Not my thing, but she ain't bad.

I don't get all the hooplah over a manufactured image.  You want to talk about manufactured bands, you must mention The Monkees, and most people here (and by here, I mean EARTH) fucking LOVE them.

Besides, artists NEED personas.  You think KISS looks that way all the time?  Fuck no.

Is Miku Hatsune A More Authentic Pop Star Than Lana Del Rey? | Idea Channel | PBSpowered by Aeva

So has the image/persona/fashion/etc. finally overtaken the music as what really matters in our pop stars? Or has it always been that way I never noticed?

She was knocking around with Axl too, but the ginger terror was too busy pissing on G'N'R / Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame / Reunion rumours.

Here's my thoughts on the matter:

http://www.salisburysnake.com/2012/02/new-myrmidon-of-melodrama-from-shangri.html

I like her more because she's the way she is. Pissing off people into "indie cred" is a plus. What, hipsters rode out of their mama's pussy on bicycles with ironic beards, wayfarer glasses, tight pants, chucks, and carrying Decemberists records? That's not a fucking put on, too? Wanna know my favorite independent record label? Motown. Wanna know my second favorite? Sun. Wanna know my third? Motherfucking Atlantic. Any hipster motherfuckers would accept those answers? No. Know why? Your mom might have heard of them.

What was funny was talking to people in the store who liked the music and then decided they didn't like her music anymore because it turns out she's not actually a 60's ingenue from a trailer park writing songs about a coked out dirtbag who abuses her. Is that healthy? Is that not fucked up? "I liked the way it sounded but now I don't because the performer isn't the way I thought they were?" That's what's fucking lame.

"Authentic." Fucking hell.... NOBODY is authentic. You want authentic, go listen to bluegrass and watch those hicks stand perfectly still and play 100 year old songs without deviating from the formula for a split fucking second and eat cheese sandwiches all your life.

Hipsters suck.

It's like the folk who say they HATE the Beatles, and why do they hate the Beatles? well. because they're the Beatles.

My bag with her is that she is fucking insult to REAL musicians and esp women in that scene that do have something to share and have fought all the way for their art.

But that's been seen through and through with females with the music business. It favours the manufactured over talent.

Illusion over Reality...

That was she is and I can't condone this as that's been the death of music and scenes for years.

I don't like the Beatles on the radio because most stations only play the same 10 songs over and over.

If I'm going to listen to someone like the Beatles or Jimmy Buffett, I'll pull up their catalog and listen to all the great stuff that never gets air time.

Same here... Your general radio stations or even specialist stations play it safe and with that safety comes a somewhat bland play list. I've got into online braodcasts there are great ones from Andrew Loog Oldham and Ronnie Wood which go all out!

She did write the words to her songs. That would give her more cred than Elvis and Sinatra, just to start the list. She is actually singing. That is her voice. She was flat on SNL, she's good plenty of other live performances you can find online.

I saw her live just before she made her appearance on Jools Holland, she reminded me a bit of Patty Smith, her ability wasn't shit, wasn't great, just meh.

It's just not my thing... her voice does nothing for me at all.

Well if that's the case with the lyrics, then that's one good point!  Thumb's Up
