History, retail sales and toy company market research all point to this list :
Batman
Superman
That's it, guys. Seriously. Moms don't know Flash from Crazy Quilt.
Then let's go with the John Moores idea of branding of a DC Classic line...
Batman's Friend... Captain Comet!
Superman's Pal... Amanda Waller!

Reading the DCnU is like trying to shit a brick. It's agonizing. While I'm one of the few people around here who thought there might be some actual merit in a relaunch, the execution has been just that, an execution.

Well, we've discussed this before ad nauseum. Truth is, Mattel could probably go all SuperBats in the retail line. With one caveat:
USE SOME FUCKIN' IMAGINATION! DAMMIT!
See, there's an absolute shitload of SuperBat characters from almost 80 years of DC history that could be done successfully in plastic. I personally won't be around for it, but many people will. And the line may survive a few more years. You can even hitch the JLA, JSA, LSH, Teen Titans, and the Outsiders to it. If they were smart. Too bad about that.

So true. I'm as classic a guy as anybody, but beats me why a line of Batmen and villains from Batman Inc. and Batman RIP hasn't been made aside from a couple token DCD offerings... And why hasn't this Talon fuck from the recent Court of Owls been produced? There's two other creepy Clayfaces, a lack of a great retail Killer Croc, The Reaper, Anarky, Alfred in leather S&M bondage gear and gimp mask, Dr. Phosphorous, Blockbuster, The Ghost, Black Spider, KGBeast, Katana and the rest of the Outsiders, and that shit's all off the top of my head.
I have to think that even in the All-Stars line, maybe not all the ones I listed, but at least some of those characters visually look so kick-ass I think they'd have a shot.
And we'd get a bit more diversity.

How jaded is everyone that I mention a freaky-ass sex Alfred in the list above, and no one notices?

I figured it was from the 1930's version back when Batman shot vampires while they slept. That shit was wacky.

Well, I'd appreciate the failed effort at least.
We differ on the repaint perspective. If getting the most out of each and every slot is the criteria, then I think Wally West is a colossal waste of space. (Again, not arguing character merits, simply bang for the buck.) TONS of people want the light blue Superman, but if they put that in the sub, I'd join you in saying wtf.
Look, if I thought there was a way to get SP Kalibak at retail, I'd be cheering for that. But you saw FanGirl 2.0 on that retail panel. Does, um, anybody trust her to deliver on ... anything? (No offense, FG 2.0.)
As for the history of Wave 6 Kalibak, can someone enlighten me? I got in on the line when Wave 6 was collecting dust, so I don't know the backstory. Other than the mace thingy that went to the Parademon, how else were they catering to SP fans on that one? Was he going to have the SP deco to begin with? Is it the sleeve/no-sleeve thing or what?
I don't think I mentioned any criteria for repaints. I was just suggesting that Wally's presence in the Sub doesn't mean that all repaints/ redos would be fair game logically speaking. I'm of the opinion that slots should generally be used for team builders, classic characters, oddball villains etc. Wally probably should've been done at retail. But I don't make the rules. Honestly the biggest pattern I saw with all the reveals was fan demanded characters. I wouldn't be surprised to see a light blue Superman now. I'd ask why not retail, but I'd still probably get him.
Retail line is fucked. Getting Red Robin. I hope.
No history for wave 6 Kalibak, he was as far as I know intended to be the way he is. I was just making the point that people don't hate SP designs in general, they just don't see the need for the remake to satiate SP fans. We have an awesome Kalibak that SP fans aren't satisfied with. We have no Shaggy Man, Granny Goodness, King Shark, or Shinning Knight and Winged Victory at all. People just see SP as a lower priority.

What is it with George Michael and Michael Eisner hanging out in the dirtiest of men's rooms trying to hook up with dudes when they clearly are successful enough to not have to resort to that?
Allegedly.
EDIT:
By "resorting to that," I was referring to the dirty men's room hook up, not the gay sex.
