Hasbro Announces Comic-Con Exclusive Helicarrier
by
SuperHeroHype
June 11, 2012
Hasbro might be just the most recent to offer a look at their own SDCC exclusives this year, but it will definitely be one of the hottest items up for grabs. Take a look at this Con exclusive Helicarrier with an all new Maria Hill and Captain America figure to accompany, courtesy of
Hero Complex
.
This Helicarrier will be four feet long, a foot longer than the retail version of the Helicarrier that Hasbro displayed at Toyfair '12. The set will cost $129.99 so make sure you get yours while you can. Take a look at it below along with the box art drawn by Joe Quesada himself.
The decision makers at Mattel can go fuck themselves.

Walt Disney Animation Studios Announces
Frozen
for November 2013
Source:
ComingSoon
June 11, 2012
Walt Disney Animation Studios has unveiled that the epic adventure
Frozen
, voiced by Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel, will hit theaters in November of 2013:
Walt Disney Animation Studios presents an epic tale of adventure and comedy in “Frozen,” a computer-animated feature film slated for the big screen in November 2013. Directed by Chris Buck (“Tarzan,” “Surf’s Up”) and produced by Peter Del Vecho (“Winnie the Pooh,” “The Princess and the Frog”), “Frozen” features the vocal talents of film/TV/stage star Kristen Bell as Anna, a young dreamer about to take the adventure of a lifetime, and Tony Award ®-winning actress Idina Menzel as Elsa the Snow Queen. The movie will feature original songs by Broadway greats Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez.
In “Frozen,” a prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter, so Anna (voice of Bell) must team up with Kristoff, a daring mountain man, on the grandest of journeys to find the Snow Queen (voice of Menzel) and put an end to the icy spell. Encountering Everest-like extremes, mystical creatures and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom from destruction.
Bell has starred in a variety of films, including the comedies “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Couples Retreat,” and the upcoming films “Hit & Run,” “Some Girls” and the Farrelly Brothers’ “Movie 43.” On the small screen, Bell is currently starring in the Showtime series “House of Lies” alongside Don Cheadle; she has also starred in “Heroes” and “Veronica Mars.” Broadway credits include “The Crucible” and “Tom Sawyer.”
Menzel, who won a Tony Award® as Best Actress in a Musical for her role as Elphaba in Broadway’s “Wicked” (2004), landed her first role on Broadway in 1995 in the Tony Award-winning musical “Rent.” Film credits include “Enchanted” and the feature film “Rent.” She has appeared in a recurring role on TV’s “Glee” and recently released “Idina Menzel Live: Barefoot at the Symphony,” a live concert with an orchestra led by composer/conductor Marvin Hamlisch. Menzel is currently on a North American concert tour.
Robert Lopez is a three-time Tony Award®-winning writer of the Tony and Grammy® Award-winning musical “The Book of Mormon,” which was co-written with Trey Parker and Matt Stone (“South Park”), and the musical “Avenue Q,” which ran for six years on Broadway and four years in London’s West End. Lopez teamed with wife Anderson-Lopez, whose Drama Desk-winning show “In Transit” is Broadway-bound, to write original songs for 2011’s “Winnie the Pooh,” a stage version of “Finding Nemo” and a new musical called “Up Here.”

Paramount Plans
God Particle
Source:
ComingSoon
June 11, 2012
J.J. Abrams has plans to produce a low budget science fiction project called
God Particle
,
Vulture
reports. Now being set up at Paramount Pictures and Abrams' Bad Robot, the script arrives from relative newcomer Oren Uziel.
The plot of the film is said to revolve around an American space station that, after an accident with a particle accelerator, suddenly finds that Earth has vanished altogether. Things get stranger when they then they pick up traces of another space station nearby.
In physics, the "God Particle" is a nickname given to the hypothetical Higgs boson, a particle upon which much of our understanding of quantum physics is based. The world's largest particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider, was built in Geneva, Switzerland in an attempt to prove the Higgs boson's existence.
God Particle
is likely to become a Paramount Insurge release and, as such, will go into development as a small-budgeted project like the studio's
The Devil Inside
.

Chris Hemsworth Takes
In the Heart of the Sea
Source:
ComingSoon
June 11, 2012
Chris Hemsworth has signed on for
In the Heart of the Sea
, a Joe Roth-produced true story of the 19th century whaling vessel Essex,
Deadline
reports. The incident, which served as the basis for Herman Melville's "Moby Dick," was the subject of a 2001
Nathaniel Philbrick
nonfiction book, upon which the film will be based. It is officially described as follows:
The ordeal of the whaleship Essex was an event as mythic in the nineteenth century as the sinking of the Titanic was in the twentieth. In 1819, the Essex left Nantucket for the South Pacific with twenty crew members aboard. In the middle of the South Pacific the ship was rammed and sunk by an angry sperm whale. The crew drifted for more than ninety days in three tiny whaleboats, succumbing to weather, hunger, disease, and ultimately turning to drastic measures in the fight for survival. Nathaniel Philbrick uses little–known documents-including a long–lost account written by the ship’s cabin boy-and penetrating details about whaling and the Nantucket community to reveal the chilling events surrounding this epic maritime disaster. An intense and mesmerizing read, In the Heart of the Sea is a monumental work of history forever placing the Essex tragedy in the American historical canon.
The script has been adapted by
Blood Diamond
scribe Charles Leavitt and, while no studio is officially announced, the trade suggests that DreamWorks is interested.

Paramount Pictures has plans to bring
Libba Bray
's upcoming novel to the big screen with Bray herself attached to provide the adapted screenplay,
The Wrap

New York is the city of speakeasies, shopping, and movie palaces! Soon enough, Evie is running with glamorous Ziegfield girls and rakish pickpockets. The only catch is Evie has to live with her Uncle Will, curator of The Museum of American Folklore, Superstition, and the Occult--also known as "The Museum of the Creepy Crawlies."
When a rash of occult-based murders comes to light, Evie and her uncle are right in the thick of the investigation. And through it all, Evie has a secret: a mysterious power that could help catch the killer--if he doesn't catch her first.

Jeph Loeb Offers Updates on Hulk & Avengers Cartoons
by
SuperHeroHype
June 12, 2012
With the success of
The Avengers
and the way everyone responded to Mark Ruffalo's Hulk, it's no surprise that Marvel has plans for the characters to continue in the realm of television. In an interview with
Yahoo!
, head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb offered some updates on the two projects.
"There are two huge projects that we're working on. The first, we know the impact that The Avengers had — and continues to have — this summer, and there's one particular character who has been the breakout hit of the summer and he's big and he's green and he's our Incredible Hulk. So we started talking about it and we thought what's more fun than one Hulk? And that would actually be five Hulks! That cast is Hulk; the Red Hulk; Skaar, who's the teenage barbarian Hulk, She Hulk — who's actually been a character in the Marvel Universe for 30 years; and a relatively new character, A-Bomb. He's more of a Blue Hulk. And together they are Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H."
When asked about the new Avengers show "Marvel's Avenger's Assemble," he said:
"The Avengers movie has been the ambassador to the world for the Marvel Universe so we want a show that has the feel and the tone and the incredible adventures like that movie. So the next project that we're working on — and this is down in our lab, top secret, with the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents protecting us at all costs — is Marvel's Avengers Assemble, which will be a brand new and really extraordinary looking animated series dealing with the Avengers in that same world."
He was also asked about the addition of Falcon to the team and what he will bring to the team:
"Falcon is going to be the eyes of the viewer. He's a new member of the Avengers so he's walking through our stories wide-eyed and with wonder and amazed to be a part of it. He's a little younger than the rest of the cast and a little greener, so he adds an interesting dimension to the team that we think will play really well with the audience."
