers. Not because it was some hot chick (drawings just don't trip my trigger), but because there was something powerful and magical (pun intended) in the way they were done.

Last I'd heard he was auctioning off sketches at cons. Sad to see he's just stopped but it's cool for an artist to get to see how appreciated he is in his time.

As much as I love his work, I did think that Mary Jane statue was a wee bit too sexist. And the Batgirl statue with her looking like a confused twit was a bad choice. But everyone makes mistakes.

Thanks guys!, glad you liked it.  Smiley

Awesome interview!  Good girl art is underrated.

It's very hard to do well, is the problem.

As much as I love his work, I did think that Mary Jane statue was a wee bit too sexist. And the Batgirl statue with her looking like a confused twit was a bad choice. But everyone makes mistakes.

Yeah... I'm hearing you.

The Batgirl more so, as I have some kinda investment with her.

I wasn't going to say this to him; but as much as I think he can do good work, like when he gets a characters face right with expression etc...

Which he then brings to life with his technique of digital colouring.

He goes wrong a fair bit too...

like with the Batgirl. He says in the interview he cares for what the character is like, he wants to know their favourite colour is etc.

Batgirl would kick seven tons of shit out the person who'd make her look like a dozy bird.... laugh

His work doesn't offend me as I wouldn't say he is being gratuitous and the style all round is pleasing on the eye.

But as for female superheroes reps, he's got a way to go. Grin

Obviously she's not reading her current series then.
