Sure they won't be for everyone, but this is not a sign that 6" isn't continuing strong on Mattycollector.com.

Nope, just a sign that some dipshit at the Mattel factory can't read a tape measure.

And here's the answer to Rod's question

Posted April 27, 2012 01:51 PM    Hide Post
We wanted to use our DC SDCC items this year to try out some new form factors and artistic interpretations of the DC Universe. Also, the Dark Knight figure is a 6" Movie Master (but yes, I know you are asking about 6" DCUC comic book figures).

The 6" line is continuing on Mattycollector.com. We wanted to drive traffic there and use SDCC to offer up some new way to collect DC characters. Sure they won't be for everyone, but this is not a sign that 6" isn't continuing strong on Mattycollector.com every month starting with Flash 1 in just two weeks!

First off... what 6" Movie Master?

Secondly, 6" continuing 'strong'? That's not exactly accurate... is it.

I hear there are a few Brigadier pix floating around the web, in at least two different outfits.  And Katy Manning supposedly let it slip that her Jo Grant figure should have been out by now.  I'm expecting one of them, but hoping for both of them.

The Brig definitely deserves a figure.

I wasn't thinking Classic, but there's a lot to be mined.

I don't think they've done any Fifth, Seventh or Eighth Doc sets yet, have they?

Also, they need to do a Bessie for Doc Three to ride around in. Grin

An answer to my question:

She is the start of a whole new look of 8" DC Stactions. We are trying it out with one figure Death to see what fans think. This is not intended to replace 6". 6" will continue strong on Mattycollector.com with Flash 1 on sale in two weeks! It is just a fun new way to collect the DC Universe. It won't be for every fan, but for those into this look/interpretation - jackpot!

I'm with Rod here.
Collecting a new line from Mattel is a dicey prospect.

However I do like that piece, so I'll buy it to stand alone.
I can't see them completing a team though, so hopefully they'll choose characters that will "fit" into other displays.

I'll happily buy a well done Joker, Batman or Supes figure, just to put on the dedicated shelf.

Just a gut feeling.  Avengers seems to be about having fun with the genre.  I think Nolan wants to make you squirm in your seat.  YMMV.

Sure, Avengers is fun and will make millions.
But Batman is the end of a trilogy that has already made millions and has the fan-base.

I think it'll be pretty close, maybe it'll be the kids who decide it, I'm guessing Avengers is a family rated film right?

Either way, it's a great year for comics movies.

I still don't get it. Why start something completely new? A 6"-scale Death would've gotten the DCUC fans to buy. Non-DCUC fans, Vertigo fans, Gaiman fans had no preconceived expectation, so size would not have been an issue.

So, like nu-52, they're going after a possible 'imaginary' market out there instead of catering to the the already existing one.

Well, I hope it works for them... Roll Eyes

I'm trying to abstain from Mojo and the inevitable fight that I feel will resurface as it returns. I would appreciate it if everyone would respect that and not give me any. Thank you.

Honestly, after reading Matty's comments about going with a new "form factor" a few months ago, I wasn't expecting anything in the 6" scale for the SDCC exclusive this year, at least not in terms of actual figures.

For the sake of my own sanity, I stopped assuming/hoping that I would get anything I actually wanted from Mattel outside of the sub after NYCC last year.

I'm guessing first, that they're cheap (probably hollow, like a Rotoscale figure).

Secondly, Sandman is highbrow.

They're trying to corner the Vertigo market who wouldn't "do" toys, but will display a statue.

DCD's stuff is high end, Mattel's is affordable for all the  goth kids who can't afford $100 for a porcelain statue.

Plus, they get a bit of business from guys like me.
I care not about the new line, I just like Sandman a lot and think that's a pretty good deal for $25.

Honestly with Mattel I wouldn't be surprised if she wasn't supposed to be part of a new line. Just a DCUC figure that ended up too big in production. It came down to either not selling her at all, really pissing us off and sticking it in the sub; or to pretend she was part of some new thing that we'll never see a second piece to and sell it at SDCC.

Gee, I wonder why they don't have extra tooling dollars in the sub?  Because they're busy doing shit like this.  Horrible.

Peace,

The only reason I could see them starting something new is that they could re-release a whole bunch of better known characters in the hopes that "mom" and collectors will buy them.

This collector won't start another line.

I'm just not understandng what's going on here.  Hasbro is not wasting valuable resources on new "form factors".  They're making what sells and pushing the shit out of it.  Why does Mattel feel the need to go off on yet another tangent that most of us give fuck all about?

I literally don't know what to say.

I really hope Mattel goes out of buisness somehow.  They have become such a fucking waste of time.

I hope that Vertigo horseshit IS what the new retail line will be.  If it were 6 inch DC figures that ACTUALLY FIT with DCUC, I would have had to give these yam bag assholes more money.  And at this point, I don't want to do that anymore.

Just give it up Matty.

Well, I am kinda interested in the Hot Wheels exclusives, though I don't see any pics of them yet.  KITT and a Mystery Machine?  I'm intrigued.
