Okay, so my card number got fucking hacked AGAIN.

Some little hipster bitch tried to purchase over $1400 of clothing online using my card!  Places like Akira Chicago, AmericanApparel.com, and the like.  GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

Now the interminable wait to get the new card, and the inconvenience of 'conveniently dropping in to your local bank, showing them your ID, and getting cash.'  RIGHT before we drive out of town in the morning before the bank opens.  At least I already got cash.  Oy.

Oh, also, while trying to sign on to my account online to look at the activity, it doesn't even recognize my account.  AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

It is times like this that I truly question the ethics of my side business of selling credit card information.

But seriously, AGAIN?

Do you know how they keep getting it?

I am paranoid at ATMs and pay at the pump swipes. If there is anything that seems shady, I don't risk it.

Mine got hacked on Monday.  Someone bought $120 worth of baby products to ship to an address in Maryland.  Fortunately, the vendor was suspicious enough to give me a call to confirm.  Got my number from public records. Cancelled my card right away of course....

Seriously, amazon, Mattel, the gym, and paypal have the number.  That's it.  Someone could have hacked any of them. 

I mean, the bank is good and is covering ALL of it, and the stuff that is 'processing' will likely be declined when the stores open tomorrow, but it's still a pain in the ass.

Also, I like the 'Scarlet Letter' treatment.  The person has to have the words Identity Thief tattooed on their Goddamned forehead.  Seriously though, there should be a giant data base so that when these fuckers try to get a job, they get flagged.

Some cards offer protection that they don't go out of their way to tell you about but is readily available if you look. For example, they may offer temporary or dedicated account numbers to you. You specify which merchant can use that number and set an expiration date and limit.

Unfortunately that doesn't help when you pay at the pump getting gasoline and that's a huge problem at the moment. Thieves can get your info by inserting a device into the card reader at the pump -- nothing will look different because it's inside. The device can be retrieved later or the stolen numbers can just be transmitted wirelessly apparently. It's a huge problem in L.A. at the moment.
