I have it set to record this week and will enjoy it after some graduation festivities for my sister this weekend. It will be a good way to wind down from all the stress and expense of throwing her a nice graduation party.

Really good stuff. Loving it so far. Cosner is clearly the star but everyone is doing a great job.

Interesting.
These people are pretty vile though. I mean, this was only a little over a century ago, and people were killing kinfolk and neighbors over petty shit. Then again, I guess the more things change, the more they stay the same.
Can't really say I favor one family over the other. Seems most of the decent folk end up on the short end of the stick.

Saving all three parts to watch at a later time. Busy with re-watch of THE SHIELD (about to start Season 5) and BREAKING BAD (finally convinced the GF to give it a chance, so started the first season the other day). Plus, I'm 17 episodes into FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, have the last six episodes of CASTLE in the DVR and I recently finished all three seasons of THE GOOD WIFE as well as season 5 of ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS and season 4 of TRUE BLOOD. Oh, also knocked off a re-watch of th first season of GAME OF THRONES. And...I'm planning re-watches later this year for both MAD MEN and LOST... See, being out of work does have some perks.

part 3 was great till the big battle. Then lost steam. Still a very interesting take on an historical event.

I watched about 15 minutes of the first one. Seemed like it could be summed up with: the Hatfields are fucking batshit.

Just Uncle Jim. And Emmy time will be interesting. All the main cast members did great jobs, especially Powers Boothe and Tom Beringer. ANd I didn't recognize Beringer until someone told me who it was.

Yeah, Jim Vance seemed to be at the heart of the dispute, but neither family is blameless.
Damn History Channel didn't show the encore at 11:00 on Wednesday-- and I wasn't about to stay up until 3:00 to watch it, so I had to wait until yesterday's marathon.
I think part II was the most dramatic, but night III had its moments. Mare Winninham really put in a great performance. Even the small performances -- like that of Jeff McCoy -- brother of Nancy -- were notable.
I've been doing some reading, and the mini-series mostly followed what has been recorded of the feud. One event that was altered was the whipping of Nancy's and Jeff's sister and daughter at the hands of the McCoys (it was Nancy in the mini-series, but not in real life). Jeff was shot when trying to get revenge for said whipping -- not for being wanted for the killing of a postman.
Johnse was apparently a bit of a cad -- as was alluded to in the film. When he turned his back on Rosanna after she saved his life -- he lost a lot of sympathy from me. Rosanna contracted measles, miscarried -- and pretty much died of a broken heart/depression after her home and family was viciously attacked/burnt by Jim Vance. She was under 30 at her death.
I cheered when Jim Vance finally met his end. He is believed to have murdered Randall Mccoy's brother (Nancy's father) on January 7 -- before the Civial War ended. Although both West Virginia and Kentucky were in the Union, the Mccoys and the Hatfields either fought for the Confederacy or were sympathizers. Randall's brother actually chose to fight in the Union -- against the wishes of his family. Jim Vance warned that he would be paid a visit upon his return due to an injury -- and he McCoy hid out in a cave -- where his slave brought him food. It is believed Vance followed the footsteps of the slave in the snow -- and murdered McCoy in the cave. Years later, Vance met his end on the same date -- January 7.
The Hatfields were largely the family that outsiders were sympathetic with until the attack on the McCoy home. Anderson "Devil Anse" was the more charismatic patriarch, while Randall was considered humorless and somewhat morbid. After the New Year's Eve attack and murders though -- most of the Hatfields became wanted men.
I missed the part in the ending where is talked of Sally McCoy -- excpet that she was buried next to her husband. They didn't have a year of her death.
