We've just gotten Wave 16 to start off this year. Wave 17 is the Blackest Night wave which I believe is hitting in late spring. Wave 18 is the Super Powers/MA Villians (Wal-Mart waste) wave in the fall and Wave 19 is the rumored GA Wave for late fall/early winter.

Is that it for the year, are we waiting until 2012 for Wave 20?

Unclear.  Seems to be a lot of product coming down the pipe.  Wave 18 is in the fall, wave 19 should be winter.  20 could get pushed to next year.

Mattel is pleased with the frustrated scramble that resulted at the end of last year.  Wave 20 will come out a week before Xmas.

That's why there's MikeS. Grin  Also, no more store exclusives either...

And wave 20 should also be free from themes.  Like waves 1-15.

OMG  an actual effective marketing strategy?  Next thing you know, DR will be replaced by three chimps and a Casio.

I think that for manufacturing purposes the Legion pack is being counted as a wave. That's the only way to make this years wave releases make sense.

No store exclusives in 2011 is great news.   I'm still expecting DCUC20 near the end of the year and DCUC 21 in January of 2012.  They dumped DCUC 14-16 and GLC1 on us in a four month span.  There's no reason to think they can't do it again.

It will be interesting to see how DCUC 17 and 18 do at retail.  I just stopped by a Wal-Mart on the way into work and they still have a handful of DCUC figures in their clearance section including Tyr, Cyclotron, and Desaad.  When I was in South Florida a couple of weeks ago, I saw multiple Cyclotrons at most stores.

When you're marketing to the Blackest Night, Super Powers, and Superfriends crowd, you're marketing to a niche of a niche.  Matty is really rolling the dice putting out back to back waves based on these themes.

But you see when they don't sell good we will take the blame for not supporting the line.

Exactly and if Mattel then kills the line (like with He-Man 200x); we'll take the blame for that too.

$11.00.  It's sad to think that this year's clearance prices were last year's retail prices.

My money's on Mattel finding out the hard way that the online "noise" for those figures doesn't translate into actual sales of them.   Grin   IMO the best we can hope for is that they'll appeal enough to "Mom" to keep the line going and not sell well enough to completely change the direction it took in the first 16 waves.

Which universe?

1938-1984?

1985-2011?

2011 and beyond?

I'm scared.  Even though I'm willing to give the relaunch a chance, I'm not willing to let DCUC change focus to the Lee-verse?  Does that make me a hypocrite?  'Cause I fucking hate hypocrites.

Like I said recently -- we should speculate and hope for what figures will be released in 2012 -- because there's every likelihood we are not going to be fans of what is forthcoming in 2013 and beyond.  I'm only basing this on what I recall the "lead time" is for a figure to make its way from initial thought to actual release -- isn't it well over a year?

Or maybe the crap will start surfacing in mid 2012...so we might only have a few waves to be happy about.  Motherfuckers better finish up certain teams (JSA, Metal Men, Doom Patrol, etc) by then.

Man, if DCUC Brewers us, that will be way worse than when DCD did it.
