Neil Marshall Plans The Last Voyage of the Demeter

Source: ComingSoon

May 11, 2012

Neil Marshall is latest name to become attached to The Last Voyage of the Demeter, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter. Last year, David Slade was said to be planning to direct and, before that, both Stefan Ruzowitzky and Marcus Nispel were once in talks.

Set during Bram Stoker's original "Dracula," the script focuses on the ship that transports the vampire from Transylvania. In the original text, the vessel arrives in England with the entire crew missing, save the captain, whose body is found tied to the helm. In the script, screenwriter Bragi Schut is said to take an approach akin to Ridley Scott's original Alien, telling the story from the point of view of the Russian crew and treating the vampire as Scott did the sci-fi terror.

Though he most recently directed an episode of "Game of Thrones", Marshall is best known for big screen films like The Descent, Dog Soldiers and Centurion.

New International Character Posters for The Amazing Spider-Man

Source: Latino Review, ComingSoon

May 11, 2012

Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man is now roughly seven weeks away and the marketing campaign is in full gear worldwide, which is why we now have some new international character posters featuring Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker, Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans' Dr. Curt Connors, which you can see in all their glory below (we've previously seen low-res versions of these posters). The posters also flaunt the fact that other countries will be having a chance to see the movie four days before people in North America.

Sam Claflin Joins Jared Harris in The Quiet Ones

Source: ComingSoon

May 11, 2012

Simon Oakes, Vice-Chairman of Exclusive Media and President & CEO of Hammer and Guy East and Nigel Sinclair, Co-Chairmen of Exclusive Media, Hammer’s parent company, announced today that Sam Claflin (Snow White and the Huntsman, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) has signed on to star opposite Jared Harris in The Quiet Ones.

Claflin will play Bryan McNeil in The Quiet Ones, a supernatural thriller/horror to be directed by John Pogue (Quarantine 2) which James Gay-Rees (Senna, Exit Through the Gift Shop) will produce in association with TPSC Films. With the story and original screenplay by Tom DeVille, revisions by Craig Rosenberg, Oren Moverman and most recently John Pogue, the film is currently in pre-production and will start shooting in June 2012 in the UK.

Inspired by true events, The Quiet Ones tells the story of an unorthodox, but charismatic Professor (Harris) who uses controversial methods and leads his best students off the grid to take part in a dangerous experiment: to create a poltergeist from negative human energy.

Exclusive Media's President of Worldwide Production & Acquisitions, Tobin Armbrust, is overseeing production alongside Director of Development, Shira Rockowitz. TPSC Film's President, Steven Chester Prince, is a producer on the project for the newly formed independent film division of The Traveling Picture Show Company.

Alex Walton, Exclusive Media’s President of International Sales and Distribution, will be selling international rights to the film at the upcoming Marché Du Film in Cannes.

First Official Look at Scarlett Johansson in Under the Skin

Source: ComingSoon

May 11, 2012

Film Nation has debuted, via their Twitter feed, the very first official look at Scarlett Johansson from Jonathan Glazer's Under the Skin. We've previously seen the actress in unofficial set photos posted late last year.

In the film, Johansson plays an alien on earth, disguised as the perfect aesthetic form of a mesmerizing woman. She scours remote highways and desolate scenery looking to use her greatest weapon to snare human prey -- her voracious sexuality. She is deadly efficient, but over time becomes drawn to and changed by the complexity of life on earth. With this new found humanity and weakening alien resolve, she finds herself on a collision course with her own kind.

Glazer (Sexy Beast) co-wrote the film with Walter Campbell.

Luke Wilson to Lead Karyn Kusama's The Invitation

Source: ComingSoon

May 11, 2012

XYZ Films has announced that the thriller The Invitation will begin principal photography in Los Angeles in the summer of 2012. Directed by Karyn Kusama (Jennifer's Body, Girlfight), the film was scripted by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi (Clash of the Titans, R.I.P.D.) and will star Luke Wilson ("Enlightened") and an ensemble cast that includes Zachary Quinto (Star Trek), Topher Grace (Traffic) and Johnny Galecki ("The Big Bang Theory").

On a dark night, Will (Luke Wilson) is invited to his estranged ex-wife's dinner party. Over the course of the evening, he is gripped by mounting evidence that something insidious has taken hold of his ex-wife, and that she and her new friends have a mysterious and horrifying agenda. By the end of the night, the ramifications of what happens in this house will spread far beyond its doors.

XYZ Films will produce alongside Martha Griffin (Girlfight) and Hay and Manfredi.

Danny DeVito Completes Production on Apocalyptic Thriller

Source: ComingSoon

May 11, 2012

Shangri-La Entertainment announced today that Danny DeVito has wrapped shooting on his apocalyptic thriller and is now in post-production.

Directed by DeVito, the currently untitled project stars William Fichtner (The Dark Knight, Black Hawk Down), Lance Reddick, ("The Wire," "Fringe"), and Constance Zimmer ("Entourage").

Confirming the announcement, DeVito commented: "I was truly excited about getting behind the camera on this one. It is my first foray into the thriller genre and I've enjoyed the challenge of making an 89 minute edge-of-your-seater..."

The film revolves around a wounded cop, a wounded murderer and a sultry nurse. The three are thrust together, as war rages outside the only possible safe house, an abandoned City Hospital. With no doctors and only a few poor decrepit souls as witnesses, it becomes a rats' maze as the antagonistic trio get separated, and we find out the real reason they are there.

From Newsarama:

Marvel Teases THE FIRST X-MEN For August 2012

By Newsarama Staff
posted: 11 May 2012 05:19 pm ET

Marvel is back at the teaser game ahead of August 2012 solicitations, with a bit of an eXtreme eXample of what a teaser can be. You see, this is just three words "The First X-Men," teasing a new series coming in August. No image, no creative team hints, and even the official text from Marvel (below) doesn't offer up much more, aside from the fact that the reveal will come next Monday evening.

So, what will this series entail? Well, historically the first X-Men are Jean Grey, Cyclops, Beast, Iceman, and Angel, but chances are this isn't quite that simple. After all, those five and their origin has been told and retold several times, including in the recent X-Men: Season One.

The only hint available at this point is that Marvel's email to the press about a 5 p.m. conference call this coming Monday — the same time The First X-Men is set to be revealed — said that both "an industry legend and fan favorite creator" would be on the line. Betwen X-Men and "industry legend," we're going to go ahead and guess that this possibly could mean a return to Marvel from long-time writer Chris Claremont.

Tune in right here Monday for the answers, and until then speculate away!

The First X-Men

Coming this August.

Julianne Moore Confirmed As Carrie's Mom, Actress Circles Sue Snell

by ShockTillYouDrop

May 11, 2012

When the question of: Who will play Carrie's mom in the Carrie remake? came about, it was reportedly down to Julianne Moore and Jodie Foster.  Not long ago, we told you Moore was offered the part and, today, Deadline has confirmed that Moore is, in fact, going to co-star alongside Chloe Moretz, who is playing Carrie White.  The site adds one more name to the mix - a potential actress to play Sue Snell.

According to Deadline, Gabriella Wilde of The Three Musketeers is in talks to take on the role.

Amy Irving played Sue in Brian De Palma's film and Kandyse McClure (Battlestar Galactica) took on the part in the 2002 made-for-TV flick.  Shooting begins on Carrie next month under the direction of Kimberly Peirce.

Michelle Monaghan Joins The Coup

Source: ComingSoon

May 11, 2012

Michelle Monaghan (Source Code, Gone Baby Gone) has joined Owen Wilson (Midnight in Paris, Wedding Crashers) and Pierce Brosnan (The Thomas Crown Affair, GoldenEye) in The Coup, a thriller centered on an American family which moves to Southeast Asia and finds themselves entangled in a violent coup with merciless rebels attacking the city. John Erick Dowdle (Devil, Quarantine) will direct from a script he co-wrote with his brother Drew Dowdle.

Monaghan will play Wilson’s wife, Annie, in the action thriller, which is scheduled to begin production in October.

The Dowdle brothers said: “Michelle is an exceptional actor who always brings a depth of compassion and warmth to her characters. She and Owen Wilson will be the kind of screen couple you just can't help but root for.”

Crime Scene Pictures’ Adam Ripp and Rob Paris are financing and have teamed up with Steve Alexander and Drew Dowdle to produce.
