If so, what games are you playing, what games are you looking forward to?

And in the spirit of every videogame board on the net, I suppose I have to take sides.

Sony is teh suck.  All they are is a giant corporation that wants your money.  Nintendo Wii is great!  Even though it has a gay name and you'll look like a complete doofus playing it, at least it is not in direct competition with X-box so it is an acceptable alternative.  Blah Blah Blah.

Not I.  I never buy systems when they're new.  It used to be just because of the way the prices would always fall dramatically.  While that's still true, I also like to wait and let the manufacturers work the bugs out that always seem to be in new systems now.  Hell, I'm such a fan of old-school games that the PS2 still wows me on a regular basis; I figure I can wait a bit for state of the art.

I don't really follow gaming news, but doesn't the Wii (goddamn... fire the marketing department now!) have a built-in emulator and play old NES games or something?  That's something I'd be interested in, and I've never owned a Nintendo system, aside from an ignored Gameboy Advance I received as a gift.

Yes, we plays all games back to the NES and even games for the old Turbografx 16 and such.  What's more is these older games will be available online...from whatI've read anyway.  I think the controller is cool in theory, but dammit, geeks have a bad enough time feeling dorky...now you want them to act out the games.  Imagine playing Zelda and having to mime out firing the bow.

Wait... what?  I told you, I don't keep up with game news too well, so I'm a bit lost here.  If this is like some of that weird Dance Dance Revolution-type shit, I'm totally out.  I'm way too old and fat to do any of that crap.

Yeah, they've got a revolutionary motion detection controller....say for instance in Zelda, if you want to fire a bow you make bow firing motions with the controller.  That's the whole gimmick behind the Wii.  The only thing it would be remotely cool on is light saber games.  Imagine all the Youtube vids that are looming of pasty geeks in whitey tighties and dress socks "playing lighsaber" with their Wiis. Yeah, I'd rather not.  I probably won't be able to avoid doing so, though.

Isn't there allready a ightsaber swinging game thing out? I remember that being around at the big Wal Mart Star Wars tent on the day all the new toys and stuff came out. They wanted me and my pal Dave to play it. It looked cool, but we didn't want anyone to see us fucking with it. Being a grown man buying toys was quite enough social awkwardness for that day, thanks.

Yeah, my kids have one. It's one of those (relatively) inexpensive plug-n-play things. The controls aren't the best. My kids were complaining they had to stand almost right next to the TV to get it to work. My kids really don't complain about their games, and they've had some real stinkers before. I'd avoid if possible. It's just a boulder in the mountain of cheap-ass Star Wars merchandise out there. Avoid or Climb Over.

My dad and I were in a Target last weekend, and the demo for some fighter jet game on a flatscreen display caught his eye.  When it was over, he asked me when it would be in theaters.  That's some good fucking graphics.

The graphics on the 360 are pretty amazing.  In game screen shots look as good as animated cut scenes from a year or two ago.  The difference on a regular TV is noticeable, on hi-def it's amazing.  There are a few games I'm waiting to buy until I get an HDTV.  One being Oblivion, the other Mass Effect.  Mass Effect is a game in the vein of Knights of the Old Republic (in fact it's the reason Bioware didn't do the second KOTOR) but far more freeform.  THere are like 800 different planets you can land on....it's supposed to be the biggest gameworld ever in a videogame.  I love big epic action/RPGs they're pretty much my favorite, because they do the best job at taking you into the game.

Speaking to 'looking forward', I recently saw a preview for the Justice League game that's coming out soon. I really wanted to be 'WOW'ed but I wasn't. If anyone has ever played City of Heroes or anything similar (I was never that impressed...) it looks like a cheap skin of games in that vein. Just not as good. It invoked the old TMNT arcade game with the top down view and 'sort-of' side scrolling movement. You don't really side-scroll per se. You can go N/S/E/W, but there didn't appear to be much depth perception. If I find out where I saw it, I'll post the link...

I've seen lots of screen shots, but any more it's hard to tell what are cut scenes and what is actual gameplay.  Videogame publishers are really getting dodgy with that whole false advertising thing.

Yeah, and even if the graphics are blowaway in quality, the gameplay might still suck sour frog ass.  I try not to get too worked up until after the reviews are in.  The DC game in particular worries me; DC games historically reek.

I didn't mind Batman Begins or Batman: Vengeance. Everything else has been fucking awful, especially Sin Tzu. I'd like to have been able to make my own mind up about Dark Tomorrow, but it never got released for PS2 over here.

I was thinking of those Superman and Aquaman games that everyone agreed were just terrible.  Let's not forget "Justice League Task Force," either.  Awful, awful, awful.
