I think the creators put more thought into the character of Flash than most people think.  If you think about it, with those powers, I think most people would opt to be prankish and impish with them.  Pulling chairs from under people, making them eat too much, etc.  So making Jay operate that way really rings true.

For some reason I have a vision of Jay force feeding people at super speed until they do a "Mr Creosote". eeevil

He came close to that. Grin Thanks for putting it up, folks; looks great. And yes, for all the yap about Golden Age characters having "no personality", Jay sure has some consistant traits; he's a prankster, who loves playing tricks on criminals. Only when he's very mad (Joan is in trouble or whatnot) does he simply punch someone out. He loves football, is easily preoccupied, and harbours a not-so secret ambition to be a movie star. He knows Joan can twist him round her little finger, so always gives her a faux hard-time with a mock grump attitude, even though he's already decided to help. Jay, Joan and the Dimwits are a definite "gang", too.

I'm looking forward to investigating every (or nearly every) solo JSAers Golden Age stories, eventually. I'm hoping that each will give up a few surprises. (Just for fun, I've been reading the Aquaman / Green Arrow / Johnny Quick stories in More Fun and Adventure to 1954, and noted that Earth-Two Aquaman did not have a one-hour time limit to stay out of water; he could stay on dry land seemingly indefinitely.)
