Khan is Not the Villain in
Star Trek 2
by
SuperHeroHype
May 29, 2012
Despite persistent rumors to the contrary, Simon Pegg today confirmed to
The Telegraph
that the villian of the still-untitled
Star Trek sequel
will not be Khan Noonien Singh.
“It’s not Khan,”
said the actor, who plays Chief Engineer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott.
“That’s a myth. Everyone’s saying it is, but it’s not.”
Rumors began
late last year
when Benicio Del Toro was said to be up for a role as an undisclosed villian in the 2013 release. After the part went to Benedict Cumberbatch, rumors continued with a number of online sites "confirming" that Khan would appear.
In the original "Star Trek" universe, Khan, played by Ricardo Montalban, was a genetically engineered tyrant who seized control of much of the Earth in the 1990's during a conflict known as "The Eugenics Wars." At the conclusion of his reign, Khan escaped the Earth in a starship, the Botany Bay, and was held in suspended animation with his crew until he was found and revived in 2267 by Captain James T. Kirk. The character returned to menace the crew of the Enterprise in 1982's
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
.
Directed by J.J. Abrams, details on
Star Trek 2
are characteristically minimal, though returning cast members include Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin and Bruce Greenwood with new roles for Cumberbatch, Alice Eve and Peter Weller. Featuring a script by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof, the film will hit theaters on May 17, 2013.

Matthew Modine Gets His Own
Dark Knight Rises
Poster... Sort Of
by
SuperHeroHype
May 29, 2012
Last week, Warner Bros.
revealed
several character posters for Christopher Nolan's highly-anticipated Bat-finale,
The Dark Knight Rises
. Not surprisingly, the first three featured Christian Bale's Batman, Anne Hathaway's Catwoman and Tom Hardy's Bane. Since the July 20th release also stars actors like Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (to name a few), could more designs be on the way?
Prepping to promote the actor's role in the film, Matthew Modine's publicist today sent along an e-mail with the below image attached. Not an official one-sheet, the design was created by fan
Messenjamatt
and Tweeted to Modine. The actor was so impressed that wanted to share it with the world.
As it stands, very little is known about Modine's character, a deputy commissioner named Peter Foley. If the poster is any indication, though, he's much like other Gotham City residents in that he enjoys standing in the rain.
Who knows? Maybe Foley could wind up with an official poster when all is said and done. Fan support certainly helped in
getting Agent Coulson one
.

Marvel Animation Sets Blade and Wolverine Anime DVDs for July 31st
by
SuperHeroHype
May 29, 2012
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and Marvel Animation have announced plans to release their "Blade" and "Wolverine" Anime series on DVD July 31st. The two-disc sets will include all 12 episodes from each series and six all-new featurettes.
In the first series, Eric Brooks (Harold Perrineau) – known as Blade - seeks revenge on Deacon Frost, the vampire who killed his mother while she was still pregnant with him. With all the powers of a vampire and none of their weaknesses, Blade's quest leads him throughout Southeast Asia in search of Frost. In the Golden Triangle, he discovers a vampire plot that threatens to take down the whole world.
The three new featurettes include "The Marvel Anime Universe: Blade Re-Awakened", which explores the process that went into developing this new take on the vampire-hunter. Other featurettes include "Blade: The Vampire-Slayer", comparing Marvel’s Blade with traditional vampire stories, and "Special Talk Session: Marvel Anime's Blade and Wolverine", an interview with series creators.
The "Wolverine" anime stars Milo Ventimiglia as Logan who heads into action When the love of his life, Mariko Yashida, is taken back to Japan by her father Shingen, a notorious crime lord. Once in Japan, she is forcibly betrothed to Kurohagi, a cruel criminal associate of her father, to solidify their business interests. Determined to get her back, Logan is plunged into a tangled web of corruption and violence at every turn. But with the help of young assassin Yukio, he just might manage to claw his way through the criminal underworld to confront Shingen and save Mariko.
New featurettes include "The Marvel Anime Universe: Wolverine Reborn", providing insights into the process for creating the series. "The Ferocious Anti-Hero: Wolverine Defined" explores the hero’s character, and "Wolverine Meets X-Men" contains an interview with the creators of the Marvel anime Wolverine and X-Men.
Both series are guided by New York Times best-selling author Warren Ellis ("Iron Man: Extremis", "Astonishing X-Men: Xenogenesis"), and produced by Madhouse for Marvel Television and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan (SPEJ).

The dude who played Omar in The Wire wanted to be in Django and Kevin Smith was going to put in a good word for him with QT but Jamie Foxx was already signed. Foxx will be fine, but I would have loved to see it have worked out the other way.

That's funny, because Idris Elba was in the running for the lead, and looked like he had the part sewn up and suddenly -- it went to Jamie Foxx.
I'm looking forward to this film -- although I have a
major
beef with it. A (very) few folks may know what my issue is, but trust me -- it's solely my problem and mine alone!

Update on the Filming of
Iron Man 3
in North Carolina
by
SuperHeroHype
May 29, 2012
There were a few sightings of
Iron Man 3
filming in Wilmington, North Carolina today.
WECT TV6
reports:
Film crews with Iron Man 3 wrapped up at the Cape Fear Club on Chestnut and Second Streets in Wilmington a little earlier than expected.
WECT was in the area around 7 a.m. Tuesday morning and spotted Robert Downey Jr. heading into work for the day.
According to security guard, filming wrapped in that location in about three hours.
A recent post on Facebook shows that Ironworks Productions also headed to Wilmington International Airport later in the day.
You can check out some photos with their report by clicking
here
.
ComicBook.com
added the following with some possible spoilers:
Iron Man 3 filmed a scene at the Cape Fear Club in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina earlier today. The film’s security had things pretty well barricaded up so it was impossible to get any photos of the filming inside. Those that did get a glimpse inside reported seeing extras dressed in military uniforms and suits. The extras in suits were described as looking like Secret Service men.
While talking to some Wilmington locals, we had one source involved with the production tell us that Mandarin was definitely the villain. He said Mandarin had a set of twins that did most of his dirty work for him. Another source who had visited EUE/Screen Gems Studios told us that the sets they were building included Chinese storefronts.
Probably, the biggest piece of information we learned, which we reported earlier is that part of the story for Iron Man 3 will be set in Miami, Florida. A source close to the production revealed that he had seen vehicles emblazoned with logos for the city of Miami and Miami Police Department being unloaded on one of the sets.
Iron Man 3
, starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce, James Badge Dale, Ashley Hamilton and Jon Favreau, is scheduled to hit theaters on May 3, 2013.

Men in Black 3
Sets IMAX Memorial Day Weekend Record
by
SuperHeroHype
May 30, 2012
IMAX Corporation and Columbia Pictures today announced that
Men in Black 3
grossed $12.7 million at the box office in 474 IMAX theaters worldwide during its 4-day opening weekend beginning May 25. Domestically, the film grossed an estimated $70 million, of which $5.3 million was generated in 278 IMAX theaters. Internationally, the film grossed an estimated $133.2 million overall, of which $7.4 million was generated in 196 IMAX theaters. The film surpassed the previous Memorial Day Weekend global box office record set by
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
.
"We were excited to see 'Men in Black 3' set a new IMAX record for Memorial Day weekend," said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. "These solid results demonstrate that audiences around the world – particularly in key growth markets like China and Russia – will turn out in force to see the best in Hollywood entertainment in IMAX. We also believe that the combination of the first 'Men in Black' film presented in IMAX with a special six-minute clip of the upcoming and highly anticipated film, 'The Amazing Spider-Man,' provided audiences a special experience that can't be missed."
The IMAX release of
Men in Black 3
has been digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of An IMAX 3D Experience with proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology.

Initial Response to
Arrow
Pilot
by
SuperHeroHype
May 30, 2012
Even though the fall is still a few months away, buzz is already trying to gear up on the new CW DC hero project
Arrow
.
The first teaser was released a few weeks and now reports are coming in from various sources about the quality of the pilot itself.
The Detroit News
was coy about details but did say:
"can’t really comment on it since it’s a rough cut. I will say it had plenty of Easter eggs, and I’m looking forward to the full show."
Zap2it
had this to say:
"We've seen the pilot episode, and we L-O-V-E love it. We've got faith that even the 'Smallville' fans who are clamoring for more of Justin Hartley's Green Arrow will get on board with Stephen Amell's new version."
Star Stephen Amell also spoke to
Zap2it
about the differences between
Arrow
and the fan beloved
Smallville
,
"Nobody in our universe has super powers, so that's a big jumping off point." When asked about the diffrences in "Smallville's" Justin Hartley's Oliver Queen and his own, "I think we find Oliver Queen more injured than we saw him before. Other than in name, there are virtually no similarities between [Hartley's version and the new version]. It's not to say that one's better than the other, it's just that they're so different, it's almost weird to compare them."
"Arrow" premieres this fall on The CW.

New Details Emerge on
Iron Man 3
Villain
by
SuperHeroHype
May 30, 2012
The folks at
Latino Review
have got an interesting lead on what is happening on the
Iron Man 3
set and apparently not everyone is as tight lipped as the heads of Marvel Studios.
A crew member let it slip that, as predicted, Sir Ben Kingsley is indeed playing The Mandarin in the film but he will NOT be the primary antagonist. Guy Pearce's Aldrich Killian will be the main focus of evil in the film with The Mandarin being more to the side of it all. Perhaps waiting for his time to take the spotlight in
Iron Man 4
?
Iron Man 3
is currently filming in North Carolina, starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce, James Badge Dale, Ashley Hamilton and Jon Favreau. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on May 3, 2013.
