Jurassic Park 4 Has Found New Writers!

Source: ComingSoon

June 20, 2012

Deadline's Mike Fleming is supposed to be on vacation, but he wasn't going to leave without dropping one last big tidbit for us, and it's that Universal Pictures have hired Rise of the Planet of the Apes screenwriters Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver to write Jurassic Park 4, the long-awaited follow-up to Jurassic Park 3, the third installment of Steven Spielberg's blockbuster dinosaur franchise which was released way back in the summer of 2001.

Last December, Spielberg himself told ComingSoon.net that it was on the schedule and this time, it looks like it might really be happening.

The previous three movies--the first two movies directed by Spielberg--have grossed $1.9 billion worldwide

From IGN:

No Hartnett as Daredevil?

David Slade confirms no Hartnett and no 3D at this time.

by Max Nicholson

June 20, 2012

Following an off-the-cuff tweet from director David Slade, the Internet was abuzz with rumors suggesting Josh Hartnett was up for the title role in Fox's upcoming Daredevil reboot.

Slade, who's been attached to the project for over a year now, got fans a little too excited when he agreeably responded to a hopeful tweet asking about his former 30 Days of Night star portraying the blind lawyer-turned-superhero. However, given that the film is still in the writing stages, Slade later clarified that casting had not even begun and that Hartnett nor any other actor was "being discussed" at this time. But he didn't rule out the actor completely, adding that Hartnett was "an excellent and underrated actor and a wonderful human being."

While he was at it, Slade also debunked any rumors that Daredevil would be shot in native 3D, as he is "firmly against" it. What's more, 20th Century Fox is "rightly against 2D to 3D conversions."

So there you have it. Slade's Daredevil will definitely not be in 3D and will also probably not star Hartnett as the Man Without Fear... probably not.

From IGN:

Harry Potter's Yates May Swing Around Tarzan

Who will direct Warners' new jungle-dwelling pic?

by Max Nicholson

June 19, 2012

While Constantin Films continues working on its motion-capture Tarzan flick starring Kellen Lutz and Spencer Locke, Warner Bros. is still moving forward on their own big-screen adaptation -- and word has it that a couple of filmmakers are now circling the project.

Indie Wire reports that Harry Potter helmer David Yates as well as Nanny McPhee Returns' Susanna White have both expressed an interest in Warners' vine-swinging epic. While Yates is clearly the better get, White would be the more affordable choice considering most of her previous credits are limited to television.

There was also a rumor going around that Gary Ross was eying the pic, but the Hunger Games director very quickly put that hearsay to bed in a statement from his reps.

Paranormal Activity 4 Begins Filming

Paramount's found-footage follow-up still on track.

by Max Nicholson

June 19, 2012

We haven't heard much from Paranormal Activity 4 in a while, but it sounds like its all smooth sailing for Paramount's found-footage horror franchise.

Studio System News reports that principle photography began for the film last week. Paranormal 3 helmers Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman have returned to the directors' chairs and are shooting from a script by Zack Estrin (The River, Prison Break). Plot details remain under wraps.

Paranormal Activity 4 is still on track for an October 19 release.

Hobbit Worries Euro Theater Owners

Higher frame rate = higher costs.

by Scott Collura

June 18, 2012

European theater owners are meeting in Barcelona right now for the annual CineEurope convention, and a chief topic of conversation surrounds the extra cost that exhibitors expect to pay in order to project Peter Jackson's two-part adaptation of The Hobbit when the first film releases in December.

The Hollywood Reporter says that distribution of the film, which was shot at 48 frames per second rather than the standard 24, will cost theater owners more because the technology requires upgrades to projection systems.

Jackson is attempting to push the boundaries of filmmaking with the move into 48 fps, but as we reported back in April when we screened some 10 minutes of The Hobbit, the results were disconcerting -- almost like watching a live television broadcast rather than a proper "film."

"As we know, software updates are not free to exhibitors," European Digital Cinema Forum CEO David Monk said at the conference. "They take time and money, and you have to shut down the systems to install. Then they have to be tested."

THR adds that there are almost 4,000 screens in North America equipped right now with the Barco Series 2 projectors and the required software update to play 48 fps. Additionally, Sony plans for most of its 13,000 installed 4K digital cinema projectors to also support the format by the time The Hobbit is released.

X-perienced Producer Joins The Wolverine

Hutch Parker joins James Mangold's X-Men spin-off.

by Max Nicholson

June 18, 2012

Hutch Parker, who left New Regency for a longtime producing deal over at Fox, is coming on as producer for James Mangold's The Wolverine.

Parker is a logical choice for the studio considering his "X-tensive" background in X-Men lore. The producer developed and oversaw the original movies when he ran production at Fox.

The Wolverine follows up on the events of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and takes place mostly in Japan. The story centers on Logan as he develops a forbidden romance with a woman already engaged to another man. Logan is eventually forced into battle with the woman's father, her deadly sword-wielding brothers and Silver Samurai.

Mandrake the Magician Gets a Rewrite

Wheeler set to spruce up Warners' magician tale.

by Max Nicholson

June 18, 2012

Puss in Boots writer Tom Wheeler has been brought aboard to rewrite Mandrake the Magician for Warner Bros. and Atlas Entertainment.

Based on the original comic by Lee Falk, the story centers on an illusionist who has the power to hypnotize his foes at a remarkable speed. Along with his strongman companion Lothar, Mandrake combats evildoers, crooks and even aliens.

Over the years, many studios and personalities had tried to conjure this feature film, but with little success. Columbia Pictures did a 12-part serial in 1939, and a TV movie was made in the 1970s. But up until now, Mandrake had been collecting dust.

In addition to Mandrake the Magician, Wheeler is currently writing Trollhunters for DreamWorks Animation and director Guillermo Del Toro.

Huh. Wow. That could really be great. I still think, like most comic adaptations, it should be animated, but at least comedy won't be inappropriate, maybe.

The Trailer for Dredd is Here!

by SuperHeroHype

June 21, 2012

Lionsgate has released the first trailer for Dredd, the Pete Travis-directed action thriller opening in 3D and 2D theaters on September 21. Alex Garland wrote the R-rated film, which stars Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby and Lena Headey. You can watch the trailer below the synopsis!

The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called "Judges" who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge, challenged with ridding the city of its latest scourge - a dangerous drug epidemic that has users of "Slo-Mo" experiencing reality at a fraction of its normal speed.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan's inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound's control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

New Iron Man Cartoon in the Works?

by SuperHeroHype

June 21, 2012

A few weeks ago with the news of the renewal of Ultimate Spider-Man and the announcement of Avengers Assemble and Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. one would think that there wouldn't be much more left to say, you'd be wrong.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter the President of Disney Channels Worldwide Gary Marsh talked about the series very briefly.

Two months ago, we launched Marvel Universe on Disney XD, which became the exclusive home for new Marvel television content. We've developed Ultimate Spider-Man. Subsequent to the success of the Avengers movie, we've been developing a new Avengers Assemble. We're talking about a Hulk series and an Iron Man series, too. They're going to spend $150 million to $200 million to make these [movie] properties and then half of that to market them; I'm sitting here thinking, "Thank you, Lord, you've made me look good."

Since the news of the Hulk show has already come out we don't think it will be much longer before we hear about Iron Man too.

Trailer for Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

by SuperHeroHype

June 21, 2012

Entertainment Weekly has posted a first look at the trailer for Nickelodeon's upcoming CG-animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. The magazine doesn't provide embeds, so you will have to click here to watch the video.

Coming to Nick this fall, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles features the voices of Jason Biggs as Leonardo, Sean Astin as Raphael, Greg Cipes as Michelangelo and Rob Paulsen as Donatello.

In the show, Raphael is the biggest and toughest of the brothers, and has little patience for stealth operations, hiding in the shadows or keeping his voice down. Leonardo, considered to be the leader of the turtles, aspires to be the perfect hero around his three smart-aleck brothers. Donatello is the reclusive, yet utterly brilliant team inventor who is able to cobble together fantastic weapons from things scrounged from a trash heap. And Michelangelo is enthusiastic, easily distracted, loves pop culture and is always trying to get in on the latest fad.

Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles begins as the turtles emerge from their hidden lair in the sewers for the very first time, ready to confront the wondrous and hostile world of New York City and face enemies more dangerous and pizza more delicious than anything they could have imagined. Funnier and with more Ninjitsu than ever before, the show will explore the camaraderie of four teenage brothers learning to rely on themselves and one another as they unravel the mystery of their existence and grow to become the heroes in a half-shell that they are destined to be.
