The Joker Returns to Wreak Havoc in DC Universe Online
by
SuperHeroHype
May 08, 2012
Sony Online Entertainment today announced a fourth DLC for
DC Universe Online
will be available in June for download on the PC and PlayStation 3. Here's the full press release:
The battle between heroes and villains in DC Universe™ Online (DCUO) continues as Sony Online Entertainment LLC (SOE) today announced that The Last Laugh, the fourth downloadable content (DLC) pack for DCUO, will be available in June for download on the PC and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system. The Last Laugh will pit players against each other in high-intensity multiplayer brawls, feature an all-new weapon, and introduce new Light-Powered Legends PvP characters.
"We created this DLC purely for the players that like to take the fight to each other in DCUO's amazing PvP combat," said Jens Andersen, creative director on DC Universe Online. "Our community has continuously asked for more multiplayer action in DCUO, and we wanted to deliver content that fully meets their expectations and pushes PvP to another level. The Last Laugh is the first DLC that we've created that focuses almost entirely on player versus player battles, and it adds an exciting new element as some of DC's greatest heroes and villains join to fight alongside you. Players will have even more opportunities to prove to the world whether heroes or villains will be triumphant."
The Last Laugh will include an all-new weapon, hours of multiplayer gameplay in the Safe Houses and Headquarters, and new Legends PvP characters:
- The Shield - Players can unleash this vicious new weapon to bash their opponents, or hurl it to take them down from a distance.
- Safe House Battles - No one is safe now that heroes and villains can invade each other's Safe Houses in these four on four battles:
-- Graviton Technology Recovery - Players will be tasked with unscrambling teleporter codes that The Joker has mixed into fragments. Located at the - Watchtower or Hall of Doom, players must retrieve eight code fragments to successfully rebuild useable teleporter codes.
-- The Rescue - Heroes must rescue hostages, while Villains will be freeing arrested criminals from opposing Safe Houses.
-- Bomb Disposal - Thanks to The Joker, the encryption on the Email terminals has changed and can only be bypassed by the robot he provided. Players must gain control of the robot and either upload the data to their HQ or add new encryption to keep their enemies and The Joker away from it.
- Headquarter Battles - In this two-part crusade, 16 players -- eight heroes and eight villains -- will face off for the ultimate player reward. At the request of Superman, heroes must take over the Hall of Doom, while villains, egged on by The Joker, will breach the Watchtower in order to create chaos.
- Legends Characters - Combat illuminates with the introduction of the first light-powered Legends for multiplayer combat. Players will soon have access to Kilowog, a Green Lantern, and Amon Sur, a member of the Sinestro Corps.
DCUO's The Last Laugh DLC pack will be accessible for free for the game's Legendary members and available for purchase for Free and Premium players via the PlayStation®Network in-game Marketplace, and on the PC via the
DCUniverseOnline.com
website.

Disney CEO Bob Iger on a
Marvel's The Avengers
Sequel
by
SuperHeroHype
May 08, 2012
Still at the start of its rapidly-increasing box office take,
Marvel's The Avengers
is already set to be followed next year by
Iron Man 3
and
Thor 2
with
Captain America 2
following in 2014.
Today, Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger spoke with
CNBC
about the massive success of
Marvel's The Avengers
and what it means for the future of the cinematic Marvel Universe.
"The Avengers isn't just a film,"
says Iger.
"It's a franchise from our perspective. Obviously, it was helped a lot by the success of the 'Iron Man' movies and of 'Thor' and 'Captain America'. From 'The Avengers' we get a chance to make 'Thor 2' and 'Captain America 2' and 'Iron Man 3' and hopefully another 'Avengers' movie. So this one film that is immensely successful... is going to get a number of other films and franchises."
In addition to the films he lists, the studio has announced plans for an
as-of-yet-undisclosed project
to be released on May 16, 2014. There's no confirmation yet on whether or not that will be a sequel or if it might be based on a new Marvel Universe character.
"We have an ability to leverage what was a very fun film done by a great group of filmmakers into something much bigger for the company,"
he continues,
"and the effect will be prolonged and that's very, very exciting for us."

Cole Hauser Joins
A Good Day to Die Hard
Source:
ComingSoon
May 8, 2012
20th Century Fox's 2013 sequel,
A Good Day to Die Hard
, has lined another actor in Cole Hauser,
Deadline
reports. He'll play a villain by the name of Collins.
A Good Day to Die Hard
puts Bruce Willis' John McClane on an international stage -- truly a NYC fish out of water in Moscow -- and introduces his estranged son Jack (Jai Courtney). An apple that has not fallen far from the tree, Jack may even be more of a hardass than his father. Despite their differences, they must work together to keep each other alive – and the world safe for democracy.
Hauser, who has previously acted alongside Willis in
Hart's War
and
Tears of the Sun
, also joins Sebastian Koch and Yulia Snigir in the February 14th, 2013 release.

Sly Stallone's
Bullet
Heads to February 2013
Source:
Box Office Mojo
,
ComingSoon
May 8, 2012
Sylvester Stallone's action-thriller
Bullet to the Head
(formerly "Headshot"), directed by the legendary Walter Hill (
The Warriors
,
48 Hours
) was supposed to come out this year, last month in fact, but it was then mysteriously removed from the release schedule by Warner Bros. a couple months back. It looks like the studio has found a new release date and it's February 1, 2013, going up against Summit Entertainment's zombie romance
Warm Bodies
.
This also means that Stallone will have a movie just two weeks after and two weeks before movies by his co-stars of the upcoming
The Expendables 2
, since Arnold Schwarzenegger's own thriller
The Last Stand
comes out on January 18, and then Bruce Willis' fifth excursion as Detective John McClane in
A Good Day to Die Hard
comes out two weeks later.

From
IGN
:
Kick-Ass 2 Is Happening
Sequel moving from Lionsgate to Universal.
May 8, 2012
Matthew Vaughn is in talks with Universal to bring
Kick-Ass 2
to the studio. The first film was distributed by Lionsgate.
Heat Vision
reports that Vaughn has "handpicked" Jeff Wadlow (
Never Back Down
) to direct the film, which is of course based on the Mark Millar-John Romita, Jr. comic series. Vaughn scripted and will produce the follow-up -- but not direct as he did on the original -- as he's no doubt busy with
X-Men: First Class 2
.
Kick-Ass 2
will be based on the comic-book miniseries of the same name as well as the spinoff book Hit-Girl, which hits next month.
Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass), Chloe Moretz (Hit-Girl) and Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Red Mist) are all expected to return for the sequel, which has a September production start set.

The Avengers
Writer/Director Joss Whedon Thanks His Fans
by
SuperHeroHype
May 09, 2012
After the record-breaking opening weekend of
Marvel's The Avengers
, writer and director Joss Whedon has posted the following note to his fans at
Whedonesque
:
The Purple. IN WHICH the guy who comes before "Esque" shares his deep depth, and then links you to a vid of him as a poop coach.
"YeahbuhWHUH?"
--Kitty Pryde
Dear Friends,
Well, it's been quite a weekend. Someday, long from now, I will even have an emotional reaction to it, like a person would. I can't wait! But before I become blinded by this "emotion" experience, there's a few things I'd like to say. Well, type.
People have told me that this matters, that my life is about to change. I am sure that is true. And change is good -- change is exciting. I think -- not to jinx it -- that I may finally be recognized at Comiccon. Imagine! Also, with my percentage of "the Avengers" gross, I can afford to buy... [gets call from agent. Weeps manfully. Resumes typing.] ...a fine meal. But REALLY fine, with truffles and s#!+. And I can get a studio to finance my dream project, the reboot of "Air Bud" that we all feel is so long overdue. (He could play Jai Alai! Think of the emotional ramifications of JAI ALAI!!!!)
What doesn't change is anything that matters. What doesn't change is that I've had the smartest, most loyal, most passionate, most articulate group of -- I'm not even gonna say fans. I'm going with "peeps" -- that any cult oddity such as my bad self could have dreamt of. When almost no one was watching, when people probably should have STOPPED watching, I've had three constants: my family and friends, my collaborators (often the same), and y'all. A lot of stories have come out about my "dark years", and how I'm "unrecognized"... I love these stories, because they make me seem super-important, but I have never felt the darkness (and I'm ALL about my darkness) that they described. Because I have so much. I have people, in my life, on this site, in places I've yet to discover, that always made me feel the truth of success: an artist and an audience communicating. Communicating to the point of collaborating. I've thought, "maybe I'm over; maybe I've said my piece". But never with fear. Never with rancor. Because of y'all. Because you knew me when. If you think topping a box office record compares with someone telling you your work helped them through a rough time, you're probably new here. (For the record, and despite my inhuman distance from the joy-joy of it: topping a box office record is super-dope. I'm an alien, not a robot.) So this is me, saying thank you. All of you. You've taken as much guff for loving my work as I have for over-writing it, and you deserve, in this our time of streaming into the main, to crow. To glow. To crow and go "I told you so", to those Joe Blows not in the know. (LAST time I hire Dr. Seuss to punch my posts up. Yeesh!) Point being, you deserve some honor, AND you deserves some FAQs answered. So please welcome my old friend and certainly not-on-my-payroll reporter/flunky, Rutherford D. Actualperson!
RDA: So good to see you, young Joss! is it possible you've gotten more attractive since we last spoke, and less fungal in odor?
JW: Thanks for noticing. Let's talk.
RDA: "the Scavengers" is a huge success! Does this mean you have changed the very fabric of existence?
JW: Dude, it's just a movie. Also, yes.
RTA: I've seen a lot of a talk about "the Availers" vs "the Dark Knight Rises". How will you feel if you're eclipsed by Nolan?
JW: I'm glad I made you ask that. I will feel sad. But let's look at the bigger picture, and I can't say this enough: THIS IS NOT A ZERO SUM GAME. Our successes, whoever has the mostest, are a boon to each other. We're in the business of proving that superhero movies aren't just eye-candy (they're eye-TRUFFLES!). People seem intent on setting us against each other, and though I'm proud to be Woody Strode to Nolan's Kirk Douglas, I think they're missing the point. Whatever TDKR does on its first weekend, the only stat that matters to me is the ticket I'M definitely buying. Nolan and Raimi INVENTED the true superhero flick, yo. (Special mention to Jon Favreau and James Gunn.) Happy to be in the mix.
RTA: What does this mean for your upcoming slate of tiny independent films/Internet shenanigans? Will they fall by the wayside?
JW: There may be new ideas realized -- I always leave myself open to that -- but my commitment to Wastelanders and Dr H.2 does not waver. Those stories bubble on my stove.
RTA: And TV?
JW: TV is my great love. To tell stories with that alacrity, intensity, and immediacy... Nothing quite like it. I imagine it's not dissimilar to the feeling great poker players have: "Here's what I got, here's where I'm going... How to trick everybody into thinking I know what I'm doing?" [Full disclosure : Joss hates poker. He is probably talking about bridge. But it should apply nonetheless.].
RTA: What message would you give fans of "the Lavenders" who are not so familiar with your previous work?
JW: "Cabin In the Woods": still in (some) theaters!
RTA: Is 'the Ravengers" a perfect movie? It did get an A+ cinemascore...
JW: There are very few perfect movies. "The Court Jester", "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", "Godfather" I & II... The list does not go on and on. "The Avengers" is notably IMperfect, which makes its success mean so much more to me -- because it's striking a chord that matters MORE than its obvious flaws. Like the team, it appears to be more than the sun of its parts. Boo-yah!
RTA: What do you feel is the greatest achievement of "the Avoiders"?
JW: Getting "mewling quim" out there to the masses. Also, Hulk.
RTA: Anyone in particular you'd like to thank?
JW: [Reads from notecard]. I couldn't have done this myself. Part of this Saturn Award belongs to Jeremy Latcham, Kevin Feige, and the fine Marvel folk... But the secret ingredient is my closest peeps: J-Mo, who did uncredited punch-up work (carrier battle, yo!), Z-bro, Drew "I am Loki only taller and foppier" Goddard, and Kai, all of whom worked the story with me. Without them (and Jeremy), I'd still be figuring out how the Wasp fits in to this, and where to put Red Hulk.
RTA: What's next for Joss "finally got it right for a change" Whedon?
JW: Can we not call me that?
RTA: Just deal. Whut up?
JW: I really think we should discuss that nickname, but I'm finishing "Much Ado About Nothing" this month. If you liked "the Avengers", you'll love... I can't. It's Shakespeare. And not in the park. I hope it gets watched.
RTA: Any message to your precious "Whedonesk?"
JW: Whedonettes?
RTA: Weeble-eque?
JW: I'm not aware of that group.
RTA: Didn't they know you when?
JW: I'm not sure who you mean. I'm discarding my old fans so I can concentrate on fame, Euro-trash guy-jewelry and my precious "Air Bud" reboot. But, dude, don't print that!
RTA: You have my word.
So, that's our post! Hope you enjoyed it. Hope you'll continue to carry the banner even though other people may have joined the parade. (Kind of a gay pride/Newsies vibe: sentence accomplished!) Hope you understand how I feel. Cliff notes: grateful.
"Here's to us. Who's like us? Damn few"
-- Stephen Sondheim, "Merrily We Roll Along".
"It took a dog playing Jai Alai to teach us humanity!"
--Me, in that awesome film I'm gonna make.

Marion Cotillard Says She's Not Talia al Ghul in
The Dark Knight Rises
by
SuperHeroHype
May 09, 2012
Despite the many rumors, Marion Cotillard tells
The Hollywood Reporter
that she does not play Talia al Ghul in Christopher Nolan's
The Dark Knight Rises
. The interview with the actress reads as follows:
The actress started filming Knight in June 2011, working on and off until the fall in locations including Los Angeles, New York and Pittsburgh. She says there were long gaps when she wasn't needed: "It was a very, very small role."
Otherwise, Cotillard is coy about the picture, whose storyline has fueled pages of Internet speculation. All she'll confirm is that, contrary to some fans' belief, she does not play Talia, the vengeful daughter of Liam Neeson's character, Ra's Al Ghul (who also appeared in Batman Begins), and that she takes the role of Miranda Tate, an ecologically minded businesswoman who "is fascinated by Wayne Enterprises. They go through difficulties, and she wants to help provide the world clean energies. She's a good guy." But does she stay that way? "Yes," she insists.
You can check out the full interview at the link above.
The Dark Knight Rises
opens in theaters and IMAX on July 20.
