It's sad just how tone deaf Mattel is now. I wonder how bad it will look this time next year.

Hmm, I had a thought.
What if Mattel wanted to make a Death 6" figure, but were not allowed to (the Gaiman thing).
Maybe this was their work-around.
I still think the lack of a 6" product is Mattel not wanting to have to do a DCnu figure, but not being allowed to do a classic.

DC owns Death, not Gaiman. This is a lame effort to see if something like this will stick.

Yeah,
except
for the fact that Gaiman has very high control over the Sandman stuff.
Look how many creators have wanted to use his characters and have been turned down.
DC treat him very carefully, because they know they don't need another Alan Moore.
Never know when he might decide to return and write Sandman #0.

I don't think he has any actual control over the characters. I do think DC defers to him though. But this isn't like James Robinson and Jack Knight. DC cannot use Jack with Robinson's OK. Still you're right. DC doesn't want another Moore on their hands.

He doesn't. The whole asking permission thing is a courtesy, not a requirement.

And what I'm trying to say, is that if Gaiman didn't want Death as a 6" figure (and yes, I know DCD made her) for some reason, maybe he was more amenable to a statuette.

Somehow, I doubt he gives much of a shit. This is Mattel trying to be clever, hip, and cool. Didn't work though.

Those Tiny Titans would have made awesome pack-ins for DCUC figures; particularly ones that didn't have accessories. Cute as they are though, I can't see me spending Matty-exclusive prices for a set of what amounts to glorified gumball machine prizes.
Death... it's fine for what it is, but I'm just not interested in what it is.

Well, it's possible they'll blow out of them at the show itself. I doubt it'll set the world on fire, but by and large Vertigo fans aren't toy buyers. The less toyetic Mattel makes this thing, the more likely it'll appeal to casual fans of the character.
Or maybe it'll be the biggest bomb since Hiroshima.

Geoff Johns with middle finger flipping action and a roll of toilet paper made of old DC comics. If you buy it at SDCC you get an exclusive Dan Dido figure with his head shoved up his own ass, regrettably that won't be available on Matty after the show.
This is from the first page. Zeek said that the messer who guessed it would get 500 points.
I think Kimmel came closest to guessing the actual situation.

I admit the packaging is cool and the batsuit gives you plenty of cool display options but really? oversized batarangs, reused head, what looks like a slimmer dcuc body, no feet articulation, rubber suit that doesn't work for shit and restricts articulation.
What a joke. 30 bucks saved.

Ok Now That SDCC 2012 Is Over Your Overall Thoughts Good Or Bad

Me I have to say my feelings after this weekend are just "Meh!".
Sure we saw some good stuff from Mattel for those that like DC or MOTU but overall Mattel just didn't overwhelm me. I really didn't see any plans for 2013 that I was interested in.
And as for Hasbro some nice Marvel Universe figures but again a lot I knew were coming out.
And I really didn't see much else from companies I am interested in. The Outer Spacemen I knew about back in the spring. In fact I pre-ordered their SDCC exculsives back in April.
So compared to other SDCC's this one at least for me was kinda dull. I guess that was because I didn't get any eye popping surprises.
