What it says.

Thankya kindly.

I like 'em well enough.

Apart from the odd random docking, who gives a monkey's?
I think we've established someone is messin' around.

Other than really pissing off one board member*, does it matter?

If you lose a point every now and again for no reason, you know it's the "Phantom Docker" and move on.

Having said which, I wouldn't fight to keep them.

Pretty much agree with everything.... every online community has some sort of reputation system, and a random dock from some cat that gets off on that really isn't going to skew anyone's rep.....that being said if most folks don't want 'em.... I won't lose any sleep over it.

I'm in ageement with above.  I like them as a way of giving out a pat on the back, but they can be annoying with the phantom dockers or whatever.

I don't necessarily want them abolished, but if they are I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

This isn't a slight on anyone, because I like all the posters in question; but over the past month I've seen the loss of mojo brought up on several occasions by different people. And each time it seems to have annoyed the member who lost it. On the other hand I can't remember anyone getting super excited for having been rewarded mojo.

So I'd ditch it.

To be honest, I think it's sort of the ultimate in passive/aggressive behavior.  Being able to show your displeasure with someone without them knowing is what makes everyone brave on the internet.  Saying or doing things you would never do to someones face.

To illustrate my point, it occurred to me the other day that I had not posted on Scot's open letter thread.  And that my silence made me look like a suspect.  FWIW, I only dock trolls like SQ or Jersey.  For behavior only.  I no longer have the inclination for grudges.  Even poots and I have come to a sort of detente`.

If we don't abolish them outright, my compromise would be to allow only admins and mods to give or take mojo.

If the majority of folks want it gone, fine with me.  I don't feel strongly about them.

Dump em. They aren't worth the hassle. They aren't worth anything and they don't even give an indication of status as far as how long someone has been here. Not worth the hassle IMO.

I wouldn't fight to keep them.

That said I do find them fun. Whether I'm rewarding for something I liked, seeing that people liked something I posted, or taking one from a guy like Jersey.

It also gives a sense to folk about how much a person has contributed to the mess.

I vote to keep them.

Yeah, I think I'm with Zeek on this one.

I'll admit it. If I say something particularly profound, and I have people add moko points, the positive reenforcement makes me feel better about having said it, and in some small way makes me more likely to contribute in the future.

In the same line of thinking, I like to encourage others by bumping them up a point when I can. Frankly, I rarely tell people when I bump up their mojo. It's not quite a "secret admirer" kinda thing, but I figure if someone's doing something good or saying something well and they get a bump, then they'll enjoy knowing it was appreciated even if they don't know by who.

As to docking people... You know what? I'll cop to that, too. I think I've dropped someone's mojo a point a total of three times since I started posting here. Never once was it for anyone who seemed to care, though. Realizing it was a wasted effort, I stopped doing it.

Gard's right. It IS a passive-aggressive kind of thing, but I'm not altogether convinced that that's so bad. It's certainly not as bad as a simple aggressive act! Not everything needs to be about confrontation. (Yeah, ok... I know it's a bit ironic that I said that, but I really HAVE been trying to behave since coming to the Mess.) So if you can take out your frustration with someone by docking him a mojo point, isn't that better than feeling your only recourse is to actually say something to him that's likely to start a fight?

Anyway, I'll come down on the side of retaining the mojo stuff, but I won't argue any further if the majority wants to get rid of it. (Oh, and I definitely won't dock anyone!)

I'm glad there was an ambivalence option.  I give a few points to folks when they do something funny, but I generally tell them when I do, so the same thing can be accomplished.

I do think it would be awesome if "oh that's points" became the universal sign of, "I like what you did there, good sir," after they were taken away.

I'll kill the fucker that takes away the MOJO!!!!!!!

Not really, but I like the system and would like it to stay.  I like being able to give a point when it's deserved (someone makes me laugh or some other great post), and generally don't take away points unless someone is really being a giant douche.  It's just a fun way to say "great point" besides just saying it or giving a  Thumb's Up, even if you don't mention that you gave a point.

I'm trying to abstain from Mojo and the inevitable fight that I feel will resurface as it returns. I would appreciate it if everyone would respect that and not give me any. Thank you.

That's my view, too.

I HAD looked into the possibility of taking away the ability to dock mojo, but it isn't possible.  It's either give/dock, or nothing.
