Sirius XM was running a thoughtful little retrospective blurb this morning which mentions his early success in his "native" Australia.

It is nice though that they've been playing a lot of Bee Gees lately, not just on the day-of and a couple of days later like they do for other artists.

This is really shaping up to be a bad year for artists and legends.  RIP Robin, and heart goes out to the remaining Gibbs.

I'm trying to abstain from Mojo and the inevitable fight that I feel will resurface as it returns. I would appreciate it if everyone would respect that and not give me any. Thank you.

I think that should be singular if you are talking about the band.  Plural if you're talking family.

In the DCnU, Andy is alive and Hispanic.

Bee Gees are/were one of my wife's favorites, and some fine songwriters. Wise move to embrace the whole of their catalog and accept the jokes rather than fight them. Anybody here see the By Request they did a few years ago? Really entertaining, and they sounded better than ever.

Oh, I agree, in general I'm not a fan of dismissing musical genres, but I Think disco takes an unfair hit.  A lot of folks took some pretty cool twists with R&B/Dance/Soul and made, what I thought were some lasting sounds.  THe Gibbs were among the best at that.

It also filled a social need, with a few exceptions, rock in the 70's started to take itself too seriously, and people needed some good, fun, cut-loose, music.  "Yes, Viet-nam is terrible, but I just need some good music to chase Stacy Johnson by"

Punk and Disco are exactly what we've got today, but now it's Americana/roots and dance. The Clash and Donna Summer have become the Avett Brothers and Janelle Monae. (When we're lucky.)

Prince was kind of doing that, but I think you said you're not much on Prince. Rocko would have a better idea about a current equivalent to EWF.

Oh no, I dig Prince, but ultimately I'd say he's more a Sly and the Family Stone than anything....with a little bit of Jimi and EWF thrown in the mix.

Robin was on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon months and months ago.  He was very quick witted.  I always appreciate that quality in a person.

A lot of great music came out of the disco era, and of couse, the Bee Gees were not limited to disco.

I'll admit that I was too easily influenced by friends in the early 80s to dismiss all disco. It was the thing to do in the early 80s. Disco sucks, blah, blah, blah. You know -- some of those unending bump and grinds that they played at discos -- yeah, we can live without that. But "Jive Talkin'" is one of the all-time great feel good songs of any era. I think in the past decade, people have finally given the Bee Gees the acclaim they always deserved.

Any way, I know that even coming out of the coma, Robin still was facing colon cancer, so it seems the odds were against him.
