Check out the Trailer for
The Gangster Squad
Source:
ComingSoon
May 9, 2012
The first trailer for Ruben Fleischer's
The Gangster Squad
is now online, courtesy of
iTunes Movie Trailers
, along with a brand-new promotional image. Check out the video in the player beneath the synopsis and click on the image at the bottom of the page for a larger version in our gallery.
Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and--if he has his way--every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It's enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop...except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O'Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen's world apart. "The Gangster Squad" is a colorful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD's efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time.
The Gangster Squad
is currently without an official release date, but expect that to change in the very near future.

Ubisoft Announces Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth
by
SuperHeroHype
May 10, 2012
Ubisoft and Marvel announced today the video game
Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth
coming to the Xbox 360 and Wii U this fall. Here's the press release:
Ubisoft and Marvel Entertainment have joined forces to develop a video game based on the popular Avengers characters and other heroes and villains from the Marvel Universe.
Developed by Ubisoft Quebec, "Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth’s" interactive environments are inspired by iconic Marvel comic artwork and the Secret Invasion storyline. The game will be released this fall for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft with Kinect for Xbox 360 and Nintendo’s Wii U system.
“We are excited to team up with Marvel Entertainment to bring some of the most iconic comic book characters from the Marvel line-up to life in motion-gaming,” said Tony Key, US senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft. “Fans of the Marvel universe and superhero games are going to love the extensive combinations of characters, motion-controlled moves and competitive gameplay.”
“For the last few years, Marvel has positioned itself to deliver the absolute best in entertainment, be it in film, animation, comics or games,” said Andreea Enache-Thune, senior vice president of games and digital distribution at Marvel. “Partnering with Ubisoft is a big part of that ongoing movement. We are confident that Ubisoft’s talent matches Marvel’s own commitment to making the "Avengers: Battle for Earth" the best in the motion-controlled gaming category.”
"Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth" features 20 different characters, including Avengers such as Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America and Thor, as well as other fan-favorite super heroes and super villains from the Marvel Universe.

Watch the First Clip From
Superman vs. The Elite
by
SuperHeroHype
May 10, 2012
The first clip from the upcoming DC animated film
Superman vs. The Elite
is now online along with several news stills from the direct-to-DVD project. Check them all out below!
In the film, Superman's effectiveness as a superhero comes into question when a new group of super-powerful crusaders, known as "The Elite," appear on the scene. As superheroes, the Elite know no bounds and are more than willing to kill, even on a massive scale, to stop villainy -- putting them on a collision course with the ever-ethical, preferably nonlethal Man of Steel.
The voice cast is led by George Newbern, reprising his Justice League/Justice League Unlimited role as Superman, Pauley Perrette as Lois Lane, and Robin Atkin Downes as Manchester Black, the leader of The Elite.
Superman vs. The Elite
arrives in stores on June 12th.

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Byung-Hun Lee Join
RED 2
by
SuperHeroHype
May 10, 2012
Summit Entertainment has announced that Catherine Zeta-Jones and Byung-Hun Lee will be joining the ensemble cast of the upcoming
RED 2
, set to hit theaters on August 2, 2013.
The project is being directed by Dean Parisot from a screenplay by Erich and Jon Hoeber, who wrote the script for the original
RED,
based in turn on a comic book by Warren Ellis and Cully Hammer.
RED 2
brings back the team of retired CIA operatives as they use their old-school style to take on a new set of enemies all across Europe.
“We had so much fun making 'RED' and seeing that amazing cast assembled together – and so did consumers: over $200m worldwide and the number one home entertainment rental of last year,"
says Erik Feig, President, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, Production.
"We can't wait to bring them back together, give them some new friends, and show they ‘still got it.’”
Zeta-Jones can soon be seen on the big screen in
Rock of Ages
and Lee in
G.I. Joe: Retaliation
.
Lorenzo DiBonaventura and Mark Vahradian will produce the film via their DiBonaventura Pictures banner. Feig will oversee the project for the studio along with Summit Entertainment’s Senior Vice President of Production, Geoff Shaevitz.

MGM Plans to Adapt Ray Bradbury's
From the Dust Returned
Source:
ComingSoon
May 10, 2012
MGM has plans to develop
Ray Bradbury
's fantasy anthology
From the Dust Returned
,
Deadline
reports. The book, published in 2001, is officially described as follows:
Fifty-five years in the making, "From the Dust Returned" grew out of a short story, "Homecoming," which appeared in the October 1946 issue of Mademoiselle magazine. Bradbury has published just five other stories about the Elliots, an outlandish, greathearted and loving-spirited Halloween creature clan and their "abnormal" (i.e., his face is reflected in the mirror!) adopted son Timothy. Over the years, Bradbury readers have clamored for more Elliott tales. A lifelong labor of love, "From the Dust Returned" is a novel (in much the way "The Martian Chronicles" is a novel) comprised of the previously published six stories interwoven with newer chapters and "connective tissue" that give us an unforgettable portrait of the rise and fall of a most peculiar brood. Here are Cecy, "the one who dreams," a young girl yearning for love who can experience the world only through the travels of her mind; Uncle Einar, a fun-loving, proud-winged vampire who loses his ability to fly; Great Grandmère, the family matriarch, who speaks of millennia gone by from deep within her mummified wrappings; and Tom, a farm boy whom Cecy "meets" and falls in love with one night during one of her spirit-borne journeys.
The news comes after announcements last year that both Bradbury's
Dandelion Wine
and his
The Martian Chronicles
are headed to the screen.

Rachel McAdams Takes
About Time
Source:
ComingSoon
May 10, 2012
Rachel McAdams has landed a leading role Richard Curtis'
About Time
, says a story at
The Hollywood Reporter
. She's replacing the previously-attached Zooey Deschanel.
McAdams will star opposite Domhnall Gleeson, Bill Nighy, Tom Hollander, Margot Robbie, Lydia Wilson and Vanessa Kirby in the modestly budgeted time-travel romance, also scripted by Curtis and set up at Working Title Films.
Curtis' recent writing credits include Steven Spielberg's
War Horse

McAdams, meanwhile, recently appeared in
The Vow
opposite Channing Tatum and can soon be seen in Terrence Malick's still-untitled next film.

The Smurfs 3
is Already Being Planned
Source:
ComingSoon
May 10, 2012
Production
only recently
began on Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation's
The Smurfs 2
, but
Variety
is now reporting that plans are already underway for a third adventure with Karey Kirkpatrick and Chris Poche returning to provide the screenplay.
The second film is set to hit theaters on July 31, 2013 and stars Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Sofia Vergara, Hank Azaria, Brendan Gleeson, Katy Perry, Jonathan Winters, Alan Cumming, Fred Armisen, George Lopez, Anton Yelchin, John Oliver, Christina Ricci and JB Smoove.
In it, the evil wizard Gargamel creates a couple of mischievous Smurf-like creatures called the Naughties that he hopes will let him harness the all-powerful, magical Smurf-essence. But when he discovers that only a real Smurf can give him what he wants — and only a secret spell that Smurfette knows can turn the Naughties into real Smurfs — Gargamel kidnaps Smurfette and brings her to Paris, where he has been winning the adoration of millions as the world's greatest sorcerer. It's up to Papa, Clumsy, Grouchy, and Vanity to return to our world, reunite with their human friends Patrick and Grace Winslow, and rescue her! Will Smurfette, who has always felt different from the other Smurfs, find a new connection with the Naughties Vexy and Hackus – or will the Smurfs convince her that their love for her is True Blue?
There's no word yet on who else might be returning for
The Smurfs 3
, but check back for details as they become available.
