Margot Kidder, Sarah Douglas and Susannah York were a terrific triptych of Super-Ladies, all very nice indeed. Susannah York even told Little Man not to be scared of a Dalek because after all, she was Superman's mummy. Thumb's Up

Adam West was cool as a cucumber and dropped Gill a sly wink. (But how could I complain, really? It's BATMAN!)

I'm sure we've met other people at cons* but I'll need reminding!

*There's been some classic Brit-TV dudes like two-thirds of comedy trio The Goodies, who were both very nice too.

Oh, and bookstore signings?:

Brit Comedy legend Spike Milligan - very nice, but nearly ninety. Robbie Coltrane - reasonable guy, and

Terry Gilliam - well into talking Watchmen, exactly how you'd imagine him and Michael Palin, possibly the nicest chap on the face of the planet.

Super Cool:

Jack Kirby - I was young, at my first convention.  I had of course heard of Kirby, but had not yet gotten a chance to check out any of his work.  I edged somewhat close to his booth (in an awkward teenage way) and tried to see what his stuff was like while not bothering him.  He was having none of that though, and immediately introduced himself in a very warm, welcoming manner.  He seemed to emanate qualities like decency and kindness and genuineness.  His wife Roz was there too, and she seemed like exactly the same sort of person.  I didn't talk to them for very long, but it was a greater meeting than I could have hoped for.  Even if they weren't celebrities in any way, I would have been very glad to have met them.

Cool:

Richard Starkings - I've seen him around a couple of times and he's always seemed very humble and nice to everyone around him.

Jim Valentino - He and Liefeld were next to each other in a signing line and every person who got Liefeld's signature got Valentino's too.  I was young and had no idea who Valentino was, but gave him a couple comics to sign right after Liefeld.  He looked at them and immediately knew that he hadn't worked on them (oops), but handled the situation really well.

Seemed cool (Though I didn't get too talk to them too much):

Rob Liefeld, Marc Silvestri, Jim Starlin, Roy Thomas, Tim Vigil, Mark Waid

Complete Tool:

howard chaykin - I was 16 and staring at the back of a big convention hall, reading a large banner strung from the ceiling.  It was at 10:00 on a clock face and out of 2:00 comes this man, and I had no idea who he was.  He is ranting and raving and cussing like a sailor and screaming that he should beat me down right then and there.  WTF did I think I was doing?  That went on for around 10 minutes, while I was stunned.  Eventually he got it out of his system and walked away.  The crowd that had gathered identified him as chaykin and more than one person asked me what I had done to piss him off.  I had no idea, though I found out later that he was heavily on drugs and alcohol during this time.

He is a very very odd character. I've spoken with him quite a bit as well as Alan Kupperberg at the same time. Chaykin sneezes, Kupperberg catches a cold.

They both went to art school together...

I have a classic line for you which nearly made me spit my drink out, but I managed to swallow and keep a straight face.

So... picture it in that high and very quick Chaykin voice.

''Gillian... I'm MORE than famous, I'm infamous... INFAMOUS, INFAMOUS!!!, Gillian, what am I?''

I really wanted to say a coked up tool... but I managed a meager and somewhat dry reply of ''Infamous Howie!!!'' Tongue

I look at him as the US version of Alan Davis, never sure what response you'll get, and most of what comes out of their mouths is shit, but it is ALWAYS entertaining.

I wish I had a £1 for every time I have seen Davis tell someone to fuck off! laugh

I'm hoping Gill'll* come in and tell some of her encounters. They're way better - and she has a much better memory anyway. Grin

Is it just comics/ TV guys??? I lack film encounters, not many TV either.
Never had much interest in them other than watching it.

I have plenty of music and comix anecdotes though.

From shitty 80s glam bands to Jimmy Page.

To teasing Alex Ross and being a character in Elliot S Maggins book... Breakfast with Jim Lee, Didio drunk in the gutter on his back.
Soft toys with Mike Carling, Bottles of whisky with Sean Phillips, getting high with Leah Moore in the loos of the holiday inn, owls with Barry Kitson, government feline plots with Grant Morrison, veterinary advice with Mrs Nodell...

Let me think of the best. There are many odd, funny and just plain strange ones.

Again... Mark would be the best at these as he was always Mr T-Total.

I'd love to meet him, but I'm pretty sure it would turn into me laying on the ground just drooling on his shoes....same with Ellis unless I get liquored up first and then who the fuck knows what would happen.

He is incredibly cool. One of those people who does carry a kinda presence.

But very approachable and down to earth, you'd soon stop drooling and converse as he's such a nice guy. Smiley

He, Neil Gaimen and Elliot S Maggin have all helped me in some way with raising awareness, money and contributed to animal welfare projects. Thumb's Up Thumb's Up Thumb's Up
