OK, even though they probably won't get into the personal appearance mindset thing in the film -- I'd say you've pretty much convinced me. Maybe (storywise) this takes place in a situation where he's been abanodoned for a period of time and unable to shave?
And I agree about the eagle thang -- that is one aspect of the uniform (outside of the helmet) I do remember. Even if it's somewhat minimized, it should be there.
Heh, It's all good.
I'm amazed Dredd ever got the chance to make another screen appearance after the Stallone abortion, but to be fair that film got the costume almost spot on.
And yeah, if a bit of stubble and a body armoured suit are all I've got to whinge about...I won't complain too much.
I want a franchise from this film so badly. I would kill to see the Dark Judges in a Dredd movie.
Still
the
best Dredd moment ever.

Interesting, my memory was fuzzy. I thought the body armor was accurate, but I thought he looked a bit thin. I forgot all about the honking shoulder pad. Upon further review I like it because it's very Nova (Marvel)-esque.

...I would LOVE to see the Dark Judges in a movie! I read a few runs of the original comic back in the late 80's. I have always been a huge fan of iconic, "indie" comic-characters like him, Grendel, Miracleman, Sable, the Badger...
I even picked up those 2000 AD import figures! And the Toybiz ones too...

FYI 2000ad and Miracleman aren't Indie comics. They just seem like it in the Big 2 dominated U.S.

...Yeah, I know!
I meant it in the general sense... Lol. That said, I'd kill a village to get a "Grendel" or "Miracleman" movie made!

Sorry, I'm a Brit. We're rather protective of those two.

Man, a movie based on "The Day the Law Died" would be so cool, it would leave about 99% of moviegoer's wondering what the fuck just happened though.
Still, I wonder if we'll ever see "The Judge Child Quest" make it as a sequel. That would be pretty fucked up.

Seeing as how this is now an ongoing concern, I hope no-one minds me starting a dedicated thread. I'm probably looking forwards to this more than Green Lantern and Nolan Batman 3 combined.
Judge Anderson has now been cast and it's an interesting choice, though I'm just pleased that they're concentrating on supporting characters.
Now they've got Mega City One's formost PSi involved can Judge Death be far behind?
From Bleeding Cool:
The new Dredd movie’s Psi Judge Anderson has been cast, and she’s an unexpected, unusual choice.
Despite descriptors in the screenplay that suggest someone more blonde poppety, the role has gone to Olivia Thirlby.
Anderson is easily the most interesting character in the screenplay, not least because she’s the one with a character arc.
There’s a neat scene in the first half of the script in which Anderson uses her psychic abilities to get herself and Dredd out of a tight corner and into hiding. What happens subsequently, in the apartment they hide out in, was easily the highpoint of the screenplay for me.
It’s Dredd’s movie, but Anderson’s the heart.
I hope they don't fuck this one up ala the Stallone version, Dredd is easily one of my favourite characters and I really want to see this film perform well.
Plus y'know some 4H movie tie-in figures would be nice...(though it'll probably be Neca) or maybe even Hot Toys?
Aye that bird's fit.

New shots from the movie.

Honestly I want this to succeed, but it's all looking a bit to low key to me. Even "Year One" Dredd was a lot more futuristic than this.

Not really a lot to go by there.
Keep in mind it's a $45 million dollar movie (which, by today's standards, is sadly rather minimal). The original craptacular movie -- back in 1995 -- had a $90 million budget -- and THAT was fifteen years ago. So yeah -- there's probably going to be a bit of doing "less with more".

Oh, I know that.
To be fair I'm not expecting visuals to compete with the Stallone effort (at least as far as CGI and Mega City One go) but the vans shown are just regular looking paddy wagons.
Dredd has to be a little more Sci-fi and the vehicles should be the easiest to do. Whack a new body on and the base doesn't matter.
Now although in the early years there were a lot of wheeled cars, the Judges always had the best stuff (natch).
Year One Dredd:
Year Two(ish) example of Justice Department vehicles:
Later in Year Two:
Mid to Late Year Three
I know I'm being picky, in an ideal world we'd get modern day sensibilities, crossed with the budget and look of the first flick (and they did get the look perfectly).
Now of course I will be happy if the feel is right, I just don't want to see gritty near future. This needs to be the early days of something new, a mix of old tech and new.

I never think of Judge Dredd as out in the day time, for whatever reason. Seeing this stuff at night might help the mood.
