It's been a rough year for talent all around.  Authors, actors, singers.....  RIP Donna.

Yeah...not including the several comic book luminaries who have passed away, so far -- the ones I can scrounge up in the first 4 1/2 months of the year are:

*DONNA SUMMER
VIDAL SASSOON
MAURICE SENDAK
GEORGE LINDSAY
*ADAM YAUCH (MCA)
*TOMMY MARTH (THE KILLERS)
JONATHAN FRID
*GREG HAM (MEN AT WORK)
*LEVON HELM
DICK CLARK
MIKE WALLACE
THOMAS KINKADE (PAINTER)
*EARL SCRUGGS
*MICHAEL HOSSACK (DOOBIE BROTHERS)
*RONNIE MONTROSE
*DAVY JONES
DAVID KELLY (THAT SKINNY OLD GUY IN A BUNCH OF MOVIES)
*WHITNEY HOUSTON
BEN GAZZARA
*DON CORNELIUS
IAN ABERCROMBIE (MR. PITT FROM SEINFELD)
ROBERT HEYGES
JAMES FARENTINO
DICK TUFELD (ROBOT FROM LOST IN SPACE)
*ETTA JAMES
*JOHNNY OTIS

The only one I realized I hadn't known about was Greg Ham. I have a poster from Cargo on my basement wall right now. Between him and Yauch, I guess I won't have any oldies shows to attend in the future.

Wow, the list is even bigger than I thought...  I know there are quite a few icons said to be in poor health too.  Christopher Lee is one that comes to mind...  Sad

When I was in high school band, we had an entire Donna Summer halftime show. I think it included Hot Stuff, Bad Girl and On the Radio.

Donna was everywhere then. But I do think her post-disco anthem -- She Works Hard for the Money -- may have been her best song. Hot Stuff and Last Dance would definitely round out her top three.

2012 may not be the actual end of the world, but it is definitely taking enough from it so as to seem like a much shittier place than it was just one year ago.
