Men in Black 3 Launches Official Site and a New Viral

by SuperHeroHype

March 06, 2012

With yesterday's debut of the brand-new trailer (check it out by clicking here), Men in Black 3 has launched its official site at MenInBlack.com as well as a second viral website that ties into the previously-revealed TheMenInBlackSuitsAreReal.com.

The official site offers new stills, animated GIFs and desktop wallpapers and, if you let the music play out, you can hear a number of samples from the new score.

The viral site, meanwhile, is for a faux Chinese restaurant called Wu's Diamond Garden that looks to be the same restaurant featured in the trailer. Like the previous viral site, this one also has a telephone number that fans can call in to "place an order." If you'd like to do so, you can at 1-877-300-0040.

Starring Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin, Jemaine Clement, Emma Thompson, Nicole Scherzinger, Alice Eve and Michael Stuhlbarg, Men in Black 3 hits theaters in 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D on May 25th.

New Line Plans Another Journey

Source: ComingSoon

March 6, 2012

Having already raked in over $270 million at the box office worldwide, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is now slated to receive a followup. The Hollywood Reporter has word that Warner Bros. has set director Brad Peyton and writers Brian and Mark Gunn to return for a third Jules Verne-inspired offering.

Journey 2, the sequel to 2008's Journey to the Center of the Earth, is in theaters now and stars Josh Hutcherson, Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Vanessa Hudgens, Luis Guzman and Kristen Davis. There's no word yet on which actors will return for another adventure -- especially given the disparate casts of the first two films -- but the second does end with the suggestion that many are likely to reprise their roles.

Journey 3 is currently being targeted for release sometime in 2014.

The Muppets Take on The Hunger Games

Source: ComingSoon

March 6, 2012

You may have thought you had seen the final parody trailer for Walt Disney Pictures' The Muppets last year, but, with the DVD and Blu-ray hitting shelves on March 20th, they're at it again! This time, it's a parody of the highly-anticipated The Hunger Games, which hits theaters that same week (on the 23rd). The trailer arrives courtesy of Yahoo! Movies and you can check it out in the player below!

You can also view all the previous trailers as well as find links to the home video versions of the film (available on DVD, Blu-ray and in a 3-Disc Combo Pack) by clicking here.

The film stars Walter, the world's biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams). Hailing from Smalltown, USA, they discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets' former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate.

A Cloverfield 2 Update from Drew Goddard

by ShockTillYouDrop

March 06, 2012

This afternoon, Shock Till You Drop met up with Drew Goddard before he ventured out to Texas for the South By Southwest Film Festival to show off his impressive directorial debut The Cabin in the Woods.

There's a full interview coming all about that movie (which opens April 13th from Lionsgate), however, before I crack into that, I wanted to extract an update he provided on Cloverfield 2, the sequel to the film he penned for producer J.J. Abrams and director Matt Reeves.

"I'm in, I'm ready to do it," Goddard told us today.  "Someone call J.J. and tell him to get moving, but because Matt and J.J. and I have been fortunate enough to be busy, it's hard syncing our schedules up. We're all very passionate about returning to that world."

Asked if an idea is on paper, he responded: "If you asked each of us what we wanted to do, you'll get three different answers, which is how the first film was.  The aesthetic of Cloverfield benefits from that.  Three voices pulling it.  Look, nothing would make me happier than to get the three of us in the room to get started."  He added with a laugh, "But you've got this Star Trek thing..."

Indeed, Abrams is deep into shooting Star Trek 2 and Reeves is tangled up with a number of projects.

Discussing the original Cloverfield, I told him I saw the film as not just a cool monster movie but a terrific love story.  "I'm happy you said that, because I don't normally hear that," Goddard said.  "It's certainly what I think of it as, it's a love letter to my wife."

Stay tuned for that Cabin interview!

Josh Trank Eyes Spider-Man Spinoff, Venom

by SuperHeroHype

March 06, 2012

In a somewhat surprising turn of events, The LA Times is reporting that Chronicle director Josh Trank is in talks to direct Venom, a feature film based on the "Spider-Man" character.

First appearing in the comic book series as an alien costume worn by Spider-Man in "The Amazing Spider-Man" #252 in 1984, it was several years before the creature left Peter Parker and merged with photographer Eddie Brock, forming the antihero known as Venom. Since then, the character has appeared in a variety of different forms and bonded with several different hosts. In the "Ultimate" Marvel Universe, the suit has a more terrestrial origin, created by Parker and Brock's scientist parents in an attempt to cure cancer.

Venom has appeared on the big screen before in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, played by Topher Grace. It is unlikely that the proposed film will bear any connection to that take on the character, though it remains to be seen if the project will connect in any form to July 3rd's The Amazing Spider-Man.

Sony has allegedly toyed with the idea of a Venom spinoff in the past, but this new version is rumored to be unconnected to previous drafts. Check back for studio confirmation and official details as soon as they become available.

Etan Cohen Takes Boy Scouts vs. Zombies

Source: ComingSoon

March 6, 2012

Etan Cohen has signed on to direct Boy Scouts vs. Zombies, according to a story at The Hollywood Reporter.

Little is known about the project aside from its high concept title and that it is based on a horror comedy spec script from Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki, two of the names behind 2008's College Road Trip.

Back in 2010 it was said that Andy Flickman (You Again) would be taking the directing chair on the Paramount film. He appears to still be aboard the project as a producer.

Cohen is best known as the writer of Tropic Thunder and the upcoming Men in Black 3.

The Prometheus Viral Debuts a New Image

Source: ComingSoon

March 6, 2012

A new image from Ridley Scott's Prometheus has been revealed to fans who registered with the viral website weylandindustries.com. You can check out the new image below, but be sure to head to the site and register yourself as the viral is likely just beginning.

Revealed last week, Weyland Industries is the faux company started by Guy Pearce's Peter Weyland. In the time period of the original Alien, Weyland Industries has become the Weyland-Yutani Corporation.

Prometheus arrives in theaters on June 8th from director Ridley Scott, writing alongside Damon Lindelof and Jon Spaihts. Starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Charlize Theron, the film's connection to Alien is still not fully specified, though this image evokes a sense of the original film's Space Jockey chamber.

From IGN:

Joss Whedon Talks Avengers' Hulk

Avengers director explains how this Banner is different.

March 6, 2012

by Max Nicholson

There's a lot riding on Joss Whedon's upcoming adaptation of Marvel's The Avengers, but for the most part, we know the drill with our heroes -- Iron Man, Thor, Captain America -- we've already seen these guys in their own movies. However, with the addition of Mark Ruffalo, there's been some concern as to how the actor will come off on screen as Dr. Bruce Banner. Well, Whedon's here to tell you there's no need to worry:

"Mark is such a delightful mensch it's stupid," Whedon told SFX. "His Banner is a bunch of contradictions: graceful and awkward, meek and confident, erudite and working class, funny and sad. And contradictions are what the Banner/Hulk dynamic are all about. Also, Mark kinda looks like the Hulk. So we got to build our Hulk from him."

But perhaps even more nerve-racking is the film's depiction of the Jade Giant himself. The character's track record has been a mixed bag over the years. What did Whedon's Hulk need to get right?

"So much," the director continued. "A Bruce Banner who's not obsessed with his own problems. A Hulk who not only feels flesh and blood, but is clearly an extension of Banner himself and not just a CGI thing that roars. A Hulk who feels dangerous, who might actually hurt someone we care about, who belongs in a classic horror film. And much more. He's the hardest character by far, and ended up being the most fun."

Max Landis Boards Chronicle 2

by SuperHeroHype

March 07, 2012

With the worldwide gross of the original already having topped $100 million, 20th Century Fox has its sights set on a sequel to Chronicle. Deadline reports that the original film's screenwriter, Max Landis, has signed on to draft a followup.

Released on February 3rd, the original film was directed by Josh Trank and stars Dane DeHaan, Michael B. Jordan and Alex Russell.

The film tells the story of three high school students who make an incredible discovery, leading to them developing uncanny powers beyond their understanding. As they learn to control their abilities, and use them to their advantage, their lives start to spin out of control, and their darker sides begin to take over.

There's no word yet on who else from the original might be returning for the sequel, though Trank was, yesterday, rumored to be negotiating to next direct Venom, based on the "Spider-Man" villain/antihero.

Landis, the son of film director John Landis, is also attached to Fox's untitled Frankenstein film and Pied Piper as well as an untitled space adventure film at Walt Disney Pictures.

The only thing keeping the star-crossed lovers apart: Mei's a vampire. To free Mei from the curse, Sargent sets out to destroy the vampire that made her. The only problem: Mei was turned by one of the most powerful vampires in history...
