A friend of mine who is getting into comics was talking to his English professor who is just getting into comics and the professor was talking about how Superman is an allegory of Jewish people. I knew there were parallels but him commenting on it made me wonder how much of it was intentional on the part of the creators.

So I start looking for when things like Krypton and "Kal-El" were introduced. It's pretty tough though to track it down with the wealth of non-info that comes up when you google it. I guess this Superman chap is rather popular.

Are there any books, websites, or documentaries that really outline the creative history of the character? Thanks gents!

Really? The character's only been around for nine months. How hard can it be?

There's been some talk that Siegel conceived a prototype Superman not long after his father died of a heart attack while being robbed in his clothing store.

Everything you could ever want to know about the Man of Steel and a great read to boot.

And F.Y.I there were two "proto" Supermen.

The first was a bald headed evil version, who had mental powers and was created by a "Dr Frankenstein" type with a formula.

The second was more like the Superman we know today (or at least the Golden Age version) but not nearly as fleshed out and minus the famous costume.

I'm trying to abstain from Mojo and the inevitable fight that I feel will resurface as it returns. I would appreciate it if everyone would respect that and not give me any. Thank you.

You mean little tidbits like "Kalel" is supposed to be Hebrew for "Son of God"?

There was a documentary a few years back called 'Look, Up in the Sky!' that you might want to check out.  Has a fair bit of the allegory talk and discusses when a lot of things came into Superlore.
