I'm glad in a way, because I already bought Hot Toys' WWII Cap, and that costume keeps me from having to buy Cap again.  No way I'm I going to spend 200 bucks on a highly detailed doll of a ComicCon cos-player.

More importantly, Measle cannot post ever again.  His post count is at 32323 -- a number doesn't get much better than that.

So silencio, El Measlo.  Lips Sealed

Actually, it will be another 23230 posts before you're on the positive side of the ledger again.

There are other ways to make it south of the wall, but the 23,000+ posts seem more likely!

Christopher Nolan on the "Operatic" IMAX of The Dark Knight Rises

by SuperHeroHype

April 13, 2012

With just over three months left to go before his film's release, director Christopher Nolan spoke with the Director's Guild of America, dropping some information about his technical approach to The Dark Knight Rises, particularly where his use of IMAX is concerned.

"[T]he operatic quality of 'The Dark Knight' and 'The Dark Knight Rises' felt very well suited to IMAX’s larger canvas," says Nolan. "So it’s different depending on what film you want to do... We didn’t shoot IMAX for 'Inception' because we were trying to portray the reality of dreams rather than their extraordinary nature, so we used a handheld camera and shot it in a more spontaneous way."

The full effect of the 65mm will be evident on July 20th when Nolan's final Batman film opens and shows off the international locations employed during production.

"For 'The Dark Knight Rises' we were on Wall Street with a thousand extras," he continues, "and you can see everybody’s face in the frame. In some ways, I feel it takes me back almost to the silent film era, when they had those huge cameras. Trying to do things in more of a tableau fashion, it changes the way I direct a film, it changes the way I block the camera movement because of the size of the thing. The resulting image has so much power that you don’t need to cut in the same way, you can frame the shot slightly differently, you wind up with a slightly different feel."

As big a fan as he is of the larger film format, Nolan makes no attempts to hide his distaste for 3D in cinema.

"3D is a misnomer," he laments. "Films are 3-D. The whole point of photography is that it’s three-dimensional. The thing with stereoscopic imaging is it gives each audience member an individual perspective. It’s well suited to video games and other immersive technologies, but if you're looking for an audience experience, stereoscopic is hard to embrace."

Starring Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Morgan Freeman, The Dark Knight Rises features a script by both Christopher Nolan and his brother, Jonathan Nolan.

Tom Hardy Compares The Dark Knight Rises's Bane to the Joker

by SuperHeroHype

April 16, 2012

As fans already know from the six-minute prologue to July 20th's The Dark Knight Rises, Tom Hardy's Bane is going to act as a major threat to the caped crusader. In an interview with EW, the actor discusses his take on Bane, comparing him to the clown prince of crime that Batman faced in 2008's The Dark Knight.

“The Joker didn’t care," Hardy explains. "He just wanted to see the world burn, and he was a master of chaos and destruction, unscrupulous and crazy. Bane is not that guy. There is a very meticulous and calculated way about Bane. There is a huge orchestration of organization to his ambition. He is also a physical threat to Batman. There is nothing vague about Bane. No jokes. He’s a very clean, clear villain.”

Also starring Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Morgan Freeman, The Dark Knight Rises features a script by both Christopher Nolan and his brother, Jonathan Nolan.

The Dark Knight Rises Tie-In Novel to be Released Same Day as the Movie

by SuperHeroHype

April 16, 2012

Titan Books announced today that the official tie-in novel for The Dark Knight Rises will be released on July 20th, the same date as the movie's release. Here's the announcement:

Warner Bros. Pictures' and Legendary Pictures' "The Dark Knight Rises," the much-anticipated final chapter in writer-director Christopher Nolan's film trilogy featuring the legendary DC Comics character Batman, will be adapted into an official tie-in novel written by award-winning author Greg Cox and published by Titan Books, under a licensing agreement with Warner Bros. Consumer Products.

Novelist Greg Cox is no stranger to Batman or the DC Comics Universe, having written the official novelizations for such major comic book storylines as Infinite Crisis (2006), 52 (2007), Countdown (2009), and Final Crisis (2010). He has produced numerous bestselling adaptations and original novels based on Star Trek, Underworld, Warehouse 13, and other popular properties. His original novel Terminator Salvation: Cold Warwon the 2010 Scribe Award for tie-in fiction, and CSI: Headhunter took the award in 2009.

"Batman is one of the most iconic characters of popular culture," Titan Publisher Nick Landau said. "We're tremendously excited to work with Warner Bros. on the novelization of ‘The Dark Knight Rises,' especially since it is the culmination of everything Christopher Nolan has done with his amazing trilogy. This is a part of motion picture history."

The publishing of Titan Books' The Dark Knight Rises is timed to reach consumers worldwide on the same day as the Warner Bros. Pictures release. "The Dark Knight Rises" opens in theatres on Friday, July 20, 2012.
