Welcome to Hey Kids! Comics!  As always, PM your reviews to Chooch by 9pm Mountain Time every Sunday.

Punisher MAX # 16 - Big Jesus finally gets to Frank's cell, but surprise!  He wants to bust Frank out so he can go kill Kingpin.  Frank kills him anyway.  We finally find out what Frank said to his wife just before his family was killed, and...well, I wasn't impressed.  Good enough story, but the reveal was weak.   so-so

Punisher #2 - Frank tracks some poor schmuck back to a couple of different crime spots, and whacks a lot of people (including a woman).  Then he gets jumped by some fucked up version of the Vulture I've never seen before.   so-so

Daredevil #2 - Cap and DD duke it out for a few pages, then decide to continue at a later time.  DD digs deeper into the case he just got kicked off of and finds a hidden...Klaw lab, I guess.   Thumb's Up

Green Lantern Corps #63 - Lanterns try to deal with the fallout of the War of the Lanterns, and then all do the right thing when the call comes anyway.   Thumb's Down

Green Lantern Emerald Warriors #13 - Guy and Batman team-up to 'solve' a murder on the ISS.  There's not much investigative work, though.  Bats simply disappears for a few panels and comes back with the answer.  Guy does space cop stuff.  Then we make a callback joke to JLI #5.   Thumb's Down

Conan: Road of Kings #7 - Conan is caught up in a plot to overthrow the king of Aquilonia, much to his surprise.  He fights his way out and saves a child on the way by carrying her out with him, which might make his life on the road somewhat more complicated.   Thumb's Up

Walking Dead #88 - Rick maintains control for about half the issue then breaks down crying while out on a supply run.  Y'know, I kinda wish he'd just go ahead and blow into full on crazy, because that certainly seems to be what's coming.   so-so

Zatanna #16 - A fugitive from Limbo Town steals a book from Zee's library, and Zee chases him across various dimensions to get it back.  An ok ender to an undervalued series.   Thumb's Up

Batman Inc #8 - Bruce introduces Internet 3.0 to various investors, and damned if the thing hasn't been hacked already.  Various avatar versions of Batman and Batwoman work to save the investors from the beasties.  The big reveal at the end is the announced return of a villain from Batman's recent past.  so-so

Captain America & Bucky #621 - First Blood
$3/20 pages - 15 cents/page

Bucky and Cap fight the war at home leading to Bucky's first kill.  It's not what he thought it would be.  The care that goes into these last two issues is amazing.  All comics should be this good. Thumb's Up

FF #8 - Ascension
$3/20 pages - 15 cents/page

Finally, the payoff begins.  Fortunately Spidey doesn't take a back burner.  Actually, Hickman does a great job of giving everyone their moment. The return of Epting is most welcome. Thumb's Up

Mystery Men #4
$3/22 pages - 14 cents/page

As with previous issues, spectacular art from Patrick Zircher, but blunt storytelling from David Liss. so-so

Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors #13 - Space Oddity
$3/20 pages - 15 cents/page

In what feels like a thrown together done-in-one Guy Gardner and Batman team-up to check out a murder on a space station.  Tomasi does a decent job of making it entertaining, but doesn't dig beyond the surface at any point.  Frenz and Dell have done better work, so I'm thinking they were rushed on this one. so-so

Justice Society of America #54 - The Secret History of Monument Point pt.4: Crisis
$3/20 pages - 15 cents/page

When great people die of old age they inevitably lose their senses and finally shit themselves at the end.  The JSA didn't deserve that. Thumb's Down

Green Lantern: Retroactive 1990's #1 - Hothead/A Beginning
$5/48 pages - 10 cents/page

In the main story Marz reminds us of all the reasons Kyle is spectacular.  He's one of us, he has respect for the past, he's able to move forward, and he uses the ring for so much more than a boxing glove that it's a wonder creators didn't tap the potential earlier.  The back-up reinforces all of those notions while also giving Kyle and Donna Troy a much better send-off than any of the supposed final issues of the current series have given any of their characters. Thumb's Up

Justice League America: Retroactive 1990's #1 - Apokolips No!/Breakdowns: Swansong
$5/48 pages - 10 cents/page

The main story brings the bwa-ha-ha as you'd expect a visit from the Injustice League to bring, but the real story here is the back-up.  It's a reprint of the "final" issue from Giffen/DeMatteis' original run on the book.  It was a good choice as it was a microcosm of all the things that were great about the book: the comedy, the drama, friends that actually cared for each other, and even proof in Ralph and Sue Dibny that a hero could be happily married and still be interesting.  In looking back on the run it seems that everyone, including Giffen and DeMatteis forgot that it was the balance of these elements that made the book so great. Thumb's Up

Incorruptible #21
$4/22 pages - 18 cents/page

Things start going to hell for everyone when the Plutonian returns, but Max just starts building.. something. It's an effective mystery, but Waid also gives us a chance to see yet another villain follow Max's lead in her own twisted way. Thumb's Up

G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #169
$4/22 pages - 18 cents/page

More ninja mumbo jumbo as Snake Eyes discovers an offshoot of the Arashikage clan.  so-so

Snake Eyes #4
$4/22 pages - 18 cents/page

The Joes finally strike back and as expected, it's Snake Eyes and Helix that have once again struck the first blow.  It should be fun to see Dice return as well. Thumb's Up

Transformers #24 - Chaos pt. 1: Lamentations
$4/22 pages - 18 cents/page

Costa returns to kick-off the big story where the Autobots return to Cybertron and it's sadly not nearly as interesting as the last two interlude issues.  The art also suffers by being dark and painterly which makes the action of robots harder to discern.  There are also a lot of obscure Transformers that don't get namechecked, so figuring out who is talking can be difficult. so-so

Kick-Ass 2 #3
$3/24 pages - 12.5 cents/page

Kick-Ass' new team does a whole lot of good and gathers new recruits.  Unfortunately the bad guys escalate in a similar manner and the Red Mist is reborn as the Mother Fucker. Thumb's Up

Ender in Exile MMPB

Through dumb luck more than anything, I've ended up reading the Ender series in chronological order.  I'm glad I did because my OCD brain would have freaked out otherwise.  This book is a Frankenstein patchwork of stories continuing from other books in the series, but due to the relativistic time effect of space travel, multiple characters are able to get together at different ages long after the events on Earth have settled down.  Ender turns out to be a bit whiny, but fortunately his sister Val is always there to kick him in the ass when necessary.  This is a good book, if a little disjointed, but I absolutely recommend reading the Shadow series before even picking up this book. Thumb's Up
