Jeezus, you think that looks like Kyle?

You need to slow down on the Methylated Spirits, old chap.
There's a reason they don't sell it straight from the fridge.

Yeah, they won't fit in the fridge with Kyle's girlfriend.

I wouldn't even bother to download a DC comic right now.

They had plenty of gay characters before, and thats all well and good.  But to take a guy thats been around since pretty much the begining and make HIM gay?  Thats just stupid.

I'll be back when Didio is gone Warner brothers, and not a second before.

Do you realize what they've done to Jay Garrick as well?  Turned one of the most professional, competent, intelligent, heroic guys in all of comics into a directionless slacker.  WTF?

But they haven't. They just used his name for an all-new, all-different character. I guess Alan, Jay and Ted will live on forever now as old men. Or maybe they'll be seen in Multiversity. The last issue of Action Comics I read introduced Earth 23 with an Obama type as Superman. I think we're finally beginning to see Multiversity take shape.

It will still stink of him long after he's gone. Took a decade to sweep out the house Carlin built.

And we are still (even in the Nu) feeling the effects of Schwartz and Kahn.

Well, your comic shop may not get my money but I'll make sure to buy at least one copy of this issue and several of the follow ups to offset your vote against gays on this new earth Smiley

Hardly a vote against gays. It's a vote against telling new readers that Alan Scott is for some strange reason gay. Hell his two kids don't even exist anymore, so your buying it is a vote against gays because you're supporting Todd being Wally'd away. If you want to use that kind of logic. But then, I was an Obsidian fan longer than half of DC's fans have been alive so what do I know?

let's us settle this part once and for all this isn't the Alan Scott you have read all these years, this isn't the earth 2 you've read all these years, and this sure isn't the dc universe you've read for all these years.  this is the all new Nu....so no one destroyed YOUR Alan Scott....he still exist in all those books you read.

On that same thought, the JSA that showed up in Armageddon Inferno and stuck around for years wasn't the JSA either. But we lied to ourselves and pretended it was. The REAL JSA has been gone since the Last Days special. Doesn't mean it's a good thing for DC to try to ultimatize a concept built on nostalgia. I'd rather this new abomination go away QUICKLY before people resign themselves to accepting it.

So your problem is with the reboot? Right? Why are you angry now, a year later? You haven't bought anything in close to a year right?  Or is this a gay issue for you?  Really confused.

I'm still buying a few titles, but a fraction of what I used to. Earth 2 was one title I planned on buying, solely for the JSA connection. Every fiber of my being screamed it was all wrong by moving their origin into the 21st century with shitty costumes but I was going to pinch my nose and stick with it anyway. And yeah, seeing someone DC is passing off as Alan Scott making out with the werewolf from Twilight was the absolute last staw. I don't read comics to see my childhood heroes make out with guys. THAT was a sucker punch to the gut. DC should be ashamed of themselves for this. Tell me honestly that Mart Nodell isn't rolling in his grave right now.

Want a good gay superhero? DC should try CREATING one. Nobody is stopping them. Stop fucking with the great ones they already have. Create a few of them, throw them at the wall and see what sticks. The cream always rises to the top, so make a few and junk the ones that bomb, keep the ones that fans like. But it shouldn't be done by piggybacking on names that are 7 decades old and are firmly established.

So while this is indicitive of everything that DC is doing with the JSA and the Earth 2 concept (making Jay a slacker teen with a horrible costume, jettisoning the WWII connection, etc), this was just a shitty move. It is possible to find gay superheroes in comics a natural evolution of the medium without supporting seeing the newest incarnation of the golden age Green Lantern sucking face with a dude. I know they have gay characters front and center in other books like X Men, Manhunter and whatever. That's great and I hope it continues. Comics should appeal to a lot of people and everyone should be able to find what they are looking for in terms of genre, characters, time period, etc. And because of that I think as a paying customer I should still be able to buy my little JSA funnybooks and not see splash pages of Green Lantern with his tongue down some guy's throat.

Does that make any sense or am I rambling? I don't mean it to be a prick; I WANT everyone to have their own heroes and things to enjoy in the medium. I don't give a shit about the Legion but I'm glad for their fans that there's always two titles for them to read. I'm legitimately pissed that the kind of comics that I'm standing here waiting to give DC money for aren't being made for me anymore. Where's my nostalgic little corner of the DC universe where the characters I grew up loving are there for me every month? Why am I after decades of loyal patronage suddenly being told to go fuck myself?

Yes.

Here's a tip: Take your copies of Earth-2, a bottle of Tipp-ex, and go over all the instances of the words "Alan" and "Scott" and replace them with a pen with the name of your choice: Fred Smith, or Fernando Wilbraham, even. It'll make as much, if not more sense that way anyway.

This is also a good point. Shit, they could have given Obsidian a book with a decent creative team.

This whole issue is about hype. Its not about being gay or black or asian etc its how do we get attention. They could have started a series with a gay hero being front and center when they re-booted but they didn't. I think they are starting to realize that in order to keep this ball of wax rolling they have to do things to get the public to look.

Think about how many books were cancelled this spring. JLI is going down soon. I see several more following. They already lied about what they are going to do. As one who gets a few of these books I've only seen one 1-shot (the Obama Superman Action) yet they said there would not be as many long story arcs but more single issues.

I'll carry on later.

First, lemme say I mean no offense to anyone. But this Alan ain't my Alan. Also, that ain't my Hawkman or Batgirl, Barry is dead, & Sinestro is not a fucking GL, etc., etc. I make my own continuity as I go. Anything I don't like goes in my own personal Elseworld, for future reference or not. This shit is no different than Blackest Night. Lots of shock value & very little substance.

Moores hit it right. Why not put good creators on Obsidian & tell great stories? Or Apollo & Midnighter? Just my opinion, but DC would do better by bringing a gay character to prominence than making a prominent character gay.
