Total Recall --   colin ferrel has become box-office poison.  may as well reboot running man while you're at it.  this is just a head-scratcher.

clearly his best performance since bullseye.

my nostradamishness failed me this week.  i was expecting 40 mil weekends for prometheus and madagasfarts.  alot of crusty fuckers musta come outta their retirement homes to post those numbers for our boy ridley.  and i guess people are still having kids, and they still want them out of the fucking house for a while, even if it does cost $12 for a 3d toon ticket these days.  cheaper than a nanny, i guess. (that flick reportedly cost $145 to make.  wtf?  just how much does david schwimmer charge to play a talking giraffe?)

finally saw avengers.  i was expecting a LOT more.  jeez, guys.  the first 3/4's of the movie, plot-wise, was about on par with an episode of 'spider-man and his amazing friends'.  alot of really dumbed-down silliness, and the heroes fighting each other through half the movie, on very thin pretense??  big fat meh.  i'll have to see it again, i guess.  other than some good hulk moments, seemed like everybody was just kinda runnin around, like, fixing toilets and shit.

I'd put TDKR somewhere around half a bil.  Not as big as TDK, definitely not as big as Avengers.

Spider-Man?  The first weekend will be key with that.  I'll see it, but it's not as exciting as when the first Spidey flick came out.

Yeah, I expect Batman to have solid attendance, but based on the boring trailer, there is no way it's going to beat Avengers.

And, unfortuantely for Spider-Man -- it's too soon for a reboot. I think this has the potential to be pretty darn good, but I'm guessing the general audience will think of this more as Spider-Man 4 -- and not swarm into theatres to see it.

yeah, i got no butterflies in my tummy like i did for '04 spider-man.  i imagine it's the same for a lot of folks.

so i have not looked at fridays numbers-- scout's honor--they may not even be out yet, but i'm calling a big plummet for prometheus-- over 55%, a 9 mil day for the adam sandler flick, and 6 mil for the def leppard one.

was going to predict a 135 million opening for batman (seems i'm always underestimating by half, so i added 50% to my original predic), but now it's anybody's guess.  i'm gonna say 100 mil.

I really, really hope this doesn't have a negative effect on the movie.  It probably will, but I'll be disappointed when it does.

I refrained all day from the comment that sprung to mind earlier this afternoon, so I've softened my reaction a bit at this moment.

But...

Sorry, but I think it was a pretty dick move even commenting on this.  Who the fuck cares about your box office speculations today? Way to put yourself out there by saying it might make less money than you (or anyone who wasn't already opposed to the film) thought it would due to a senseless and horrible tragedy and all the fallout that has already hit (pulling ads, showings, etc) or is yet to come.

And again, this is the Mr. Softee version of this post.

Most of the more recent news reports I've heard, have stopped mentioning that the the Colorado massacre occurred in a showing of Dark Knight Rises. I wonder if Warner Bros is trying to disassociate their movie from the killings. Apparently the killer has stated that he was just being the Joker. Heath Ledger's awesome performance, is still impacting people (though, in horrible ways). It's bizarre, Ledger died shortly after completing that role, and now this. This Holmes kid is definitely not wrapped too tight.

We saw Amazing Spider-Man tonight and there was a film crew out in front of the theater asking people if they felt safe going into the movies. Really?!

Gotta agree here.  I am sure that the families of the victims and people of Colorado and the Nation give a flying fuck about how big it opens.  There are things more important than Dollars.
