First Photos From Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained

Source: ComingSoon

April 26, 2012

Entertainment Weekly has debuted these first two photos from Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, coming to theaters on December 25. The anticipated film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, Sacha Baron Cohen, Gerald McRaney, Dennis Christopher, Kurt Russell, Laura Cayouette, M.C. Gainey, Don Johnson, Kerry Washington, Anthony LaPaglia, RZA, Tom Wopat, James Remar, James Russo and Todd Allen. It is described as follows:

Set in the South two years before the Civil War, "Django Unchained" stars Academy Award®-winner Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award®-winner Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles – dead or alive.

Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South’s most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago.

Django and Schultz’s search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Academy Award®-nominee Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of “Candyland,” an infamous plantation where slaves are groomed by trainer Ace Woody (Kurt Russell) to battle each other for sport. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Academy Award®-nominee Samuel L. Jackson), Candie's trusted house slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival...

Production Begins on The Smurfs 2

Source: ComingSoon

April 26, 2012

Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation announced today that production has begun on the live-action/computer animated hybrid 3D family comedy The Smurfs 2, the sequel to the 2011 worldwide hit that took in over $560 million at the worldwide box office.

Returning from the first film for an all-new adventure that takes the Smurfs to Europe are Director Raja Gosnell, Producer Jordan Kerner, Executive Producer Ezra Swerdlow, and stars Neil Patrick Harris as Patrick Winslow, Jayma Mays as Grace Winslow, Sofia Vergara as Odile, and Hank Azaria as Gargamel. Brendan Gleeson joins the cast as Patrick Winslow's stepfather, Victor Doyle. Behind the microphone, as the voices of the Smurfs, all of the principal voice cast members will reprise their roles, including Katy Perry as Smurfette, Jonathan Winters as Papa Smurf, Alan Cumming as Gutsy, Fred Armisen as Brainy, George Lopez as Grouchy and Anton Yelchin as Clumsy; in addition, John Oliver, who took a cameo voice role as Vanity Smurf in the first film, returns to voice his now primary role. Additionally behind the microphone, Christina Ricci and JB Smoove will voice the new Smurf-like naughty characters, Vexy and Hackus, respectively.

The screenplay is by J. David Stem & David N. Weiss and Karey Kirkpatrick and Jay Scherick & David Ronn, based on the characters and works of Peyo. The Smurfs 2 is scheduled to be released in U.S. theaters on July 31, 2013.

In this sequel to the hybrid live action/animated family blockbuster comedy The Smurfs, the evil wizard Gargamel creates a couple of mischievous Smurf-like creatures called the Naughties that he hopes will let him harness the all-powerful, magical Smurf-essence. But when he discovers that only a real Smurf can give him what he wants — and only a secret spell that Smurfette knows can turn the Naughties into real Smurfs — Gargamel kidnaps Smurfette and brings her to Paris, where he has been winning the adoration of millions as the world's greatest sorcerer. It's up to Papa, Clumsy, Grouchy, and Vanity to return to our world, reunite with their human friends Patrick and Grace Winslow, and rescue her! Will Smurfette, who has always felt different from the other Smurfs, find a new connection with the Naughties Vexy and Hackus – or will the Smurfs convince her that their love for her is True Blue?

Commenting on the announcement, Kerner said, "We've brought the entire live-action and voice cast into the sequel. It's a real thrill to 'get the Smurf village back together' for another adventure. The same holds true for the crew. We are so deep in talent we know a fine film will result. It's like visiting with old friends – just some slightly smaller than others."

Many crew members from the original film are reuniting, including Director of Photography Phil Méheux, Production Designer Bill Boes, Editor Sabrina Plisco, Costume Designer Rita Ryack and Visual Effects Supervisor Richard R. Hoover. The visual effects and animation are by Sony Pictures Imageworks Inc.

Fox's Rothman Talks X-Men Sequel Release, Fantastic Four

by SuperHeroHype

April 27, 2012

MTV chatted with Twentieth Century Fox Co-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Tom Rothman, who talked about both the sequel to X-Men: First Class and the Fantastic Four reboot.

He says that director Matthew Vaughn is definitely back for the X-Men: First Class follow-up and that they'll start shooting in January of 2013 for a release either Christmas 2013 or Summer 2014. Vaughn is currently developing the script with Simon Kinberg and Jane Goldman, he says.

Rothman also mentioned that he does indeed think that Chronicle director Josh Trank will come on board to develop the Fantastic Four reboot.

I am guessing that "oh no honey, I was just checking out her costume" is the most said sentence by married men at a con.

I am guessing that "oh no honey, I was just checking out her costume" is the most said sentence by married men at a con.

Eons ago, I was at the mall with my first wife.  She caught me checking out a girl's ass.  I gave my wife a disapproving look and said, "She really shouldn't wear those pants."  She agreed with me, and all was well.

So after you dropped the first wife and hooked up with the girl, did you change your opinion?

Hammer Plans Winchester Mystery House Feature

Source: ComingSoon

April 27, 2012

In the first deal of its kind, the San Jose, California based Winchester Mystery House considered the “world’s most haunted house” is authorizing Hammer, an Exclusive Media company, the use of its unique property for a feature film based on its legendary story. Hammer has optioned all rights to develop and produce the feature film with Imagination Design Works (IDW) and Nine/8 Entertainment, it was announced today by Simon Oakes, Vice-Chairman of Exclusive Media and President & CEO of Hammer, and Guy East and Nigel Sinclair, Co-Chairmen of Exclusive Media.

Production on the supernatural horror film currently in development will be overseen by Exclusive Media’s Tobin Armbrust, President of Worldwide Production and Acquisitions, and Shira Rockowitz, Director of Development and Production. Brett Tomberlin and Antonia Lianos will produce for Imagination Design Works, Inc along with Andrew Trapani and Brian Gilbert for Nine/8 Entertainment.

"The Winchester House has a rich and compelling history. The story behind how it was built has attracted a great deal of attention over the years and we are excited to bring that mythology to film," said Tobin Armbrust. "We are also thrilled, and terrified, that the House has allowed us to film on the premises."

"We are extremely excited to be partnering with Exclusive Media to bring the story of the Winchester Mystery House to a global audience. For many years, the mystique and history of this unique venue, and its owner Sarah Winchester, could be experienced only by those visiting the site. Now, with a film shot in and around the House, Sarah's spirit will be brought back to life, and the audience will see first-hand this stunning and bizarre house," said Brett Tomberlin, President, Imagination Design Works.

The Winchester Mystery House has a startling history and attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists annually. Popular belief holds that Sarah Winchester, heiress to the Winchester Rifle fortune, was convinced she was haunted by the spirits of those killed by "the gun that won the west." Following a Medium’s advice, Sarah built a massive house in Northern California to appease the spirits. For the next 38 years, she never stopped building believing that if she continued, she would live forever, and if she stopped, she would die. Known as the "house built for the spirits," there have been many inexplicable ghost sightings and to this day, visitors share their terrifying stories of having been in the presence of these departed souls who continue to roam the grounds of the intricate and enigmatic house.

Imagination Design Works, Inc. organizes the famous “Fright Nights," a special ticketed event held at the Winchester Mystery House during the month of October, providing a true Halloween experience to visitors.

Andrew Trapani of Nine/8 Entertainment previously produced The Haunting in Connecticut for Lionsgate. Released in Spring 2009 and starring Oscar Nominee Virginia Madsen, Haunting opened as the #2 film in the U.S., generating over $23M at the box office in its opening weekend of release and is now amongst the top grossing films in Lionsgate history. Trapani also recently produced The Chosen One, an animated film for the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers.

Upcoming projects include executive producing the TV series, “Wallace," based on the life of Scotsman William Wallace, created and written by Mick Davis, the original supernatural thriller Candle, and a biopic about famed auto-maker John DeLorean. Trapani began his entertainment career as a video game designer and producer for Crystal Dynamics, Inc where he oversaw the development and production of some of the first Sony Playstation games.

Brian Gilbert most recently produced Warner Bros. Premiere/Cartoon Network's "Scooby Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster" and "Scooby Doo! The Mystery Begins." His past film credits include the horror film Wrong Turn starring Desmond Harrington, Eliza Dushku and Jeremy Sisto released by 20th Century Fox and nominated for Best Film at the Sitges Catalonian International Film Festival, as well as The Deaths of Ian Stone starring Mike Vogel, Jaime Murray and Christina Cole released by After Dark Films. Gilbert is also executive producer alongside Trapini on "Wallace" and produced as well as directed The Chosen One.

Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book Heads to Disney

Source: ComingSoon

April 27, 2012

Walt Disney Pictures has secured the rights to Neil Gaiman's 2008 Newberry Medal winner The Graveyard Book, Deadline is reporting. Coincidentally, the news arrives just moments after a report that Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book is up for a new adaptation at Warner Bros. That 1894 text was the inspiration for Gaiman's tale of a young boy raised in a graveyard, officially described as follows:

Bod is an unusual boy who inhabits an unusual place-he's the only living resident of a graveyard. Raised from infancy by the ghosts, werewolves, and other cemetery denizens, Bod has learned the antiquated customs of his guardians' time as well as their timely ghostly teachings-like the ability to Fade. Can a boy raised by ghosts face the wonders and terrors of the worlds of both the living and the dead? And then there are things like ghouls that aren't really one thing or the other.

Gaiman's work has previously been brought to the screen with Matthew Vaughn's Stardust in 2007 and Henry Selick's Coraline in 2008. Gaiman's bestseller American Gods is, meanwhile, in development as an HBO series with Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman's Playtone producing.

The Graveyard Book was previously targeted for the screen with Neil Jordan writing and directing. Though there's no confirmation as of yet, Jordan is very likely no longer attached to the project.

David Koepp in Talks to Draft Snow White and the Huntsman Sequel

Source: ComingSoon

April 27, 2012

There's still more than a month to go before Universal Pictures' Snow White and the Huntsman hits theaters on June 1st, but Deadline is reporting that the studio is in talks with David Koepp to begin work on scripting a sequel.

In the first part of the epic action-adventure, Kristen Stewart (The Twilight Saga) plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Charlize Theron) who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with Hemsworth's huntsman, who was dispatched to kill her.

Previous reports suggest that ideas for a sequel have been on the table for some time and that one area of focus would be on Chris Hemsworth's Huntsman character.

Koepp is one of the more prolific screenwriters working today and has worked on films like Mission: Impossible, Spider-Man and Panic Room.

Julianne Moore Offered Carrie Role

Source: ComingSoon

April 27, 2012

Julianne Moore has been offered the role of Margaret White in Kim Peirce's upcoming remake of the Stephen King novel, Carrie, Deadline reports. Margaret is the mother of the titular Carrie White, who will be played by Chloe Moretz.

Released in 1974, Carrie was King's first published novel and tells the story of a high school girl who, through telekinetic powers, takes revenge on peers that have mocked her.

Most famously adapted for the screen by Brian De Palma in 1976, Carrie received a sequel in 1999 and a made-for-TV adaptation in 2002. The story was also the basis for a famously-troubled Broadway adaptation in 1988.

The new version of Carrie, to be scripted by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, is said to be less a remake of the De Palma film and more a re-adaptation of the original text.

Moore recently starred in the drama Being Flynn and is set to appear in Joseph Gordon-Levitt's still-untitled directorial debut. She would step into some big shoes with the Carrie role; Piper Laurie received an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Margaret White in the 1976 film.
