I saw the 12:30 showing at an imax today with my son, father inlaw, and a buddy of mine. I really liked the movie and it stands on its own as a very entertasining sci fi flick.

I have a few problems with the ending, and what looks to be some missed opportunities to dovetail this into the '79 flick. I might even have worked THOSE out, but I wanna discuss them with you guys. Spoilers allowed?

It was alright.  I liked it, but didn't love it.  BEAUTIFULLY shot/FXed/whatevered.  There was nothing wrong with it, per se, it was just...there.  Entertaining, to be sure.

MY advice?  Don't bother with the 3D.  The scenery is gorgeous enough without it.

That's how I've felt about most of Ridley Scott's work I've seen since Black Rain; far, far more style than substance.

Saw it last night. My suggestion.  Don't go in thinking ALIEN.  Go in thinking "Métal Hurlant". 

That's accurate, but I did think it was a lot like Alien. Treacherous android, suspended animation, shadowy evil corporation, workmen in space doing their jobs, strong female central lead, and extremely disturbing body horror.

I loved it, the 3D completely sucked me in and blew my mind. I don't know what percentage of the overall effect of the movie that had on me, but after that first sequence, I was completely a lock. When I described it to people today they almost all asked me "Did you drop acid or something?" I'm that whacked out about it. I checked my critic hat at the door and let this thing wash over me.

I liked how much it really did feel like a 50's or 60's flying saucer type thing, or a Twilight Zone episode, where these people in bubble-headed space suits get out on this weird planet and start fucking with shit, and you have no idea what the hell is going on and neither do the characters, and that really gets you in on the ride if you're willing to go on it.

There was a part where something blows up and I jumped, there's a part where somebody has to do something really fucked up to themselves that I wasn't 100% sure I could handle what was going to happen, and there was a part where somebody towards the end says I just want to get the hell out of here and go home and I said "No shit!" and realized then that I actually felt like I was there with those people dealing with what was going on.

3D Imax is a waste of money most of the time.

This is not one of those times. Spend an extra couple bucks and let this bitch get weird on you.

Seriously, that quatro-puss scene was fucked up. Yuck.

Saw it tonight. Other than a pretty big logic hole involving Fifield and the guy with the glasses I liked it. More than likely the third best in the series. Though that hole might eat away at my enjoyment of it on repeat viewings. Admittedly it'd have to sink quite a bit though to fall below Alien 3.

Haven't seen it yet (most likely Monday afternoon), so I know it's risky to pop in on this thread (not that I haven't come across spoilers elsewhere over the past week)...

...but am I crazy, or is it really fucking weird to see Coors Light commercials that are tied into Prometheus? Insurance companies and frozen pizza (a brand I had never heard of to boot) were strange enough for the Avengers, but that was a fairly family friendly kinda thing. But an R rated sci-fi horror film? It's really strange.  At least as far I can see...

The main complaint I've heard so far is that there are no questions answered, which I like a lot. To me the point of the movie is that there are question that exist without answers, and there are questions with answers you most certainly do not need to know the answers to. I do tend to project things from my worldview on my entertainment choices, so maybe this isn't necessarily what I'm supposed to take away from it, but I think the point is that there's things we're best off just accepting and going about our business.

Ridley said that was Earth (or somewhere) a millennium ago, and the dude was sacrificing his living genetic code to become the building blocks that would become evolved life. Or at least, he was trying to.

If the movie at any point tried to explain what those big assholes were doing, I would've been very disappointed.
