The Dark Knight Rises Tie-In Novel to be Released Same Day as the Movie

by SuperHeroHype

April 16, 2012

Titan Books announced today that the official tie-in novel for The Dark Knight Rises will be released on July 20th, the same date as the movie's release. Here's the announcement:

Warner Bros. Pictures' and Legendary Pictures' "The Dark Knight Rises," the much-anticipated final chapter in writer-director Christopher Nolan's film trilogy featuring the legendary DC Comics character Batman, will be adapted into an official tie-in novel written by award-winning author Greg Cox and published by Titan Books, under a licensing agreement with Warner Bros. Consumer Products.

Novelist Greg Cox is no stranger to Batman or the DC Comics Universe, having written the official novelizations for such major comic book storylines as Infinite Crisis (2006), 52 (2007), Countdown (2009), and Final Crisis (2010). He has produced numerous bestselling adaptations and original novels based on Star Trek, Underworld, Warehouse 13, and other popular properties. His original novel Terminator Salvation: Cold Warwon the 2010 Scribe Award for tie-in fiction, and CSI: Headhunter took the award in 2009.

"Batman is one of the most iconic characters of popular culture," Titan Publisher Nick Landau said. "We're tremendously excited to work with Warner Bros. on the novelization of ‘The Dark Knight Rises,' especially since it is the culmination of everything Christopher Nolan has done with his amazing trilogy. This is a part of motion picture history."

The publishing of Titan Books' The Dark Knight Rises is timed to reach consumers worldwide on the same day as the Warner Bros. Pictures release. "The Dark Knight Rises" opens in theatres on Friday, July 20, 2012.

Emily Blunt Joining Tom Cruise in All You Need Is Kill

by SuperHeroHype

April 16, 2012

Variety reports that Emily Blunt is in talks to join Tom Cruise in director Doug Liman's All You Need Is Kill. The film is an adaptation of the Japanese novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka which is described as follows:

There's one thing worse than dying. It's coming back to do it again and again... When the alien Gitai invade, Keiji Kiriya is just one of many raw recruits shoved into a suit of battle armor and sent out to kill. Keiji dies on the battlefield, only to find himself reborn each morning to fight and die again and again. On the 158th iteration though, he sees something different, something out of place: the female soldier known as the Bitch of War. Is the Bitch the key to Keiji's escape, or to his final death?

Blunt will play another soldier who fights alongside Cruise.

Erwin Stoff, Tom Lassally and Jason Hoffs are producing through 3 Arts Entertainment. Dante Harper wrote the script with Joby Harold.

The First Photo of Aaron Eckhart in I, Frankenstein!

by SuperHeroHype

April 16, 2012

The film now in production in Victoria, Australia, the very first photo from the set of Stuart Beattie's I, Frankenstein is now online, courtesy of photographer Pablo Hassan, who captured Aaron Eckhart in full makeup as the creature, Adam.

Also starring Socratis Otto, Yvonne Strahovski and Miranda Otto, the film tells the modern-day tale of Dr. Frankenstein's creature, who nearly centuries after his "birth", has found himself in a gothic city, caught up in a war between two immortal clans.

Though based on the comic by Kevin Grevioux, leading man Aaron Eckhart recently explained that Mary Shelley's original novel is where he's focusing his attention to build the character.

I, Frankenstein hits theaters on February 22, 2013.

Jared Harris to Star in Hammer's The Quiet Ones

Source: ComingSoon

April 16, 2012

Simon Oakes, Vice-Chairman of Exclusive Media and President & CEO of Hammer and Guy East and Nigel Sinclair, Co-Chairmen of Exclusive Media, Hammer’s parent company, announced today that Jared Harris has signed on to star as Professor Joseph Coupland in The Quiet Ones.

The Quiet Ones is a supernatural thriller/horror to be directed by John Pogue (Quarantine 2) which James Gay-Rees (Senna, Exit Through the Gift Shop) will produce in association with TPSC Films. With the story and original screenplay by Tom DeVille, revisions by Craig Rosenberg, Oren Moverman and most recently John Pogue, the film is currently in pre-production and will start shooting in June 2012 in the UK.

Inspired by true events, The Quiet Ones tells the story of an unorthodox, but charismatic professor who uses controversial methods and leads his best students off the grid to take part in a dangerous experiment: to create a poltergeist from negative human energy.

The Quiet Ones marks Hammer’s next production after the worldwide box office hit, The Woman in Black, starring Daniel Radcliffe, which has taken over $120 million at the box-office worldwide to date.

Jared Harris recently starred in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and "Mad Men." He will next be seen in Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, currently in post-production.

Exclusive Media’s President of Worldwide Production & Acquisitions, Tobin Armbrust, is overseeing production alongside Director of Development, Shira Rockowitz. Alex Walton, President of International Sales and Distribution, is handling international sales. TPSC Film's President, Steven Chester Prince, is a producer on the project for the newly formed independent film division of The Traveling Picture Show Company.

John Pogue said: "Jared Harris is an extraordinarily talented actor and I'm thrilled that he will be playing the key role of Professor Joseph Coupland, who led his most ambitious students in a notorious 1974 experiment to create a poltergeist. Jared has the perfect blend of charisma, intelligence and wit that the part of Professor Coupland demands, and I'm excited to watch him bring the role to life."

Simon Oakes, President & CEO of Hammer and Vice Chairman of Exclusive Media said: “'The Quiet Ones' is set to be an incredibly chilling and sinister picture that we are proud to be a part of. It’s another unique horror movie which we believe will appeal to audiences around the world.”

Filming Starts on Vincenzo Natali's Haunter

Source: ComingSoon

April 16, 2012

Principal photography on Vincenzo Natali's (Splice, Cube) new feature, Haunter, from Copperheart Entertainment, starring Abigail Breslin (Zombieland, Rango, Little Miss Sunshine), Stephen McHattie (300, Watchmen, Immortals), Peter Outerbridge (Silent Hill: Revelation, Lucky Number Slevin), Michelle Nolden (RED, The Time Traveler's Wife) and David Hewlett (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) has begun.

Haunter, directed by Vincenzo Natali from a screenplay written by Brian King (Cypher, Night Train), is produced by Steven Hoban (Splice, "The Ginger Snaps" trilogy), and co-produced by Mark Smith. Principal photography will run from April 16 until May 19, 2012 in Toronto and Brantford. The film's release is slated for 2013.

In this reverse ghost story, teenage Lisa (Breslin) and her family died in 1986 under sinister circumstances but remain trapped in their house, unable to move on. Lisa must reach out from beyond the grave to help her present-day, living counterpart, Olivia, avoid the same fate Lisa and her family suffered.

"'Haunter' vividly demonstrates that even ghosts have a lot to be afraid of. Brian King's script constructs a Borgian Labyrinth out of the most mundane settings and shows us how even in our everyday lives, we are spirits living in the material world," says Natali.

Teaser Poster for Disney's Wreck-It Ralph

Source: ComingSoon

April 16, 2012

MSN has your first look at the teaser poster for Disney's Wreck-It Ralph, which is voiced by John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch. Opening in theaters on November 2, the animated film is described as follows:

Walt Disney Animation Studios and Emmy®-winning director Rich Moore (TV's "The Simpsons," "Futurama") take moviegoers on a hilarious, video-game-hopping journey in "Wreck-It Ralph," the story of an arcade game Bad Guy determined to prove he can be a Good Guy.

Wreck-It Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) longs to be as beloved as his game's perfect Good Guy, Fix-It Felix (voice of Jack McBrayer). Problem is, nobody loves a Bad Guy. But they do love heroes... so when a modern, first-person shooter game arrives featuring tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Jane Lynch), Ralph sees it as his ticket to heroism and happiness. He sneaks into the game with a simple plan-win a medal-but soon wrecks everything, and accidently unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens every game in the arcade. Ralph's only hope? Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman), a young troublemaking "glitch" from a candy-coated cart racing game who might just be the one to teach Ralph what it means to be a Good Guy. But will he realize he is good enough to become a hero before it's "Game Over" for the entire arcade?

Exclusive: James McTeigue on Message From the King & Ness/Capone

Source: ComingSoon

April 16, 2012

ShockTillYouDrop.com managing editor Ryan Turek had a chance to talk to The Raven director James McTeigue (V For Vendetta) about his upcoming projects, which include Message From the King and Ness/Capone

He's currently trying to cast the revenge thriller Message From the King, telling the site a bit more about its setting:

"This story puts me in modern-day L.A. There haven't been a lot of movies that do modern-day Los Angeles justice. 'Drive, for example, really felt like that was the Valley for me, more like a Paul Thomas Anderson movie. This is more like what the general populace knows about L.A. This movie puts the character into Los Angeles and he doesn't understand Los Angeles or care for it, either. He just knows the city has murdered his sister and he wants to find out why. It's about him traversing his way through the city and make sense of what happened to her."

"Then there's the Eliot Ness and Al Capone project," he continued. "Capone was only 30 and Ness was 26 when they were chasing each other around Chicago. This movie is about as far away from 'The Untouchables' as you can get. It's more [Michael Mann's] 'Heat.' It's about two men who want the same thing but are on opposite sides of the law. Michael Mann's made a whole career around that. It's called 'Ness/Capone' at the moment, but that will probably change."

Look for the full interview with McTeigue over on ShockTillYouDrop.com sometime next week, as well as interviews with the cast of The Raven, which opens on Friday, April 27.

Mark Ruffalo Eyes Bennett Miller's Foxcatcher

Source: ComingSoon

April 16, 2012

It was reported last fall that both Steve Carell and Channing Tatum were up for roles in Bennett Miller's true crime drama Foxcatcher. Now, Variety brings word that Mark Ruffalo is up for a role as well.

The film is based on the 1996 murder of Olympic wrestler David Schultz by his friend, John du Pont, a paranoid schizophrenic who operated a Pennsylvania-based training facility called Team Foxcatcher.

Ruffalo would take on the Schultz role with Carell starring as du Pont and Tatum Schultz's younger broher, Mark.

Set to shoot in October, Foxcatcher marks Miller's followup film from last year's Oscar-nominated Moneyball. This one boasts a script from the Capote team of E. Max Frye and Dan Futterman.

Ruffalo can soon be seen on the big screen as both Dr. Bruce Banner and (through motion-capture) as his rage-fueled alter-ego, the Hulk, in May 4th's Marvel's The Avengers.
