This year The Dark Knight Rises took the top prize, and then some, winning the awards of Best Action Trailer, Best Summer 2012 Blockbuster Trailer, and Best in Show. Chronicle was also represented and won the category of Most Original Trailer.

The awards are decided by a panel of judges and this year included names such as directors Jon Favreau, Ivan Reitman, and comedian Patton Oswalt.

Joel Kinnaman Speaks About RoboCop

by SuperHeroHype

June 01, 2012

It might seem like heresy to many, but we're really excited about the RoboCop remake here at SHH! Though it doesn't come out until August of 2013, we're already gearing up with plenty of news and information about the film.

Collider interviewed star Joel Kinnaman and asked him about RoboCop and his feelings on remakes.

'I used to be like 'Why are we doing a remake? What are remakes being done for?'  But then, we do that all the time in the theater.  If we weren’t doing remakes, nobody would know who Shakespeare was.  I’m not saying that Robocop is Shakespeare, but it’s a way to … we’re retelling.  That’s what we do as human beings.  We retell our favorite stories.... José has a completely different take on this than Verhoeven had, and with all respect, everybody that’s involved in this movie loved the original and we have a lot of respect for it.  We’re going to have a lot of throwbacks and there’s going to be a lot of fun stuff for the fans of the first movie.  It’s a new story within the old one.'

When asked about his excitement for working with Gary Oldman, 'That feels about as surreal as me being RoboCop.  I couldn’t be happier.  He’s pretty much the grand master of the game....So, I’m very, very excited and we have great scenes that have a lot of the substance that I was talking about.  It’s very much a relationship between Gary Oldman’s character and Alex Murphy.'

RoboCop is set for release on August 9, 2013.

Channing Tatum to Star in the Wachowskis' Jupiter Ascending

Source: ComingSoon

June 1, 2012

Channing Tatum confirmed to MTV that he will star in the Wachowskis' next film after Cloud Atlas, titled Jupiter Ascending.

"Yes, absolutely," he said when asked if he'd be involved in the movie. "It's going to be a crazy action movie from the [directors] of 'The Matrix.' They're going to reinvent the wheel as far as action goes, all over again."

This comes a day after Vulture's report on the possible plot. The site said that Jupiter Ascending is about "higher forms of life [who] are watching us from other, albeit this time non-meta worlds, but actual, other worlds, as in planets and moons."

Mila Kunis will play a Russian immigrant "who is busily scrubbing toilets for a living. Unbeknownst to her, she actually possesses the same perfect genetic makeup as the Queen of the Universe and is therefore a threat to her otherwise immortal rule."

The Avengers Passes The Dark Knight Domestically, Harry Potter Globally

by SuperHeroHype

June 02, 2012

Marvel's The Avengers added another $5.7 million domestically on Friday to push its North American total to $538.1 million, surpassing The Dark Knight ($533.3 million) for the third spot on the all-time domestic box office list and trailing only James Cameron's Titanic ($658.5 million) and Avatar ($760.5 million).

Worldwide, "The Avengers" also climbed to the third spot on the all-time list, surpassing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 ($1.328 billion). "The Avengers" has earned $1.331 billion globally and trails Titanic ($2.185 billion) and Avatar ($2.782 billion) on that list as well.

"The Avengers" will remain in the third spot because second place is now out of reach for the film.

Casting News For Marcus Nispel's New Flick Backmask

by ShockTillYouDrop

June 01, 2012

Daily Dead reports that Brittany Curran (Captured) has been tapped to star in the upcoming Marcus Nispel (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday The 13th 2009) film, Backmask.

Filming is expected to start this month.

The screenplay was penned by Kirsten Elms (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D) and the film is being produced by Steven Schneider (The Lords of Salem and Insidious).

The plot synopsis goes like this: During a sex, drugs, and rock-fueled party, six small-town teenagers find an old vinyl record and decide to play it backwards in order to listen for any subliminal/satanic messages. Lo and behold, a seemingly malevolent spirit quickly infiltrates the group, wreaking havoc as it moves from one body to another. Eventually, however, it's revealed that the spirit in question is actually trying to convey a message...and that the real source of horror isn't particularly paranormal, but rather something (or someone) much closer to home.

You always get so excited, this time of year!

It's true.  I do.

This will be the 30th year in a row I've attended SDCC and I've always had fun.

Well, except for a few horrible moments at last year's Mattel/DC panel.

Clark Gregg on His Future in the Marvel Universe

by SuperHeroHype

June 03, 2012

Those who have not yet seen Marvel's The Avengers should be aware that the following article does contains spoilers for the film.

It's hard to imagine the big screen Marvel Universe without the face of Clark Gregg who, by playing Agent Phil Coulson in the original Iron Man, Iron Man 2 and Thor, helped to pave the way for the the superhero ensemble that is Marvel's The Avengers.

Despite Coulson's demise in the recent blockbuster, fan support has been swelling to bring the character back for subsequent cinematic entries with one popular solution being to turn the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent into the comics' synthezoid member, the Vision. Gregg, however, now reveals to MTV Splashpage that he's not entirely a fan of that approach.

"Vision is cool," the actors explains, "But I would hate to be any A.I. life form. If I got to come back, I would need to still be somebody who could wisecrack, because my favorite part of the job was that if anybody was going to tease anybody about their diva superhero outfit or whatever, it would be me."

Though it appears that Coulson is dead and gone on the big screen, the character can still be seen (voiced by Gregg) on the "Ultimate Spider-Man" cartoon series.
