Believed to be the last of his planet's native species, Blok of Dryad originally encountered the Legion as an unwitting villain, but after realizing he'd been tricked into his actions he offered them his help. With his powers of super-strength, near-invulnerability, to increase his mass and to absorb and reflect energy, Blok soon became a stalwart member of the Legion.
Hyperion - Blok in the blue and yellow. And on the Solomon Grundy buck, with Kilowog's arms.
First appearance Blok was too much a mix of the Hulk and the Thing. "Yup. Here's a big stone guy. Lots of strength, little personality." BTW- if his people were all rock-like beings, doesn't it stand to reason that SOME of them may have survived when Dryad blew up and may actually be out there, floating in hibernation around the sun? That could be a whole story arc right there- Blok and the Witch searching for and gathering Dryad survivors on Sorcerer's World, with those survivors eventually taking over the imprisonment of Mordru.
PJ Blok was how I was first introduced to him and he was a little softer and just starting to get 'interesting'. Looking back, that version reminds me a lot of the rural homes in South Korea. The places looked like shit. Dirt floors, drafty as all hell, drab like you wouldn't believe- but the roofs were usually some screamingly bright and happy day-glo orange, pink or blue. Kinda "it looks boring, but if we make some part of it really REALLY bright, then we can deal with it" sorta vibe.
The blue and yellow outfit is really the way to go. By then he'd lost his nose, was really the gentle giant, and was almost dressing as if to provide some bright and happy aspect to the delicate little flower that was the White Witch (Gaming aside here- they really missed a chance here to make them a combat team by having Blok stand in front of her taking abuse while she prepped some spell to nail the opposition. There was a game (Ars Magica) that was really built around this concept- fighters acting as a shield wall to allow mages to kick ass.). Plus the b/y outfit has some practical use in providing those big padded shoulders to cushion the blows he can unwittingly deliver, as well as that belt buckle, which could contain extra flight ring metal to get his bulk off the ground.
JQ - Blok has had a surprising number of costumes and bodily forms -- 6 by my count. I guess people just feel the need to continually dress up a big rock guy to make him more interesting. Even Darkseid himself had to have a say in Blok's fashion choices by breaking off his collar! Now, while the shirtless, red and blue pants is my actual favorite, do an image search for Blok and you just won't see that costume. What you will see a lot of is the blue and yellow shoulder-padded costume. I think that really is his most popular costume, and while some may disagree I think that a Blok action figure is just a Darkseid buck away from easy completion.
Kcekada - The more I see it, the more I dislike this outfit. Why would they dress up Blok in such a cutesy outfit? Ugh. I'd much rather see the red/blue tights, but I know that isn't what most fans want to see, so moving on...
