Godfather 1, Godfather 2...
I can't wait for Scot to see this.
Yeah, I saw it. Decided I can't jump up and down and throw a tantrum every time somebody slags Nolan's films. People can say and will say whatever they feel like, all entitled to opinions and all that jazz. Many had lined up against
TDK before its release and ended up chowing down on a healthy plate of braised crow (and even those who continue to pick at that film -- their comments sound more petty or even petulant than anything else).
Sure, I hope for a similar cinematic experience this time as well. Do I EXPECT it? No, but I can still
hope for it. If some are determined to do a "compare & contrast" between this film and say,
The Avengers -- well, so be it. Whedon himself decried such stupidity -- and that's not just "Hollywood manners" -- anyone remember when RDJ made several sniping comments back in 2008?
Should one knock
Unforgiven because it's not as much fun as
Tombstone?
Should one knock
Chinatown because it's not as much fun as
Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Should one knock
2001 because it's not as much fun as
Star Wars?
Then why knock
TDK? Other than a childhood borne resentment of "the other guys" when we chose sides between DC & Marvel (something I personally will admit to) -- it's just plain silly.
TDKR might suck, it might be great -- and odds are it'll fall somewhere in-between. It probably won't approach the astronomical business that
The Avengers has already done because (a)
far less of a kids fun factor [happy now, Marv?]; (b) no 3D showings to elevate a large percentage of ticket prices and (c) a likely letdown with no Ledger and a villain far less familiar to the masses (and also somewhat harder to understand dialogue-wise, though it appears they've tinkered with the audio to resolve that).
And if some decide to point fingers because
TDKR ends up "only" doing $700 - $900 million worldwide instead of breaking the billion dollar mark -- well, sorry, that goes from just voicing an opinion to being an idiot, plain and simple.
