CriticalMess.Net Mattel Q&A for September 15th, 2009

Doc Terrific asks:

"My concern is the once-a-month planned release for the Dark Knight Movie Masters figures.  Why make separate monthly purchases if you can make one large purchase at the end of the release period (Feb 2010?) and save on shipping? Shipping costs don't double per figure on Matty.com."

Keep in mind that all figures will remain online until they sell out and you very well could pick up multiple figure if any are left for sale after their month is up.

EvilGleek asks:

"Mattel,
Will ALL figures from Matty be packaged in protective sleeves & shipped better?
The SDCC Hal 3 pack & Anti-Monitor were shipped loose & damaged while the He-Ro & WT set were protected. I also returned a damaged Zodac only to receive a 2nd damaged Zodac so someone clearly isn't examing these. I'm not paying such high prices for damaged pieces. It's ridiculous. Dealing with Customer Service with every order is getting old & tiresome."

Moving forward all Mattycollector.com items will get a white shipper box.

Mister Sinister asks:

"What are your plans for the recently shown Superman movie 12" figures?  How will they be sold?  Are the prototypes still going to be tweaked?  I'm mainly concerned by the red on Zod's uniform, Superman's cape being too short, and his boots being much too high.  Also, can we expect to see any other DC movie/tv icons in 12"?"

The red you are seeing on Zod is actually very accurate. We took a careful look at the original costumes when creating these figures. Many times the way they look on screen is slightly different compared to how the costumes look in person. Movie lighting can often change how fabric or colors look on the big screen. The final version will be as close as we can get to the original costumes for both figures. Other figures will depend on how well received these first two figures are.

Kirby Is King asks:

"DCUC wave 8 Dr. Fate has been very popular with fans of both the classic and contemporary JSA, thanks to the way you made the variants.  Going forward, when you produce other JSA members where a classic/modern variant is possible without much additional tooling (Hourman, for example), do you anticipate doing the same type of thing?"

We don’t have a set rule, but in general we will try to get to key alternate versions of characters with the variants. This also doesn’t rule out going back and doing another version of a character down the road too.

Titansfan asks:

"When Zatanna is made, is there a chance she could get a 50/50 split like the parademons, Mantis, and Steppenwolf?  She's had two very distinct looks.  The Perez blue and white design is crucial for a Sattelite JLA display, but the fishnets and tails look is also popular.  The majority of fans would buy both I think."

That is yet to be decided but we will pass along this suggestion.
