The Quick Fix 1/27/10
Want to have your voice heard?  PM Chooch or email chooch@criticalmess.net with your reviews by 9 PM MST any Sunday!

Dark Reign: Hawkeye #5

Several months late with a sudden co-writer and a new artist smacks of "editorial didn't like the original ending."  So instead, we get a blah non-ending.

Secret Warriors #12

A downtime/exposition issue.  Hickman has great ideas, but sometimes has trouble stringing them together into a story.

Captain America: Reborn #6

Late and doesn't offer anything that wasn't covered elsewhere.

Thor #606 - Latverian Prometheus pt. 3

Gillen nobly wraps up the JMS run to make way for Siege. I'd love to see what he could do with his own ideas.

New Avengers #61

A Siege tie-in that has nothing to do with Siege.  A prelude really that's largely action-oriented.

Avengers: The Initiative #32 - Seize the Day

A focus on Taskmaster, which was intriguing, but you can tell it's in a delaying pattern during Siege.

Guardians of the Galaxy #22 - Happy Birthday

A not-unexpected twist at the end, but great, great lead-up.

Fantastic Four #575 - Prime Elements pt. 1: The Abandoned City of the High Evolutionary

Hickman has great ideas, but sometimes has trouble stringing them together into a story. He does, however, take criticism head-on in the letters page in a great way.

Punisher #13

Monster mash.

Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam! #12 - Mr. Mind Over Matter

Not enough to hold my interest as an adult. Dropped.

The Atom and Hawkman #46 - Bye Bye Birdie!

Meaningless tie-in.

Blackest Night: JSA #2 - Troubled Souls

Meaningless tie-in.

Green Lantern #50 - Parallax Rebirth

Dead Aqua-baby, because it had to happen.

Justice League: Cry for Justice #6 - The Game

That painted art this series was built around?  Gone.  That team that was promised to form at the beginning?  Never happened.  Those text pieces?  Rambling.

Justice Society of America #35 - The Boxing Match pt. 2

This reads like a role-playing module a teenager would come up with.

Wildcats #19 - Red Blade pt. 1: Red Dawn

Fun to see what those left behind are up to, but the amped up tension between really turned into a break.  Weird.

Kick-Ass #8

A nice wrap.

The Sword #21

I'm amazed that the Luna Bros. can pack in character development into every issue.

The Unknown: The Devil Made Flesh #4

I expected more science from Waid and find myself a bit disappointed.

Irredeemable #10

We find out the Plutonian didn't just snap, but that he was always creepy.  I think that really takes away from the premise.

Die Hard: Year One #5

Chaykin continues to deliver on this unexpected gem.

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? #8

Continued awesome.

Transformers: Last Stand of the Wreckers #1

If you dig 99% robot action, this is the book for you.

G.I. Joe Cobra II #1

Can they capture magic in the bottle again?  So far, so good.

Superman/Batman: The Search for Kryptonite TPB

A whole lot of Loeb-esque unnecessary "big" ideas with a little heart and story finally at the end.

Superman: Last Son TPB

Must every Superman story wreck the planet?

Talk about it here!
