Just came from seeing it,first glad i avoided all spoilers here and elsewhere.I don't know why i didn't put two and two together with miranda's tattoo or scar when they were in bed,and i like the robin nod, a little cheesy but why not?reminded of how they did bucky in cap, somewhat. And from my point of view since this is nolan's last bat film,i'll say he died at the end,and Alfred was just imagining seeing bruce.Hathaway's catwoman was spot on she was the most likeable in the movie.I really didn't like Bane's voice in the movie, didn't sound menacing enough.

Just saw it...I was really disappointed, I thought the weakness of the Batman Begins was going to be left in the dust by The Dark Knight's Joker. It had seemed like the franchise was beginning to embrace the comics a little more with the crazy homicidal Heath Ledger Joker, but I guess not. Instead they rehashed all the hokey crap from the first film. Ra's al Ghul's greatest desire was to blow up Gotham City?!?!?!? As some symbol of decadence? Really?

And Talia engages in this grand scheme of investing in the development of a fusion reactor, then kidnapping a scientist in order to fashion the reactor into a bomb, which will slowly degrade and explode. Yet she sticks around in Gotham for 3 months waiting for this to happen, to institute a form of martial law that results in a form of anarchy perpetuated by Jonathan Crane handing out death sentences.

So Talia's plan all along was to hang out in a decimated Gotham for 3 months and wait for a nuclear device to explode? Ummm Yeah. Makes about as much sense as driving a train into the center of the city with a bomb on it.

Strangely enough, Ledger's Joker, who was insane, had a more rational reason for perpetuating mayhem on Gotham. He wanted to Fuck with Batman.

Hell, even Marvin Martian had a better rationale for wanting to blow up the Earth...It was obscuring his view...

This was hardly even a Batman movie. You could take out Batman and drop in Sylvester Stallone's Rambo or Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead and it wouldn't change the movie in the least. The Batman story is almost ancillary to the plot.

In what universe would Alfred Pennyworth abandon Bruce Wayne? Would Batman ever hide in Wayne Manor because the police were out to get him for a false accusation of murder for killing Harvey Dent? It makes no sense. It's completely out of character.

It amazes me that Warner Bros can make Harry Potter movies that actually follow the books precisely, and make Watchmen which pretty much used the original graphic novel as the storyboard, yet every fucking incarnation of Batman in the movies is a joke.

The Burton/Schumacher Batman fought costumed criminals whose henchmen would break out into large-scale choreographed dance numbers.

The Nolan Batman is an Emo waste of skin that spends 90% of each movie pouting.

I can hardly wait for Man of Steel.  Roll Eyes meh

well the nolan "batman if he was real in real life" take was interesting and always was something i wanted to see,but i'm ready for a new batman movie that's larger then life and the wham!biff!pow! feel from the comics, and less dark and more fun and over the top villians but not silly.I was bored in parts with DKR,I don't like having to pay too much attention to what the actors are saying and more seeing cool action in a summer flick.I wouldn't be surprised if kids yawned and fell asleep through this.

I'm actually enjoying the fact that this film appears to be somewhat polarizing here.
Gonna go see it in true IMAX tomorrow in order to get off the fence and finally make up my mind about it once and for all.

Oh, and to clarify once and for all what I mean about "true IMAX" -- an article I found online had a perfect image to illustrate the HUGE difference:

Hans Zimmer Writes Song in Dedication to Aurora Victims

by SuperHeroHype

July 27, 2012

Composer Hans Zimmer has written and recorded a song entitled "Aurora"  that he has dedicated to the victims, families, and friends of the Aurora tragedy. He posted this on his Facebook page.

"Aurora" is dedicated to those who lost their lives and were affected by the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado. I recorded this song in London in the days following the tragedy as a heartfelt tribute to the victims and their families. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Aurora Victim Relief organization. The Dark Knight Rises Passes the $500 Million Mark Worldwide

by SuperHeroHype

July 29, 2012

ComingSoon.net has posted the weekend box office estimates which show that The Dark Knight Rises has surpassed the $500 million mark worldwide. Here are a few excerpts, including an update on Spidey:

Although Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises took a pretty heavy drop in its second Friday, partially due to the Olympics, it picked up business on Saturday to gross an estimated $64.1 million in its second weekend, down 60% from last weekend with a running total of $289 million in just ten days. By comparison, Nolan's previous Batman movie The Dark Knight made $75.2 million in its second weekend, down 53%, and had grossed $313 million by its tenth day. Internationally, The Dark Knight Rises has reached $248.2 million for a worldwide total of $537.3 million.

...The Amazing Spider-Man (Sony), which dropped to sixth place with $6.8 million, having grossed $242 million domestically since opening earlier this month. Overseas, the film has earned $412 million for a worldwide total of $654 million.

The Dark Knight Rises Fastest to Pass $50M in IMAX

by SuperHeroHype

July 30, 2012

The Dark Knight Rises already set an opening weekend record for a 2D film last week, but now it continues to break records, and some unexpected ones at that. Here's the IMAX announcement:

IMAX Corporation and Warner Bros. Pictures today announced that The Dark Knight Rises generated strong second weekend global box office results of approximately $15 million in 479 IMAX® theatres worldwide over the weekend of July 29, bringing the film's global IMAX cumulative box office to date to approximately $52 million.

"We've crossed the $50 million mark in the fastest time ever with The Dark Knight Rises, lifted, in part, by exceptional international box office," said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. "Audiences are clearly seeking out and embracing the film the way it was meant to be seen – in IMAX. We are pleased by the second-weekend results and believe the film will continue to have the legs we anticipated."

We saw it in IMAX, but only because we went with friends who love IMAX.  In general, my wife and I are ok with the slightly cheaper, 2D traditional way.

But was it IMAX...or "Lie-Max"?
[see previous post of mine]

Just saw it again in real IMAX. Liked it more this time around. There are definitely still major issues...but there are also things I picked up on far more clearly and easily this time around which put some issues to rest.

This seems the best place to post this. It's a video of Tom Waits that Heath Ledger may have used to base the joker on.

**Spoilers**

So how is it he gets stabbed by Talia and he's all "owwww" and "I can't go on, I'm done, Ill let Bane kill me" and then after AnneLeatherSpankSuit shows up and takes Bane out he's all "yeah, I'm cool, just a bit winded from a huge fucking knife stuck in me" and goes off to save the day and fight people, etc?

It wasn't that big a knife.
It was the shock of the moment.
No one else in the scene thought it was a killing blow -- not Talia, not Bane -- why should Bats. And let's be serious -- he wasn't really all "Let the brawny fuck kill me already" in that moment.

Honestly, Zeek put it best -- except I'd throw in a "fucking" -- as it he's the goddamned fucking Batman.

And isn't there a thread for discussing this film WITH spoilers -- or have we decided it doesn't matter at this point since most, if not all of us have seen it at least once?

The Dark Knight Rises Passes $300 Million Domestically

by SuperHeroHype

August 01, 2012

Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises has become only the third movie of 2012 to surpass the $300 million mark domestically. Having earned $8.7 million on Tuesday, its 12th day in theaters, Nolan's third and final Batman movie has reached $304 million domestically.

The other two 2012 films that have earned more than $300 million are Marvel's The Avengers with $615.9 million total and The Hunger Games with $405.9 million.

After 12 days, Batman Begins had earned $122.5 million and The Dark Knight was at $333.9 million. Batman Begins collected $205.3 million total domestically, while The Dark Knight reached $533.3 million.

We don't have the updated international total for "Rises" yet, but as of Sunday it was $248.2 million.
