Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #1-12
I waited until I had all of the Marvel Universe Secret Wars Comic 2-Packs to read all of this in one sitting. How does it hold up twentysome years later? Just okay it turns out. You can see how this became a template for later crossovers, but despite his time with the Legion, Shooter isn't able to give everyone in this huge cast screen time. Or character arcs. Doom comes closest, but the ramifications of losing godhood are not explored. Also, the Wasp really was quite a ditzy, spoiled ho-bag. She totally makes out with Magneto.
Prelude to Deadpool Corps #2 - The Kids are (Mostly) All Right
Ah, so Rob Liefeld only did the first issue. Taking over art chores is fellow Image-founder Whilce Portacio. Instead of inking himself he gets Jamie Mendoza and it really helps make for clean, clear linework. Portacio has been doing a lot of straight to ink work, which can convey energy, but it's not as polished. In the story we get Kid Deadpool attending Xavier's Orphanage for Troubled Boys. He spends most of his time tormenting Kid Cyclops, who's a total douche. Great stuff.
Secret Six #19 - Cats in the Cradle pt. 1: Misconceived
As others on this site have said, delightfully wicked on a consistent basis. Also, it appears that Jim Calafiore is sticking around. I couldn't be happier.
Ex Machina #48 - Pro-Life pt. 4
Harris is coming apart artistically here at the end. Some pages are great, others look like somebody took a picture under a glass smeared with K-Y Jelly. The story is a bit lacking as well considering there are only two issues left to wrap up the series.
Savage Dragon #158 - The Edge/Ethrian pt. 13
The main story is simple, but fun. The back-up is dull as dishwater.
G.I. Joe Origins #13 - You Say Jump...
Critical Mess member Scott Beatty comes aboard to tell the origin of Ripcord. Heavily influenced by the movie (groan) he's a black man that wants to fly airplanes. Not bad, but there's nothing in here to raise it above the horrible taste a Wayan's brother leaves in your mouth.
Transformers: Bumblebee #4
'Bee's interaction with the little girl is a bit too forced and the ending falls a bit flat.
Criminal: The Sinners #5
Everyone should read this book.
Ghost Riders: Heaven's on Fire TPB
A wrap-up to the "rogue angel taking over heaven" story. Aaron uses obscure players to good effect. He even gets Big Wheel in there. Big Wheel.
The Boys Vol. 6: The Self-Preservation Society TPB
The Boys take on Avengers analogues with some guest artists, but then Robertson returns for the origins of Mother's Milk, the Frenchman, and the Female. Then it really sings.
Angel: After the Fall Vol. 1-2 TPB
Writer Brian Lynch does a great job of bringing back lesser-known characters as well as making this feel like a real season of the show. The second volume is a collection of "origins" which isn't as interesting on its own.

Secret Six #19:
Gail Simone is a national treasure. The Six have to infiltrate the Cult of Blood, and then Catman is given an offer he can't refuse. not just a but
R.E.B.E.L.S. #14:
Once Again, I am taken completely by surprise by a book that was off my radar. I gushed a bit about that last month, but god DAMN does this issue deliver a killer ending to the ongoing "Starro the Conquerer" storyline that's been going on since the title launched. Holy Shit was that a great finale. It's books like this that make the glaring lack in quality in titles such as "Outsiders" all the more obvious. ARE YOU LISTENING, DAN DIDIO?
Batman and Robin #10:
Grant Morrison can be a give or take writer, I keep saying this over and over, but this book just completely delivers. Why the hell don't more editors realize that the quality of a character (well, everybody but Hal Jordan) Isn't in who's in the suit, but rather who wields the pen. There's no such thing as a bad character (again, except Hal Jordan!.....seriously folks, this never gets old for me!), Just bad writers. It really says something for a writer who can make me love a character as completely useless as Damien. Not only do I love Damian, I think he's one of the BEST Robins. Such a petulant little snot. The kid is "Jason Todd Done Right", But this ish really shows another side of him. That he truly believes the path he's on is the right one, and that he believes his mother is wrong about it all. Not only that, but we get an actual DETECTIVE story!, who would've thought a Batman book WITHOUT Bruce Wayne as Batman would be this badass? Certainly nobody who ever read Knightfall!
Batgirl #8:
Stephanie and Red Robin (Yummmm!) Team Up against a group of assassins looking for Leslie Thompkins. We get a pretty good couple of fights, as well as some of that sexual tension (Teen Heat!) that comes from old lovers. It was a real joy to see Tim and Steph fighting back-to-back against all odds. The dialogue and action flowed naturally, and It was easy to believe that these two characters really had some history together. Kinda reminded me of some of those Dick/Barbara exchanges earlier in the series. Solid book. Great writing, and good art.
Doom Patrol #8:
Danny the Street makes his triumphant return, and things just get a whole lot weirder for the DP. It's about time. Once again, Post-Blackest Night Fatigue is abating, Hopefully this title can start to breathe again, as It was far too new for us to really have to endure such a lengthy crossover. Here's hoping things start developing for this book again. Giffen can be a solid writer, let's hope he's got a plan, and not just a whole heap of fanservice. This issue was good, with promises of things to come. Solid
