Nicolas Winding Refn Takes Button Man

by SuperHeroHype

May 31, 2012

Nicolas Winding Refn may have found his next project in Button Man, a comic book story from England's "2000 A.D." anthology. Deadine's story on the matter is making the rounds, but it appears to be the book's co-creator, Arthur Anson, who broke the story himself more than a week ago.

"I understand that DreamWorks have signed Nicholas Refn as director for a 'Button Man' film," Anson wrote on his official site. "They are now looking for a new writer for the Button Man screenplay. Their option with John Wagner and I has been renewed for another twelve months."

Wagner, the other Button Man creator, is also the creator of "Judge Dredd," the most famous of "2000 A.D."'s many tales and the subject of the upcoming feature film, Dredd.

"Ungrateful wretch that I am," Anson jokingly continues, "I was hoping the making of the film would be confirmed at this time and make me rich and famous before Christmas but this is good news and I guess improves the possibility that DreamWorks will make the movie."

The plot for Button Man has a group of millionaires, "The Fixers," organizing a deadly game of murder amongst "Button Men," guns-for-hire that they pay to kill one another. When one man, Harry Exton, enters the game, he decides to put an end to it once and for all.

Following his Drive last year, Refn has reteamed with star Ryan Gosling for Only God Forgives. The pair are also slated to remake Logan's Run at Warner Bros., a property that, oddly enough, Anson himself helped to adapt into comic book form in 1978.

Principal Cast for Kick-Ass More Than Likely Returning for Sequel

by SuperHeroHype

May 31, 2012

It was a good day for all of us when Kick-Ass 2 was announced as being greenlit. The bad news was that none of the orignal cast had options for a sequel, but once again the gods have smiled on us and things are looking up.

According to Deadline, it's looking like Aaron Johnson is getting close to finishing his deal with Universal to reprise the titular role. Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are also getting their deals finished.

But the most surprising thing about it all is that Nicolas Cage is looking to pop up in a cameo in the film.

No set release date as of now, but it seems like the film is on track to begin production this fall, so look for maybe a July or August of 2013 release.

May 30, 2012

The new trailer and poster for Rodrigo Cortes's Red Lights have come online and can be viewed below. Starring Cillian Murphy, Sigourney Weaver, Robert De Niro, Elizabeth Olsen and Toby Jones, the thriller opens in theaters on July 13. It's described as follows:

Veteran paranormal researchers Dr. Margaret Matheson (Sigourney Weaver) and Tom Buckley (Cillian Murphy) debunk fraudulent claims of ghost whispering, faith healing and other psychic phenomena by detecting what Matheson calls "red lights," the subtle tricks behind every staged supernatural occurrence. But when the legendary blind psychic Simon Silver (Robert De Niro) comes out of retirement after 30 years, his once-fearless adversary Matheson warns Buckley to back off, fearing reprisal from the powerful Silver.

Determined to discredit Silver, Buckley and his star student (Elizabeth Olsen) use every tool at their disposal to uncover the truth behind the charismatic, spoon-bending, mind reader. But Buckley is forced to reexamine his own core beliefs as his quest builds to a mind-blowing conclusion in this taut psychological thriller from award-winning writer and director Rodrigo Cortés ("Buried").

Matthew Vaughn Takes Lexicon

Source: Deadline, ComingSoon

May 31, 2012

Though the novel won't be released until mid-2013, X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn has purchased the rights to Max Barry's upcoming novel, Lexicon.

"['Lexicon'] is about a secret persuasion society that builds and deploys words as weapons," Barry writes on his official site. "The people who wield these words are known as poets; the story centers around a young woman who is recruited into their ranks, and the man she falls in love with. Which you are not allowed to do, as a poet. I could explain why, but I’m not going to. Just trust me."

Vaughn himself has plans to write and direct the big screen adaptation, though he'll first produce Kick-Ass 2 and will direct the still-untitled First Class sequel, tentatively planned to shoot in January of 2013.

Damon Lindelof Wants to Do an Iron Fist Movie

by SuperHeroHype

June 01, 2012

Prometheus co-writer and Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof is a very ambitious guy. After his already lengthy resume, he shows no signs of settling down for smaller projects.

In an interview with CBM, he was asked what characters he would want to adapt.

"I think I would rather do a character that not many people knew, and maybe saw as lame and couldn't carry their own movie. One character I've always loved is Iron Fist, and Matt Fraction's incredible run with him a couple of years back. I always thought that would make a really cool movie."

When the fact that an Iron Fist film had been brought up at the studio level before, Lindelof added: "Yeah well I mean I think it's because he's even more fringy than Iron Man was, and also because he's called IRON Fist they may be worried about some confusion with the Iron Man franchise, even though obviously they are very different characters. But I have to imagine that with the success of The Avengers, they are planning to give Black Widow and Hawkeye their own spin-offs, and there are many more characters on the fringe of the Marvel universe that I feel are equally worthy, like Iron Fist."

What do you guys think? Lindelof on an Iron Fist movie sound as appealing to you as it does us?

Marvel's The Avengers Teases a 10-Disc Blu-ray Release

by SuperHeroHype

May 31, 2012

Still doing incredible business in theaters, Marvel's The Avengers is on its way to DVD and Blu-ray later this year. Though an official date is still unconfirmed, an interesting tease has shown up Amazon for something called the "Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One - Avengers Assembled" Blu-ray collection. The tentative list of content for the ten-disc set reads as follows:

Marvel’s The Avengers (Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray)
Captain America: The First Avenger (Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray)
Thor (Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray)
Iron Man 2 (Blu-ray)
The Incredible Hulk (Blu-ray)
Iron Man (Blu-ray)
• Bonus Disc - “The Phase One Archives” (Blu-ray)
• Collectible packaging with exclusive memorabilia from the Marvel Cinematic Universe

The listing also includes the below image, which hints that the set might mimic the briefcase that Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury uses to transport the Cosmic Cube. Whatever is under the S.H.I.E.L.D. cloth, though, is said to be revealed on July 15th.

Written and directed by Joss Whedon, the superhero ensemble also stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston and Stellan Skarsgård.

WB Wanted The Riddler for The Dark Knight Rises

by SuperHeroHype

June 01, 2012

There was a lot of speculation as to who would be the bad guy in the sequel to the phenomenal The Dark Knight. Fan reaction seemed to be centered on The Riddler and as it turns out WB executives had a similar train of thought.

Batman-News.com has the details in an interview that David S. Goyer did with Empire magazine.

At the premiere for The Dark Knight in 2008 he says the studio already had their mind made up. They said, “it’s gonna be The Riddler, and we want it to be Leonardo DiCaprio…”

The same interview confirms that Nolan and Goyer didn't even know how the movie would go or who the villain would be until the fall of that year, but they did know how the film would end and Goyer says it hasn't changed from their original conception. "When Goyer saw that final scene from The Dark Knight Rises, he got a lump in his throat."

The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20.

Comics: DC Announces Who Its 'Gay' Character is

by SuperHeroHype

June 01, 2012

The internet almost exploded last week when word came out that one of DC's characters who hadn't been reintroduced into The New 52 would be returning but now he would be gay.

Well DC has finally made the announcement and it turns out that Alan Scott, the original Green Lantern, will be coming back and coming out.

Alan will be returning in the newly created "Earth 2" series and will make his debut in next week's "Earth 2" #2.

Series writer James Robinson said, “I’m very proud to be introducing Alan Scott into DC COMICS-THE NEW 52. He was my favorite Golden Age character and one I’m very familiar with so I’m really excited to be updating him for a contemporary readership. Oh, and on Earth 2 there is only one Green Lantern, so Alan's title is The Green Lantern. Alan's sexuality is just one facet of him, along with his innate goodness, valor, charisma and skill at leadership that makes him the perfect man to wield the power of the green light in the world of Earth 2."

Series artist Nicola Scott had this to offer, "Alan strikes me as an incredibly open, honest and warm man, a natural leader and absolutely the right choice to be Guardian of the Earth. His sexuality is incidental. Every time I draw him I love him even more."
